Things you enjoy which are supposed to be terrible

I'm inspired by a thread about ""Nice" Things That Aren't Actually Nice" over on the AIBU board.

I'd love to know about things you (secretly or not-so-secretly) love which you're "supposed" to find dull, inconvenient, or just plain crap.

For me: the cheapest tinned vegetables, replacement bus services (nicer view sometimes!), Travelodges.

@FizzyPink

I wouldn’t say I enjoyed it but I had a root canal recently and everyone told me lots of horror stories. I don’t know if the way they do them has moved on but it was completely painless. I got to lay down and have no one speak to me for 90 minutes Grin
The way they do them has DEFINITELY moved on, for sure. I too heard horror stories and talked to my dentist about it, and he said there's no reason for pain during any dental appointment in this century. He is amazing.

They aren't actually a brand as such TDogsInHats, I mean the cheap ones that come in the plastic tubes at funfairs, or in the little see through plastic bags. It's definitely that cheap chocolate.

Camblewick · 09/10/2021 12:40

Love a fray bentos pie.
Vesta curry
Supernoodles
Hot dogs

Anything that I don't like my kids eating, basically. Grin

Hen2018 · 09/10/2021 13:13

Rodding the drains to my septic tank when they’re blocked

All food. Good, bad, cheap.

Terrible police action crime interceptors road wars type programmes

Exercise is the only thing that keeps me sane (walking, long distances, very fast).

Thanks for the clarification 😊

Ah yes I do enjoy a replacement bus journey. Much more interesting than a train.
Also driving on motorways. I don't actually understand people that would prefer to drive on A roads etc - motorways are WAY easier. I can't stand roundabouts.

Susurrar · 09/10/2021 16:19

Reality TV (the trashier, the better)
Liver, kale, spinach
Laundry

Egghead68 · 09/10/2021 16:32

Yes exercise and reality tv for me.

Definitely can’t agree on replacement bus journeys.

HideousKinky · 09/10/2021 17:31

Service stations
They fascinate me

DagenhamRoundhouse · 09/10/2021 17:41

Motorway service areas. Always held a strange fascination for me. Ditto petrol stations.

DagenhamRoundhouse · 09/10/2021 17:42

You beat me to it!!

@Graphista

Be prepared to gain at least 2 stone grin

Oh, don't you worry about that - the Jockey Club officially threw me out a very long time ago Grin

Supermarket sandwiches. The cheaper & more basic the better. Asda’s tuna mayo on white is a particular favourite. Only £1.10 per pack, too.

Pfffffff!!!!!!!! 'only' £1.10 - you can get the exact same ones for just 73p! Unlike all the other supermarkets, Asda do meal deals whereby you buy any three meal deal items and get the cheapest one free - so three packs of the £1.10 sandwiches for £2.20 and none of your needing to buy a drink or crisps at all!!

Lightisnotwhite · 09/10/2021 17:59

@LowbrowVictoriana

Oh I love long(ish) drives by myself on the motorway. A few hours of sitting in peace listening to music or podcasts, buying expensive sandwiches and snacks from the services. No annoying children or husband.
Me too.

I had to do a 7 hot drive back home when I forgot all the Christmas presents one year. It was fabulous. Peace from the non stop to do lists. And a night at home on my own, tree lights on, crap Christmas TV and a Baileys.
And then back the next day when everyone else had unpacked and sorted themselves out. It was amazing.

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 09/10/2021 18:07

Instant coffee
Skimmed milk
Jars of pasta sauce
Supermarket meal deals
Ds would say pot noodles!

LikeAbatOutOfHell · 09/10/2021 18:08

Blackpool
Rhyl
Mcdonalds
Chain pubs
Eastenders
I'm a celebrity get me out of here
Primark

Bumpsadaisie · 09/10/2021 18:09

Being in hospital. Never been in for anything life threatening granted. But I just loved lying there doing what I was told and being looked after.

Overtired201984 · 09/10/2021 18:09

Rain and staying home.

Not having to talk for houuurs

Introvert much Confused

swelchphr · 09/10/2021 18:11

Pineapple on pizza

Twinsmummy1812 · 09/10/2021 18:18

Migraines. As terrible as they are it means an unapologetic tagging in of my family to look after themselves and a sleep in the daytime.
Squeezing blackheads and spots, bigger the better.
Watching darts on the television
Weirdly I love aeroplane food too
Cotton buds in my ears (especially if I’ve sucked them first)
Absolutely the best is a general anaesthetic, I love that drunk feeling followed by oblivion. Awesome.

ShinySquirrel · 09/10/2021 18:25

Jelly in trifles. Give me my nan's trifle any day over your fancy varieties.

General anaesthetic. Absolutely love the feeling of drifting under.

Cutting my toenails. Blush It's so satisfying when the big nail is thick.

Overtired201984 · 09/10/2021 18:31

@Beseen22

I was taken to theatre after a particularly bad tear following childbirth and I secretly loved it. Everyone was lovely, they gave me a spinal block, put warming blankets on my legs and I fell asleep. Last time I was relaxed in 5 years
@Beseen22

This wins , the barmyist like I’ve ever heard , I’d rather be busy and none relaxed for 24 hours a day than have a bad tear down there Confused
