Are there any songs/pieces of music that give you the creeps?

The War of The Worlds soundtrack scares the hell out of me. The Red Weed from that was used during my music exam in High School and I came close to having a panic attack as it had such an effect upon me.

Likewise I had no idea that Forever Autumn was used in WOTW but the first time I heard it, it really spooked me.

Another song that makes me feel strange is Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm by Crash Test Dummies. I don't know why but there's something sinister about it.

Does anyone else experience this effect with certain songs?

Wichita Linesman. The opening lyrics and the melody ...ugh. It makes my skin crawl, I cannot listen to it without feeling incredibly creeped out. No idea why..!
Also the music for Steve Wright's love songs - it's so dirgy and depressing

TheYearOfSmallThings · 25/09/2021 20:41

I love Wichita Linesman!

Ennio Morricone - Strana Bambina

Beautiful but creepy.

(I'd love to watch this series again.)

Tonight is the night I fell asleep at the wheel by the Barenaked Ladies.
It’s supposed to be creepy and by God it is.

VienneseWhirligig · 25/09/2021 20:44

Spanish Train by Chris de Burgh. When I was a kid my dad explained the lyrics to me, and it scared the shit out of me. I can't listen to it even 30 odd years later.

That song by The Beautiful South with the girls names in it.

I bloody hate that band.

Pinkmagic1 · 25/09/2021 20:48

Windmills of your mind - horrible!

Totallydefeated · 25/09/2021 20:49

The green Green Grass of Home, by Tom Jones. Can never listen to it again for fear of having an urge to slit my wrists by the end of it.

LOVE Wichita Linesman tho!

Rhannion · 25/09/2021 20:59

Can’t stay I love To See You Cry by Enrique what’s his name. Horrible song. Love Wichita Lineman, fantastic unfinished song, there was meant to be another verse but Jimmy Webb didn’t get the chance to finish it because Glen Campbell recorded it so quickly as he loved it. There is a book about the song.

@NonsensicalHair I was just scrolling through the thread to see if anyone had suggested the Tales of Unexpected tune. My parents used to watch it on a Sunday night and I could always hear the scary music from my bedroom!
Also "Sweet Dreams Are Made of This" by the Eurythmics gives me the creeps.

ilovecardigans · 25/09/2021 21:04

Lullaby, by The Cure is a genuinely creepy song and the video completely freaked me out when I first watched it. I won't post a link, as I don't want to give anyone (particularly arachnophobes) nightmares...

The introduction to Tubular Bells was used in the film, The Exorcist, so perhaps that's why some people find it unsettling.

OhWhyNot · 25/09/2021 21:05

Catarina by John Williams

Not so much creepy but a sense of impending doom that won’t shift when the music is over. It’s the music from The Deer Hunter. It’s beautiful but I can’t listen to it

Tubular Bells is awful and creepy

CreepyPaper · 25/09/2021 21:06

And another one i saw on Top of the Pops when i was a kid; "spaceman, I always wanted to go into space man" and there was an alien playing the keyboard and it completely psyched me out. God knows who it's by, don't want to search it.

I just returned to add that song. It's Spaceman by Babylon Zoo.

That song from the film 'Sleeping with the Enemy'.

whatsthestory123 · 25/09/2021 21:18

love glen campbell

most of kate bush but still love her music, the mock hanging of The Handmaids Tail utterly moving

NotMyDayJob · 25/09/2021 21:20

I don't know why but the One and Only by Chesney Hawkes has always made me feel unaccountably deeply uncomfortable. I was quite young when it came out, and I couldn't listen to it at all and everyone kept raving about it. Thank god he was a one hit wonder

Bellybootcut · 25/09/2021 21:23

Little Drummer Boy....Moors MurdersSad

swampytiggaa · 25/09/2021 21:24

Summer of 69 by Brian Adams makes me cry because it was played at my brothers funeral. And Together in Electric Dreams upsets me because it reminds me of when 4 of my school friends died in an accident. That song was everywhere during a very bleak time.

PeachesPumpkin · 25/09/2021 21:24

Every breath you take.

ilovecardigans · 25/09/2021 21:25

Oooh, also Ode to Billy Joe by Bobby Gentry.

ilovecardigans · 25/09/2021 21:27

Apologies - that should have been Bobbie Gentry.

CurryLover55 · 25/09/2021 21:32

Not a particular song but there’s a particular sound that really creeps me out. It was used in the tv programme Requiem & in a Miley Cyrus song fairly recently.

Minskie24 · 25/09/2021 21:34

I'm Not In Love by 10CC - makes me feel physically ill.

GlmPmum · 25/09/2021 21:35

Unchained Melody... everytime I hear it, I get this awful feeling wash over me. I think maybe it was playing in the background when I was murdered in a past life haha

deste · 25/09/2021 21:36

Not creepy but the theme tune from The Snowman made me feel ill, really ill. I was pregnant at the time but I had to switch it off the minute it came on. It took about 5 years to get over it and could listen to it again.
