I'm clearly a bit bored...

Richard Burke is my perfect man and he and Monica made a much better couple than she and Chandler.

I really couldn't stand Susan. Or Emily.

Ross Geller is the funniest friend and mellowed a lot as he aged.

The Rachel and Joey hook up was totally wrong on all levels. She just wouldn't have gone there.

Kathy cheating on Chandler was pretty unbelievable (in real life both actors protested this, obviously to no avail).

Phoebe was a bit of a bitch who often threw her friends under the bus.

I preferred David the science guy to Mike, he was very funny.

It would have been nice for Joey to have a happier ending, a dream woman or part in a hit show.

Rachel's wardrobe is absolutely incredible.

Monica's Mum is really awful to her.

I hate to say it but Joey is a bit of a loser. Though he was the only one who never got drunk throughout the entire show.

Janice was actually really nice.

I'm sure I have more :-)

Oh I didn't like that student that Ross dated either - Elizabeth? - although casting Bruce Willis as her dad, who then dated Rachel, was a stroke of utter genius.

DivorceAdvicePlease123 · 31/10/2021 18:20

Also I found it odd that other than Ross, someone as beautiful as Rachel had no other serious love. He had Emily and Charlie, Phoebe had Mike and David, Monica had Richard and Chandler etc. But she only ever had very short term flings. Tag, Josh etc.

@RachelHasThoseInBurgundy

Joey and Rachel was the worst decision ever.
It really was. He was way too immature for her. She treats him like a little brother for ten years then decides randomly she fancies him? Nah. Also Joey would never have done that to Ross. He was a freeloader but he loved his friends.

So pleased to see other posters like Janice too. I rewatched the whole series recently and thought, apart from that laugh, how lovely she was as a character. And totally did not deserve the treatment she got from the "Friends".

And I really like Phoebe. She had an awful childhood and has done her best to make a life for herself and deserved to be happy.

And Richard ...❤ Sad Monica didn't end up with him. He was lovely.

RandomDent · 31/10/2021 18:26

Joey is my favourite.

itssquidstella · 31/10/2021 18:27

Monica was 27 in series one (when she sleeps with Ethan the high school student she tells him she's "26...and 13 months!), so must be 27 in series two when she's dating Richard, making him at least 48 - but if he's a contemporary of her parents then surely he's in his 50s because they must have been older than 21 when they had Monica, who's two years younger than Ross.

elenacampana · 31/10/2021 18:27

I really like Monica and Chandler together - I’ve always seen them as the true love story of Friends, over Ross and Rachel!

Hard to have a Friends thread atm without mention of Gunther… he had hair brighter than the sun ☀️

Claymorekick · 31/10/2021 18:29

@CinderFuckingRe11a

Richard was 46
See, this freaks me out that he was younger in Friends than I am now Halloween Confused even now, when I watch it, he seems really old and they appear to make him seem older than 46!

But totally agree with the OP - he was hot! And so much better with Monica than Chandler - their chemistry was insane!

RachelHasThoseInBurgundy · 31/10/2021 18:34

I saw a video on YouTube the other day of Tom Sellecks first TV as for a soap (safeguard?) it looks like the 70’s and even in the ad he looks like he’s mid 40’s! Grin

Claymorekick · 31/10/2021 18:35

Emily was just grating as a character - not sure why as I liked her in Cold Feet so it isn't Helen Baxendale per se. But her entire demeanour, line delivery and plot lines just wind me up!

GoldenElephant · 31/10/2021 18:35

Phoebe would never have been friends with the other five.

Yes, i don't think he aged for about 4 decades! He looks the same in 3 Men and a Baby as he did in Friends (i.e. hot Halloween Grin).

However, he does now look old in Blue Bloods - DH watches it occasionally which I hate as I prefer to remember him in his younger years (as I also do with Donbie Wahlberg Halloween Grin)

When they're going to the Gellers' anniversary party and Monica is stressing about her parents finding out about Richard, Ross makes a joke like "remember when you were 10 and he was 30 and they said 'gee I hope those two get together"?"

So I thought he'd be late 40s at the most.

Emily’s OTT Britishness always grates on me whenever I watch it!
CinderFuckingRe11a · 31/10/2021 18:41

In the interests of research I have just watched the one with the ick factor and Monica says she is 25 and 13 months and then later she confirms to Phoebe that she is 26.

So I will accept that Richard was 47. But still 46 or 47 🤷‍♀️

FETOCT2021 · 31/10/2021 18:41

Janice was really nice and pretty.

Mike was annoying. David the science guy was the best!

Why did Ross always shout?

I actually think Rachel and Joey were great for each other.

The relationship between Ross and his student was minging.

I would have liked to see some closure with phoebe and her sister

RachelHasThoseInBurgundy · 31/10/2021 18:43

Google says Richard was born in 1948 and Monica was born in 1969.

RachelHasThoseInBurgundy · 31/10/2021 18:44

I think Phoebe provided the closure when she slept with Ursula’s ex fiancé the creepy Sean Penn.

FETOCT2021 · 31/10/2021 18:46

Oh yes that was a grim episode. All the sweating

ChequerBoard · 31/10/2021 18:46

@LeaveYourHatOn

Oh and YES to Janice - she was wonderful! Annoying laugh, yes, but actually very kind and thoughtful and funny.

Yay!! I also
Liked Janice as a character. Let's face it she was much nicer and less two faced than most of the 'friends'.

I hated that Chandler thought he was too good for her. Janice and a few boisterous kids would have been the making of Chandler Bing.

icedcoffees · 31/10/2021 18:47

Monica and Richard had a really creepy dynamic and I don't think he was good for her at all. I don't get why people think it's romantic - dating the child of your best friend who you knew as a toddler is weird at the best of times Confused

Phoebe was rude and offensive to most of the group (except Joey) and really didn't it in. I never liked her character beyond the first couple of seasons.

Ross is hilarious and David Schwimmer had some of the best lines in the entire series imo. He's a great actor and portrays Ross so well.

I wish we saw more of Janice, Mr. Heckles and Danny the Yeti!

RachelHasThoseInBurgundy · 31/10/2021 18:47

Side note: I really liked Mr Heckles’ purple sofa.
