Are there any songs/pieces of music that give you the creeps?

The War of The Worlds soundtrack scares the hell out of me. The Red Weed from that was used during my music exam in High School and I came close to having a panic attack as it had such an effect upon me.

Likewise I had no idea that Forever Autumn was used in WOTW but the first time I heard it, it really spooked me.

Another song that makes me feel strange is Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm by Crash Test Dummies. I don't know why but there's something sinister about it.

Does anyone else experience this effect with certain songs?

A lot of Nick Cave's material is a bit creepy but not in a bad way - for example, the Weeping Song. Ditto Leonard Cohen. See, especially, You Want it Darker. Spine-tingling.

An Art of Noise track on one of their lps where it's the sound of someone walking down a corridor. I used to listen to it on headphones in my bedroom which was at the end of a corridor and every time I'd have to take them off as I thought someone was really outside my door.

Moby. I had an ex who insisted on having the cd as his alarm clock. We didn't stay together

Bobby Goldsboro - summer

@RugCarpet22

Nick Cave and Kylie Minogue Where the wild roses grow. A love song about murdering a beautiful woman! Hate it!!!
This,

Where the Wild Roses Grow, totally freaks me out and I can still visualise the video to it.

I think the video would never have been released now.

@ilovecardigans

Lullaby, by The Cure is a genuinely creepy song and the video completely freaked me out when I first watched it. I won't post a link, as I don't want to give anyone (particularly arachnophobes) nightmares...

The introduction to Tubular Bells was used in the film, The Exorcist, so perhaps that's why some people find it unsettling.

Fantastic song. Quite claustrophobic if I remember correctly. This was the era of The Cure that I loved, before Friday I'm in Love came out (hated that song). Reminds me a bit of Queens of the Stoneage - Mosquito Song.

Laura Palmer's Theme from Twin Peaks.... No, no, no, no... just no. Gives me the creeps!

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 25/09/2021 22:34

I quite like the Tales of the Unexpected music!

Grieg's 'Hall of the Mountain King' is a bit creepy, as is the funeral March of the Marionette, which is the one Alfred Hitchcock used as his theme tune.

artquejtion · 25/09/2021 22:34

Mull of Kintyre, gives me the creeps, reminds me of being in a bad situation but I can't remember what the situation wasConfused

Totally agree about Everytime by Britney Spears. Very eerie feel to it. The music video doesn't help either.

Two songs that I actually had to google the names of but they really make me come over a bit funny. First one is the Adagio for strings that is often played at funerals- obviously meant to be sombre but whole other level. Other one is completely different, the weird sound in ‘Cola’ by camelphat- I think it reminds me of the lost boys film.

ilovecardigans · 25/09/2021 22:57

@longtompot I agree!

I was quite surprised to find that Lullaby was actually The Cure's biggest UK hit. My favourite is Lovesong which is so beautiful, but a bit melancholy. And also their biggest US hit.

Avocadoseed · 25/09/2021 23:06

The original Amityville horror Soundtrack omg

Avocadoseed · 25/09/2021 23:07

@NaturalBlondeYeahRight that’s so funny, I love partying to both them tunes!

MsWalterMitty · 25/09/2021 23:08

Yes... recently listened to the actual words of The Police... Don’t stand so close to me

Was it really? I'd have thought Close to Me or Boys Don't Cry would have been. Just looked and you are so right! They was robbed with a lot of their other singles imo.

Inertia Creeps by Massive Attack. Great song and I love all their work but this track makes me feel so panicky.
