Are there any songs/pieces of music that give you the creeps?

The War of The Worlds soundtrack scares the hell out of me. The Red Weed from that was used during my music exam in High School and I came close to having a panic attack as it had such an effect upon me.

Likewise I had no idea that Forever Autumn was used in WOTW but the first time I heard it, it really spooked me.

Another song that makes me feel strange is Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm by Crash Test Dummies. I don't know why but there's something sinister about it.

Does anyone else experience this effect with certain songs?

Mad World from the end of Donnie Darko.
It unsettles me.

tillytoodles1 · 25/09/2021 19:20

Send in the Clowns, it makes me feel sick.

GoodbyeToCare · 25/09/2021 19:24

Running up That Hill by Kate Bush gives me the horrors. I

CreepyPaper · 25/09/2021 19:25

LizBennet I can see why it would make you feel strange.

tillytoodles1 That's an interesting one. I hope that you don't have to hear it too often. It must be horrible.

iamme21 · 25/09/2021 19:27

I’m the same with all of War of the Worlds soundtrack- spooked me when I was 8 and still can’t listen over 40 years later.
Also hate Tubular Bells

LizBennet · 25/09/2021 19:28

God yes Tubular Bells!

OrchidFlakes · 25/09/2021 19:31

The music used for the tv show silent witness. Can’t listen to it at all!

CreepyPaper · 25/09/2021 19:32

Hazard by Richard Marx is another though I guess it's supposed to be slightly creepy/unsettling.

itsharderthanithought89 · 25/09/2021 19:38

Oh I hate that Insidious song!!!! BearConfused

CreepyPaper · 25/09/2021 19:46

I feel a little better now that I know that I'm not alone in this. I can understand why so many of these songs make people feel odd.

I keep remembering more but Toy Soldiers by Martika also makes me feel strange as does Tom's Diner by Suzanne Vega.

For ages Paint it Black by the Rolling Stones did because it was the end credits of the Devil’s advocate, which I watched when I was about 10 and was severely unsettled by it.

That Chris de Burgh spaceman Christmas song. Absolutely hate it, it sounds so bleak.

That tear you apart song in one episode of American horror story hotel

eandz13 · 25/09/2021 19:54

Agreed with Tiny Tim!

Mariell · 25/09/2021 19:55

I hate anything by David Byrne and Talking heads.

There is one where he is talking not singing and it’s like nails on a blackboard.

Mariell · 25/09/2021 19:56

I’m fine now but as a small child, Mouldy old dough by Lieutenant Pigeon used to scare me!

keepmoving · 25/09/2021 19:57

HATE tubular bells - even DP turns it off if we hear the first few notes - not idea why but it really upsets me!

Mariell · 25/09/2021 19:57

Fire starter twisted fire starter- just awful shouting and screeching. I can’t stand awful noise like that.

BearFacedCheekGrylls · 25/09/2021 19:58

Jaws

Inextremis · 25/09/2021 19:59

Another Police one - Every Breath You Take. Stalkerish.

dancingthroughthedark · 25/09/2021 20:00

Loved the Tears for Fears version of Mad World but for some reason the Gary Jules version just freaks me out though I cannot explain why.
