When did Geri halliwell become so posh?

Just followed her on Instagram, she has completely transformed.. Stunning country home, extremely posh accent... She's turned into a stepford wife... She looks incredible!

Oh, please. At risk of becoming Henry Higgins about it, the 'London' accent is appreciably different between Bayswater and Bermondsey. Just as a Glaswegian accent is completely different from, say, a Highlands one.

I didn't say she sounded 'posh'. She was unmistakably well-spoken, though. It's loopy to suggest otherwise.

I like Geri, her early solo stuff (although probably not great musically) brings me back to being a teenager...Mi Chico Latino being a particular classic!

I've just had a look. She looks very different but then she is 20 + years older than when she was in the Spice Girls. She looks very thin now and a bit like Sarah Ferguson. I think she looks good though.

She is, or at least was for a good long while, the British female singer with the most No.1 hits. Which is pretty crazy considering her songs aren't exactly the most memorable.

Well I guess it depends on your definition of 'well-spoken'. But she wouldn't have met mine.

Yes of course there are variations in the London accent, but it's still recognisable as distinct from other cities and regions.

Gerry has not changed, like others have said she is playing a role.
It’s always been a side of Gerry that I found really sad, she just morphs into whatever she thinks she should be. Not who she really is, I don’t think Gerry knows who she is.

She's not posh, never has been.

I've got an aunt who's similar - from a South London background and very 'rough' when younger. Emulated and imitated a 'posh' accent to fit in and especially when she moved to posh areas/into posh houses.

But she lets the facade slip sometimes and you hear the Sarf London twang/phrases.

I still think the way she behaved when the first Mrs Horner was pregnant is despicable. I know Christian himself is equally to blame. But how many woman would succumb to the attentions of a man, knowing his wife was pregnant? Most women would have told him to fuck off.

A London accent doesn't equate with well spoken! She just sounds like a Londoner, not an eastender type, just normal.
But London accents are very different depending to which part of London you grew up in and which circles you move in.

Geri Halliwell is the first Mrs. Horner. I’ve no skin in the game, but that is factually accurate.

I think ‘posh’ spice got the nickname because she dressed (slightly!) more demurely than the others (not exactly hard😆)…but the Beckhams have never been posh - rich yes, posh no. Geri has married a genuine posh bloke and has moulded to her different surroundings….nothing wrong in that, we all do it to an extent. The white clothes thing is bizarre though!

Yes as a previous poster mentioned, all the nicknames were given by Smash Hits magazine very early on, and it was just done in a jokey way, I think Posh got her name more from the way she dressed, little black dress etc, they each had their own 'image'. I clearly remember reading that very issue of the magazine at the time.
As for Geri, I don't know much about her these days, but the Union Jack dress was nearly 25 years ago, it would be more strange if she was still dressing the same, we all change!

Isn't the white clothes thing to make her seem 'innocent' etc re the pinching of the DH from the pregnant wife?

They've all really come a long way, I mean the Spice Girls. Not sure what became of Sporty tho. That said there's something a bit off about her marriage to that F1 guy, not sure what it is but just a feeling.

I don’t know much about her but ‘destroyed another woman’s family’ seems a tad dramatic and presumptuous.

Relationships fail for all sorts of reasons. I’d hope the ex has moved on.

Why was Posh Spice called 'Posh'? Was it an in joke or something? Because she has always sounded very un-posh to me in a completely normal way. Was it supposed to indicate 'Elegant' or 'Aloof' or 'Shy' or something?
Her Dad used to drive her to school in a Rolls Royce so her school mates called her posh and the name stuck.

Looked her up because of this thread and noticed her mum's name. Known of her for this long and only just realised her mum is Spanish and her dad is part Finnish and English.

Christian wasn’t married to his ex partner but they had been together for more than a decade. During that time they had fertility problems but were eventually able to get pregnant. It is around this time - if the reports I read at the time are true - that Gerri set out on a deliberate and targeted campaign to get close to Christian.
The complete loser that Christian is - meant it worked snd he abandoned his pregnant partner and there much wanted baby to set up home with Gerry …
Who almost immediately got pregnant herself.
