Things you enjoy which are supposed to be terrible

I'm inspired by a thread about ""Nice" Things That Aren't Actually Nice" over on the AIBU board.

I'd love to know about things you (secretly or not-so-secretly) love which you're "supposed" to find dull, inconvenient, or just plain crap.

For me: the cheapest tinned vegetables, replacement bus services (nicer view sometimes!), Travelodges.

@VividImaginationAgain

Lockdown - no pressure to socialise, no parents evenings, everyone cosy and safe at home, no extracurricular activities - I could go on (but I do feel guilty to feel that way when it has been so hard for many people)
This! I felt just the same.

Also ironing, travelling by bus, and being in a tent when it’s raining.

HotSauceCommittee · 09/10/2021 21:34

I'm going back to the 90's here, with "The Hitman and Her."
I went to all the indie, gothy, punky places as a student and then we'd come back home and put this on as it was on until late and we could have a living room disco continuation of our night out. It was good.

ballerina1971 · 09/10/2021 21:48

@MsTSwift, me too! A bit of mindless TV that I don't have to follow a plot or use my brain for to understand, just got to watch them argue or gossip. Very relaxing 😁

Trenisenne · 09/10/2021 21:52

Definitely agree with November. And I would also add January.

Rain - favourite weather

Weeding.

Musermum · 09/10/2021 21:54

@Brigittebidet

Jilly Cooper novels Blush

The Goes Wrong Show - this should not be funny, and people I have recommended it to have told me it's not funny, but I find it hilarious; which makes no sense as I hate slapstick. It is one of the only things on television that makes me properly laugh.

Instant coffee

Currently watching this on iplayer. It's hilarious and I don't know why. Also love Bullseye... The clothes, hairstyles and memories of Sunday teatime eating chicken toasties

A rainy afternoon in the week after Christmas, sitting at my kitchen table chopping up excess veg (my DH and DS both work for the same catering supply company , who give them each a Christmas box full of all the fruit and veg they could possibly need , plus a pudding or another treat , so we have quite a bit left over ) and putting it in the freezer whilst watching Miss Marple/Midsomer/ Foyle.

I don’t know how I stand the pace.

spinachandchickpea · 09/10/2021 22:04

Supermarkets abroad.

Beesmakehoney · 09/10/2021 22:09

Yes January! The shortest day is over. The expense of Christmas is over. The fake fun of New Year is over. You can just sort your life out quietly over the rainy and dark days. I put it out on MN every year that a birthday as an adult anything after the 8th is brilliant.. Everyone still has going out clothes and a babysitter on speed dial . Restaurants are doing specials. Hotels and flights are their absolute cheapest. Everything is in a January sale.
pteradactyl · 09/10/2021 22:37

Pot/super noodles
Teen mom and its eleventy billion spin offs
Team meetings...everyone moans about them but I quite like my team and enjoy the chat Blush

pteradactyl · 09/10/2021 22:39

My birthday is in January and I hate it! I feel like everyone is still skint from Christmas. Nobody wants to go out cos its cold and miserable and no longer festive. The days are still generally rainy and cold and its dark and gloomy by 4ish still. Urgh

MissMoan · 09/10/2021 22:46

I’m sorry. Are you you youngish?
People definitely want to go out in January because they got used to it.
in December. There’s always someone doing Dry January willing to do lifts which doesn’t happen in say, June.
Yes people are broke but that’s why everywhere has a deal.
I quite like getting everyone’s unwanted Christmas presents too. I get twice the amount of gifts other people get!

carsonsmummy14 · 09/10/2021 22:57

Cleaning the skirting boards and dado rail.

God, I need a life Blush

MissMoan · 09/10/2021 22:58

Also ... working over the Christmas holidays while everyone else takes a break.
It's the only time my inbox seems to take a break too, so I can get on with things without disruption.
It also provides me with a legitimate reason to avoid stressful family situations.

HelloDaisy · 09/10/2021 23:22

DuckonaBike I love being in my tent anytime but especially when it’s raining!

GiftedFish · 10/10/2021 00:42

Tap Water.
I can't stand bottled water, I'm sure I can taste the plastic in it. The water from my bathroom sink tap seems much colder and refreshing from my kitchen tap! Odd I know.

Joystir59 · 10/10/2021 03:06

Tinned hot dog sausages heated through and eaten sandwiched in thickly buttered cheap white bread, that's also been slathered in mustard

Stirling2701 · 10/10/2021 07:34

I agree about nights in - I love them!

Lockdown - I love having an excuse to stay at home
Sending emails
Lumpy custard and rice pudding
