I'm clearly a bit bored...

Richard Burke is my perfect man and he and Monica made a much better couple than she and Chandler.

I really couldn't stand Susan. Or Emily.

Ross Geller is the funniest friend and mellowed a lot as he aged.

The Rachel and Joey hook up was totally wrong on all levels. She just wouldn't have gone there.

Kathy cheating on Chandler was pretty unbelievable (in real life both actors protested this, obviously to no avail).

Phoebe was a bit of a bitch who often threw her friends under the bus.

I preferred David the science guy to Mike, he was very funny.

It would have been nice for Joey to have a happier ending, a dream woman or part in a hit show.

Rachel's wardrobe is absolutely incredible.

Monica's Mum is really awful to her.

I hate to say it but Joey is a bit of a loser. Though he was the only one who never got drunk throughout the entire show.

Janice was actually really nice.

I'm sure I have more :-)

@Metallicalover Nope. Not the only one. For even more reasons than you've said.

I dislike her even more when people sing her praises. Grin

Ohhgreat · 31/10/2021 20:51

@SilenceOfThePrams you are spot on with that, especially the bit about Erica!!

3luckystars · 31/10/2021 20:53

Rachel was definitely very childish, I think Monica made her a better person.

He was so incredibly self centred, and treated everyone badly, but particularly Rachael. I had absolutely no idea what she saw in him.

I think he gets a bad time on here. Yeah in the beginning he was controlling and needy but I think he left all that behind and developed well. He bought Phoebe her first bike, he bought that dog ornament for Joey when he went bankrupt. He always tried to encourage his awful parents to be nicer to Monica, he cancelled an event he'd been looking forward to in order to help Rachel get dressed with a broken rib... and let's not forget how gracious he was to his bitch ex wife and her mistress, even walking her down the Isle. I think he was kind and sensitive.

@AndTheWinnerIsLucky haha I'm so glad!
I really disliked the character and the more I watch it the more I realise I do!

Just like sex in the city! I dislike the character Carrie!

AndTheWinnerIsLucky · 31/10/2021 20:59

I think the same too about Ross @DivorceAdvicePlease123 I hate how people hate him. In my opinion, he was the best of them despite his flaws.

CalamariGames · 31/10/2021 21:00

Another great cameo was Kathleen Turner as Chandler's dad. I thought the scene where they went to the drag show and Chandler invited him to the wedding was quite touching.

3luckystars · 31/10/2021 21:00

In Rosses defence, think most people are a bit of an idiot at that stage of their lives. I know I was definitely a bit spoilt and selfish.

Haha. Same and I can't rewatch it because of her (Carrie). Unlike Rachel, Carrie is all over SATC and there's no escaping her. She's worse than Rachel.

3luckystars · 31/10/2021 21:02

Carrie in Sex and the City is the most awful character ever, I love the show but I would have nothing to do with someone like her in real life.

Ross was treated like shit by so many people in the beginning, it's not surprising he was a bit paranoid when he got with Rachel.

Carol dumped him for another woman and then moved her in and raised her baby with this stranger and expected Ross to just go along with it.
Susan then wanted to name the baby after her and referred to Ross as "the sperm donor".
Rachel didn't treat him well either and basically forced him to break up with Julie for her, and then threw herself into her job and barely paid him the slightest bit of attention.
As soon as she asked for a break, she called Mark over even though she knew it would upset Ross.

I think he gets a really hard time tbh. He was treated awfully but had some really, really sweet moments too and he obviously really cared about his friends and his sister too.

I've never watched a single episode of SATC. Hopefully Netflix will pick it up at some point!

OMG! Thank you. This is all I keep saying about Ross too @icedcoffees

Metallicalover · 31/10/2021 21:06

I love Ross!

AndTheWinnerIsLucky · 31/10/2021 21:07

I'll happily be in an 'I love Ross' club.Grin

icedcoffees · 31/10/2021 21:10

To be fair @AndTheWinnerIsLucky the first time round I hate Ross but as I've gotten older, I've really sympathised with him and I love his character. David plays it SO SO well.

IhateBoswell · 31/10/2021 21:12

I hated Ross when I was 14, now at 41 he's probably my favourite.

DivorceAdvicePlease123 · 31/10/2021 21:18

I also thought it was unrealistic that Ross and Rachel moved on from each other so quickly. They're together for a year in a really loving relationship and he cheats and they split up out of the blue. Within (a couple of months?) Phoebe sets him up with her mate and Rachel ends up in a beach house listening to him shagging her all night. In real life you'd be absolutely traumatised by that.

I agree David does the character much justice. I've been particularly impressed by his timing, delivery and comedic talent, the more I've watched it.

It’s not aged well.
DukeofEarlGrey · 31/10/2021 21:28

@x2boys

The time line of Richard being good friends with Judy and Jack ,but only being 21 years older than Monica didn't really work ,The Geller's were a fairly successful, middle class couple and I would have thought ,they would have been mid to late 50,s ,so quite a bit older than Richard ,plus Richard had a daughter the same age as Monica and she owed in his pool ,he must have always had a wealthy lifestyle from a young age.
Nah, having a pool in the US isn't that unusual.
SoniaFouler · 31/10/2021 21:35

@FETOCT2021

When phoebe tested the same day as getting her embryos transferred 😂
This episode annoys me but not for that reason! It’s because when Rachel says Chandler is a transponster and Monica screams that that’s not even a word, Ross let’s the clock tick down to zero whereas for every other question an incorrect answer was righted and then moved onto the next question!
AndTheWinnerIsLucky · 31/10/2021 21:37

Oh oh, he's a Trans...a TRANSPONSTER!

THAT'S NOT EVEN A WOOOORD!
🤣🤣

SoniaFouler · 31/10/2021 21:40

Btw if you go on YouTube and type in “Lisa Kudrow emmytvlegends” there are a few videos of her being interviewed and talking about the creation of the show, what happened when the cast first met, how the creators of the show tried to separate Phoebe from the rest of the cast Etc, some really good stuff. Here’s one of them:

ShowOfHands · 31/10/2021 22:01

Ross is terrible, controlling and borderline abusive. He isn't kind at all imho.

I liked the way they started the Rachel/Joey thing. When she was pregnant, they started developing his character. He was sensitive and thoughtful for a while, they made great friends and he got to know her in an entirely different way. Once Rachel liked him, he was a complete caricature. I always wondered if they thought about it but then Joey got a spin off so they backtracked.
