If you were locked in a shop overnight ( by yourself and in no danger )
Which type of shop would you choose ?
Mine would 100% be a bookshop . Even better if it had somewhere to make a coffee / tea.
My idea of heaven.

Does Fortnums have a bed?

I think I do need one as nice as Liberty is

RaskolnikovsGarret · 28/09/2021 20:19

Piccadilly Waterstones. Floors and floors of books, a cafe and comfortable sofas.

itsgettingwierd · 28/09/2021 20:21

Great thread idea!

I think I'd have to chose IKEA!

Bed for a kip, lots of things I can browse and discover I need which I never knew I needed, great food if I'm hungry. Fun toys.

And if I'm really board I can assemble a flat pack item or 2!!

MakkaPakkas · 28/09/2021 20:22

Those of you saying IKEA... scpfoundations.fandom.com/wiki/SCP-3008

This thread makes me think of the film/book The Mist - and I'm still slightly traumatised by the ending!

TartanJumper · 28/09/2021 20:31

Probably a department store. I'd try on all the wedding dresses and have a nice sleep in one of their beds, as long as it's a proper bed and not a cardboard display one.
Bonus points if they have a food court.

Mol1628 · 28/09/2021 20:35

A decent board game shop. One with a coffee shop in it as well would be a bonus.

HarleyBarnes · 28/09/2021 20:36

Lego store for me...

BalloonSlayer · 28/09/2021 20:53

I used to fantasise about being locked in the Natural History museum overnight. Then someone nicked my fantasy and made a film about it!

BalloonSlayer · 28/09/2021 20:56

We have an old copy of the Dandy annual and one of the comic strip is about a boy who lives in a department store that has been bombed. It's all intact under the rubble - he knows a secret way in - and he has access to all the stock whenever he wants anything.

IncessantNameChanger · 28/09/2021 20:59

Department store. Ideally the now gone Debenhams.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 28/09/2021 21:00

Read 'the greatest story in the world' where the family managed to stay in a shop because they were homeless and it all sounded so lovely!

Definitely a department store. With the biggest comfiest bed..not lots of wardrobes cause that be creepy.

debbieupper9 · 28/09/2021 21:00

I’m with you OP, definitely bookshop.

Fedup2908 · 28/09/2021 21:03

One hundred percent I would choose a off licence....and drink it dry Grin

buddhasbelly · 28/09/2021 21:05

@Dollywilde I was reading to see if anyone had mentioned this film!

If anyone has had the dream of staying in a shop over night watch "The Greatest Store In the World" this Christmas!

Dollywilde · 28/09/2021 21:10

@buddhasbelly I’m so glad someone else remembers it! I was 10 when it was on TV that Christmas, my mum taped it and we used to watch it every Xmas after that. Peter Capaldi as the doorman, Brian Blessed as the owner, Ricky Tomlinson as Santa and am appearance by S Club 7 - what’s not to love!?

CovidCorvid · 28/09/2021 21:11

@greensnail

100 per cent IKEA. I'd love to sleep in one of the little mocked up bedrooms.
There is a great horror story book about people staying overnight in an IKEA type store and the monsters come out at night!

MsAwesomeDragon · 28/09/2021 21:13

I need it to be a department store so it's got toilets. That's my first thought. Then a bed section or at least a camping section so I can bed myself down. And a cafe/food zone/sweet shop so I can help myself to a lovely midnight feast. Then books, but in just one night I could probably only read one.

SylvanasWindrunner · 28/09/2021 21:15

Oh I wouldn't read any books. I would wander around and look at them, hold them, sniff them, flick through them Grin I might read one, but I just want to be surrounded by them and explore them all without other people around rushing me or other places to be.

SilveredPinkPetal · 28/09/2021 21:54

Ikea, they have beds and blankets and food and wine. Hope they don’t lock their toilets at night
Goodness I’d love to visit now 🌲🌲🌲🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🌲🌲🌲🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🌲

BathshebaKnickerStickers · 28/09/2021 22:01

A cosy bed and mattress shop who also sell wine.

Shuffalo · 28/09/2021 22:11

When I was a child DM would take me to these ‘account holder evenings’ at M&S which were like glorified cheese and wine dos but I loved it, it felt so grown up, and weird being in the shop after hours. I used to dream about being locked in M&S afterwards and staying overnight.

buddhasbelly · 28/09/2021 22:13

@DollywildeI forgot about a club 7! I've put it on the Christmas watch list. I must've been about ages with you when I saw it too!
