I'm clearly a bit bored...

Richard Burke is my perfect man and he and Monica made a much better couple than she and Chandler.

I really couldn't stand Susan. Or Emily.

Ross Geller is the funniest friend and mellowed a lot as he aged.

The Rachel and Joey hook up was totally wrong on all levels. She just wouldn't have gone there.

Kathy cheating on Chandler was pretty unbelievable (in real life both actors protested this, obviously to no avail).

Phoebe was a bit of a bitch who often threw her friends under the bus.

I preferred David the science guy to Mike, he was very funny.

It would have been nice for Joey to have a happier ending, a dream woman or part in a hit show.

Rachel's wardrobe is absolutely incredible.

Monica's Mum is really awful to her.

I hate to say it but Joey is a bit of a loser. Though he was the only one who never got drunk throughout the entire show.

Janice was actually really nice.

I watched the Carol and Susan wedding I realise it happened at least ten years before same sex marriage s were legal in new York ,but was it a thing that same sex couples werre having their relationships blessed ?

That was in the 'Could Have Been' episode as well though wasn't it?

The episode of things that didn't happen but could have (if Ross and Carol had stayed together, if Rachel had married Barry, if Monica was still 'fat' (that always annoys me, she was a normal size).

In that episode, Ross and Carol already had Ben and he was an older child by the time Susan came along. Ross was doing his KarateA and took advice about spicing things up, Carol rejected every suggestion until the threesome one.

But in the 'real' episodes, I'm sure that almost as soon as Ross and Carol break up, she's telling him she's pregnant. And it really doesn't seem planned, it seems to come out of the blue very quickly.

It would be really grim if Carol and Susan had been together for months and decided to use Ross as a sperm donor though. And I can't see Carol being that callous or Susan wanting to use Carol's ex and risking him being tied to their lives. I think she would want a real, consenting, anonymous donor or a trusted friend who wouldn't want to take on a parenting role and be a father.

When you look at all the fat jokes they made at her expense (I was the pile of coats / they told us that uniform was for the football mascot / she's too fat to stand up when she fell on a bean bag / I lived with Monica I had to eat fast or I didn't eat / You did it Judy, she's finally full) and then you see 'fat' Monica the jokes they make absolutely do not fit the size they made her.

I think Courtney Cox is something like a UK 6 so possibly a UK 12 or 14 in the 'fat' suit. A normal size.

Definitely not size 12 - I'm size 12 and taller than her but definitely nowhere near how they portrayed her, she would definitely have been a 16+ - which at her height is more obvious!

Emily was just grating as a character - not sure why as I liked her in Cold Feet so it isn't Helen Baxendale per se. But her entire demeanour, line delivery and plot lines just wind me up!

Totally agree. I loved her in Cold Feet and sobbed when she died. But hated Emily in friends. Just awful.

I liked Susan she was funny. I thought Ross was annoying although I liked him and Rachel as a couple. Agree re Monica and Richard and pheobe and Mike. I liked Cathy and Chandler together. My favourites were always the guests- the guy who played chandlers creepy room mate, Ben stiller, Elle McPherson, Bruce Willis, Rachel's awful date and Gunther was fab.

Okay, maybe she was bigger than a 12 or 14, although on those photo's given above I think the one with the brown jumper she doesn't look over a 14 to me, but I would still call her a normal size, overweight or not.

She absolutely wasn't a size where she would need to have special clothes made for her, or be incapable of standing up from a bean bag, or be mistaken for a pile of coats and so on.

Oh it is a running joke, come on! They refer to it all the time.

Off the top of my head:

Monica wants Phoebe’s grandmother’s cookie recipe to be the mum who bakes the world’s best chocolate chip cookies. Chandler’s response? “Our kids are going to be fat, aren’t they?”

When Rachel orders a special birthday cake for Emma, Monica fantasizes about the bakery and how she used to hike there as a child.

Monica was Brad Pitt’s “thin friend” at school, the joke being that they were both fat, but him more so.

Going through some of Monica’s things when she’s packing, someone pulls out her swimsuit and jokes they thought it was what they use to cover Connecticut when it rains.

The jokes about her breaking out of fat camp but getting caught helping a sick squirrel… Ross’s retort is that she was trying to eat it.

Something about her eating the macaroni necklace she made in school…

“I grew up with Monica, if you didn’t eat fast, you didn’t eat.” (Ross)

Monica was in the school band and her costume was a project for the home ec class.

Binge eating the mint thins sold by the Brownie girl (the one Ross injures), it’s a trigger food from her childhood. She sold the most boxes of any girl in her Brownie group. Why? Because her dad had to buy all the boxes she ate.

Her favourite slot machine? A vending machine. “Don’t feel bad for me, I won every time”.

Im sure there are dozens more. It comes up all the time!

To be fair the only clothes she mentions having specially made was her band uniform - possibly they didn’t make a uniform intended for kids to wear at a school activity in such a large size. Although it would have made more sense just to buy similar clothes rather than make it in class!

And she would have stood out more being that overweight as a teenager compared to other teens who looked slimmer.

I bet her mum probably made her think she was super ultra obese as well. She even managed to criticise her looks when she was the gorgeous Courtney Cox in the first series so imagine what she had to say when she was overweight!

Just watched the episode of Jack Geller's 50th birthday party and there is a comment about Richard already being 50 so he was not 46/47. Not that the 3 years make that much difference about the ick factor (if you do find it icky )

I agree, along with the jokes around being gay, and some of the stuff about Chandler’s dad, I don’t think you’d get that in a show made today.

Obviously the fat bashing was awful, but she looks a good size 16-18 in those photos. Maybe it is 'normal' now but normal is pretty overweight.

She is size 14 to16 American size I’d say.

She looks about 16+ stone in that photo.
