Are there any songs/pieces of music that give you the creeps?

The War of The Worlds soundtrack scares the hell out of me. The Red Weed from that was used during my music exam in High School and I came close to having a panic attack as it had such an effect upon me.

Likewise I had no idea that Forever Autumn was used in WOTW but the first time I heard it, it really spooked me.

Another song that makes me feel strange is Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm by Crash Test Dummies. I don't know why but there's something sinister about it.

Does anyone else experience this effect with certain songs?

That Pink Elephants on Parade song from Dumbo feels like quite a haunting song to me, even though I quite like it!

Everytime by Britney Spears

I think it's to do with the fact it was on the radio all the time the week we had to put my childhood cat to sleep - like on the way to the vet, back from the vets, on the journey to the pet crem, on the way back with her ashes and then my Auntie died of cancer the same week and it was always on every hour. It was a 5 hour journey to her funeral and same back. I kept changing the radio channel and it would come back on. So I have these very sad fearful memories attached to this song which make me panicky if I every hear it.

There's something about the tinkly music box that sounds like it's underwater that makes me feel off kilter and Britney sounds so sad. The bit when it goes "What have I done?", I remember breaking down crying as we'd all wondered if we'd done the right thing putting the cat to sleep. She was only 5 but had kidney and heart failure but the vet said we had the option of driving her 2.5 hours to a specialist who might be able to save her life although she could have died a horrible death on the way. And I was still a kid so it was all alot to process. Then the death of an aunt, especially in the circumstances, was just so awful and the first time I was conscious of our mortality and loss.

Years later, in my 20s in came on in a friend's car on a girly road trip and I started feeling horrible, really panicky and anxious. I told them about my auntie's death and how I couldn't listen to that song but they all laughed at me, turned it up louder and sang it AT me even though I had tears rolling down my face. I didn't stay friends with them much longer!

When you used to get a knock off dvd and it always had that song at the start " it's time to burn".

Bolognesedoc · 25/09/2021 20:12

Money, money, money - I actually get flasbacks to some sort of concrete 1970s shopping centre and feel terrified. No idea why.

Honestly it was a horrible few minutes and journey home but ultimately it gave me a wake up call and I realised these people were not friends, they were nasty. It did me a favour in the long run.

Radiohead's Street Spirit. It's an amazing song, but it's just so bleak.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 25/09/2021 20:20

Me and Little Andy by Dolly Parton. It's the way she sings the little girl's voice.

tillytoodles1 · 25/09/2021 20:22

Also Road Rage by Catatonia. We got back in the car after my mum had died and it was on. Over 20 yrs later it still makes me cry.

ChirpyChirp · 25/09/2021 20:23

My Boy Lollipop.

Horrible song!!

GizmosBandana · 25/09/2021 20:26

The theme song to the X Files still gives me the creeps 😩

That is SUCH a creepy song!

The Bridge by Dolly Parton, where an unwed young pregnant woman throws her self off a bridge to kill her and the unborn child is horrible too.

MyrealnameisBernard · 25/09/2021 20:27

@CreepyPaper oh my goodness yes. I feel the same about toy soldiers and Tom's diner

NonsensicalHair · 25/09/2021 20:27

The theme tune for Tales of the Unexpected. Even without the dancing woman...

RugCarpet22 · 25/09/2021 20:29

Nick Cave and Kylie Minogue Where the wild roses grow. A love song about murdering a beautiful woman! Hate it!!!

The Lyrics -

The bridge, so high
The bridge, so tall
Here is where it started
On the bridge
The moon is big and yellow
And the stars are all a' glow
From the bridge, I see reflections
In the waters far below
You kissed me for the first time here
An' held me awfully tight
And the bridge became our favorite place
We came here often in the night
And one night while standing on the bridge
Desire swept through us both
Passion took us by the hand
And showed us where to go
From the bridge we saw a meadow
So we ran together there
Where we found love together
Our emotions filled the air
The bridge, so wide
The bridge, so long
Where once we stood together
Tonight I stand alone
Tonight, while standing on the bridge
My heart is beating wild
To think that you could leave me here
With our unborn child
My feet are moving slowly
Closer to the edge
Here is where it started
And here is where I'll end it...

It ends really unresolved and it makes your stomach flip over when you realise what she's just done Sad.

After it being used in Zodiac Hurdy Gurdy Man scares the bejesus out of me.

Sparklingbrook · 25/09/2021 20:33

Controversial but Bohemian Rhapsody. As a child I remember it being on the radio and it being slightly terrifying, I can't listen to it now.

CaMePlaitPas · 25/09/2021 20:34

There's a song that goes "young girl get out of my mind, my love for you is way out of line... you're much too young girl" and it always gives me the creeps because I think it's inappropriate.

prettycolours · 25/09/2021 20:35

O Superman by Laurie Anderson. My parents love the song so used to play it occasionally when I was a kid and it upset me so much. I still hate it.

CaMePlaitPas · 25/09/2021 20:36

And another one i saw on Top of the Pops when i was a kid; "spaceman, I always wanted to go into space man" and there was an alien playing the keyboard and it completely psyched me out. God knows who it's by, don't want to search it.

Duckypoohs · 25/09/2021 20:38

The one black mirror always uses

CaMePlaitPas · 25/09/2021 20:38

One last one before I am accused of spamming the thread, Daddy please don't cry by Elvis. It doesn't give me the creeps but makes me very sad. I remember listening to it as a child and getting very upset

megletthesecond · 25/09/2021 20:39
