Are there any songs/pieces of music that give you the creeps?

The War of The Worlds soundtrack scares the hell out of me. The Red Weed from that was used during my music exam in High School and I came close to having a panic attack as it had such an effect upon me.

Likewise I had no idea that Forever Autumn was used in WOTW but the first time I heard it, it really spooked me.

Another song that makes me feel strange is Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm by Crash Test Dummies. I don't know why but there's something sinister about it.

Does anyone else experience this effect with certain songs?

@longtompot Aye, totally robbed. A Forest is a work of genius (I love songs in A minor).

darklindor · 25/09/2021 23:41

Another vote for Bobby Goldsboro's Summer. Yuck.

Ooooh good thread.

Owner of a lonely heart - remember vividly as a kid there is a bit in the video when a man had maggots on his face. Horrible.

This is embarrassing but again as a kid I think about 13 years old I read Stephen Kings "It" and remember hearing Sam Fox Nothings Gonna Stop me Now on the radio all the time so whenever I hear it I think of Pennywise Grin

@XenoBitch

Laura Palmer's Theme from Twin Peaks.... No, no, no, no... just no. Gives me the creeps!
Oh god yes definitely.! It's actually a gorgeous song in places then goes back to being v creepy. I bloody loved Twin Peaks. Bonkers but brilliant.

Where the wild roses grow. Nick Cave and Kylie Minogue

teaandpastries · 26/09/2021 00:02

Seasons in the sun. Terry Jacks version.

Unbearably sad

crapatthis1 · 26/09/2021 00:05

Cry little sister from The Lost Boys - I actually really like the song but it is kinda creepy

What's that song from Nightmare on Elm Street? 'One two Freddy's coming for you, three, four, knocking at your door'

Define agree with Laura Palmer song from twin peaks

Also :

Some old folk song called Lord Lankin by Steeleye Span
Streets of London but I can't really tell you why
Don't cry by guns n roses although I love it makes me feel a bit creeped out
Jaws theme song!
Stay with me -Shakespeare's sister
I'm not in love - 10cc (the whispering gets me)

An Irish folk song , also sung by The Dubliners, called Weile Waile that we sang as kids - check out these lyrics for creepy!

And there was an old woman and she lived in the woods
A weila weila waila
There was an old woman and she lived in the woods
Down by the River Saile
She had a baby three months old
A weila weila waila
She had a baby three months old
Down by the River Saile
She had a penknife long and sharp
A weila weila waila
She had a penknife long and sharp
Down by the River Saile
She stuck the penknife in the baby's heart
A weila weila waila
She stuck the penknife in the baby's heart
Down by the River Saile
Three loud knocks came knocking on the door
A weila weila waila
Three loud knocks came knocking on the door
Down by the River Saile
There was two policeman and a man
A weila weila waila
There was two policeman and a man
Down by the River Saile
They took her away and they put her in the jail
A weila weila waila
They took her away and they put her in the jail
Down by the River Saile
They put a rope around her neck
A weila weila waila
They put a rope around her neck
Down by the River Saile
They pulled the rope she got hung
A weila weila waila
They pulled the rope she got hung
Down by the River Saile
Now that was the end of the woman in the woods
A weila weila waila
And that was the end of the baby too
Down by the River Saile

All of Twin Peak music. I was obsessed with Twin Peaks.

Streets of London and Puff the Magic Dragon make me cry

crapatthis1 · 26/09/2021 00:08

Also Hurt by Johnny Cash. I love the song but I find the video haunting

hullaballoo19 · 26/09/2021 00:10

Watched an episode of criminal minds a couple of weeks ago. It's one about an arsonist and at the very beginning of the episode the music started straight away and was a scene where the arsonist has locked all the doors, started setting the house on fire and watched the family trying to escape. It was Boudicca (sp?) by enya - it was so perfect for the scene, it evoked the exact feeling it should have but yeah, really creepy and haunting.

@CaMePlaitPas

And another one i saw on Top of the Pops when i was a kid; "spaceman, I always wanted to go into space man" and there was an alien playing the keyboard and it completely psyched me out. God knows who it's by, don't want to search it.
One of my favourite songs in the the early 2000’s - I loved it so much I bought the cd single! The chorus (spaceman) was so cool but the verses were a boring drudge
SkiingIsHeaven · 26/09/2021 00:12

The woman having an orgasm in Je T"Aime. I don't want to hear that. Awkward.

Silverswirl · 26/09/2021 00:15

I absolutely love the war of the worlds music- so so brilliant. Listen to it with my eyes closed to imagine the scenes from the boom. Love the book and seen all the films too, bit of a fan!

Silverswirl · 26/09/2021 00:20

@OuiOuiBonjour

The Carol of the Bells reminds me of the emotion behind the famous Edvard Munch painting "The Scream".

It's not festive or jolly.

It's frantic and panicky. It makes me think of people running out into the streets in mass panic, having lost their minds.

Carol of the bells is beautiful! Gives me goosebumps in a good way!

Was earlier than that, I was still at school.

Seven Tears Are Rolling Down A River

And

Silence Is Golden

My mum used to listen to them. A lot at home and when I was very very little the songs terrified me and they just sounded so scary and creepy and threatening!

Also the Chirp Chirpy Cheep Chgep song with the lines (iirc) "Last night I heard my mama singing a song... Woke up tjis morning and my mama was gone"

I mean, what?? That also terrified me as I was convinced my mum would run off!

I must have been a nervous child 😄

Silverswirl · 26/09/2021 00:36
And I love Pentatonix but this is the stuff of nightmares for me. Creepy, robotic, weird lyrics.
I think this is a lovely melody also! 🤣 Lyrics are peculiar but I just think they are interesting and open to interpretation! I must be weird I guess!

Yes actually you are right - I was still living at home thinking about it so must have been around 94

The original was released in 1996 but then it was remixed by a Dance act in 2001 and it was a pretty popular track in the clubs. I can remember hearing it and thinking "oh no! Not this again!"

Does anyone remember Babybird "You're Gorgeous"? So pervy.

Dadvdtret · 26/09/2021 00:38

Not creepy as such, but "Creep" by Radiohead makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Such raw and honest lyrics.

🤣🤣 I used to sing that song to my kids when they were smaller. Used to freak them right out. Also the bit where it goes ‘where’s your sister gone far far away’ they used to hate it even though I was singing in a jolly voice
Silverswirl · 26/09/2021 00:40

@OuiOuiBonjour oh gosh no your gorgeous was one I hated. Wasn’t he convicted for a sex crime or something? I remember something sinister there

LizBennet · 26/09/2021 00:42

Ah didn’t know Spaceman was remixed.

Yes, You’re Gorgeous is awful.

grapewine · 26/09/2021 00:44

@Inextremis

Another Police one - Every Breath You Take. Stalkerish.
I was going to say this. Have no idea why some people think it's a love song. Definite stalker vibe.
