Things you enjoy which are supposed to be terrible

I'm inspired by a thread about ""Nice" Things That Aren't Actually Nice" over on the AIBU board.

I'd love to know about things you (secretly or not-so-secretly) love which you're "supposed" to find dull, inconvenient, or just plain crap.

For me: the cheapest tinned vegetables, replacement bus services (nicer view sometimes!), Travelodges.

I love doing market research, when the person with a clipboard and a lanyard is hanging round our market square I smile and look approachable I just love doing their surveys especially if you have to watch an advert!
I also like sitting in the doctor or dentist waiting room (as long as not in pain!) It's nice to have a free pass to sit and do nothing!

I liked Blackpool. Liked not loved but still. This seems to baffle people Grin

MarriedNotAtFirstSight · 08/10/2021 16:24

Spa days

Centre parcs

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 08/10/2021 16:33

Same here with Blackpool.

Also (sort of related), guest houses and old hotels that are long past their glory years, with dated decor, tired horrendous-patterned, mismatching carpets, quirky, forgotten/random features that made sense at one point and old-fashioned layouts - as long as they're clean and the beds are comfy. Premier Inns and Travelodges are fine and functional, but they don't excite me, as they're all exactly the same, completely predictable, no historic quirks and just really, really boring.

IhateBoswell · 08/10/2021 16:34

Haha I like Blackpool 😬

Surgery. A whole 24 hours away from the family. Breakfast in bed followed by a week in bed sleeping with no house work. It was worth the scar! Also loved the opiates I was put on post surgery. Fentanyl is fabulous!

hugoagogo · 08/10/2021 16:45

Non sunny weather. I would enjoy it even more if everyone else stopped moaning.

Graphista · 08/10/2021 16:45

Another vote for tinned potatoes!

Instant mash - much prefer it to fresh mash

I actually quite enjoy spending ages faffing with my budget spreadsheet

Being single! - Women are SO socialised that they need to be in a relationship to have validation. Utter nonsense! I love being single and just suiting myself and not having to compromise!

Friends tv show - loved it the first time around, indoctrinated ddGrin still love it now! I've watched the reunion alone about half a dozen times!

There are a number of other tv shows I also totally love that tend to be looked down on by others.

Cheap biscuits - I find them more tasty and satisfying than luxury ones, but I'm having to limit consumption as on a weight loss journey at the moment

Tom cruise - total crush since top gun, I know in real life he's a weirdo/bonkers but I still love watching his films and seeing him on chat shows etc

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 08/10/2021 16:45

Yes to Fray Bentos pies - you're supposed to feel ashamed and such a slattern for even considering such base student fare.... but they're really nice - especially with some of that lovely 'dreadful' economy range tinned veg that was mentioned upthread!

PermanentTemporary · 08/10/2021 16:45

Casual sex with complete strangers - the less I know about them the better.

Graphista · 08/10/2021 16:48

@hugoagogo I'm a very pale redhead who burns and gets prickly heat. I like a sprint or autumn sunny BUT not hot day but hot weather I can really live without!

vampirethriller · 08/10/2021 16:48
