Are there any songs/pieces of music that give you the creeps?

The War of The Worlds soundtrack scares the hell out of me. The Red Weed from that was used during my music exam in High School and I came close to having a panic attack as it had such an effect upon me.

Likewise I had no idea that Forever Autumn was used in WOTW but the first time I heard it, it really spooked me.

Another song that makes me feel strange is Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm by Crash Test Dummies. I don't know why but there's something sinister about it.

Does anyone else experience this effect with certain songs?

@woodhill

Hello, this is Joanie from Paul Evans - 1979 is creepy too and very dated
Blimey,blast from the past,I remember that!!
woodhill · 27/09/2021 17:12

It was creepy though as the poor woman had died and he was listening to an answering phone.😀

There were a lot of weird records then, remember driver 67😂

the80sweregreat · 27/09/2021 17:13

Angie baby : that is a scary number.

LittleMissPeggySue · 27/09/2021 17:34

@woodhill that's the one

@CaMePlaitPas

There's a song that goes "young girl get out of my mind, my love for you is way out of line... you're much too young girl" and it always gives me the creeps because I think it's inappropriate.
I agree- especially the line 'Better run girl, You're much too young girl'. Very predatory.

See also 'Happy Birthday Sweet 16'. I know a few parents who have played this to their DDs on the 16th birthday or had it playing at 16th birthday parties. But the lyrics are really creepy eg' Tonight's the night I've waited for/Because you're not a baby anymore' and 'Since you've grown up, your future is sewn up/From now on you're gonna be mine'

Ok, am going to trump all other creepy songs/ music with the mother of all creepy which is ‘The Wall’ by Pink Floyd.

Revered by some to be musical genius and in many ways it is but it is THE creepiest scary album I’ve ever heard and the music video is the stuff of nightmares. It’s so damn psychological, gets under your skin. One mans descent into madness, it’s like your living the torment with him and it’s terrifying. It literally made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck when I heard it as an adolescent had to sleep with the light afterwards ( my dad was a big Pink Floyd fan and had all their cd’s)

woodhill · 27/09/2021 18:26

Yes, brick in the wall video

Also see Emily Play is a bit creepy

Jellyfishnchips · 27/09/2021 18:36

Yeah and not just another brick in the wall song, the others are so freaky. It’s dark poetry, such talented musicians but lamenting and deeply unsettling

“ Daddy's flown across the ocean
Leaving just a memory…”

Momma loves her baby
And daddy loves you too.
And the sea may look warm to you babe
And the sky may look blue
But ooooh Baby
Ooooh baby blue
Oooooh babe.

If you should go skating
On the thin ice of modern life
Dragging behind you the silent reproach
Of a million tear-stained eyes
Don't be surprised when a crack in the ice
Appears under your feet.
You slip out of your depth and out of your mind
With your fear flowing out behind you
As you claw the thin ice.

Strangely mine is Fat boy Slim Right Here Right Now. The opening music that runs through it gives me the chills

BeaucoupFish · 27/09/2021 18:39

Again, one of my favourites 🤣
SecretWitch · 27/09/2021 18:53

I had hellish nightmares the two times I tried using “Tubular Bells” as my Halloween ringtone.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 27/09/2021 20:24

@XenoBitch honestly just makes me feel sick and full of dread

LassFromHaweswater · 27/09/2021 20:46

The Threnody to The Victims of Hiroshima by Penderecki. Nobody expects a tribute to Hiroshima victims to be cheerful, but I had expected it to be sad, kind of like Barber's Adagio, or Elgar's Nimrod.

Instead it is like a horror film track only 100x more terrifying. Worst thing is, first time I listened to it was late at night alone in my flat. But I still can't bear to listen to it anywhere or anytime or with anyone. It's horrible.

@Gherkingreen

Wichita Linesman. The opening lyrics and the melody ...ugh. It makes my skin crawl, I cannot listen to it without feeling incredibly creeped out. No idea why..! Also the music for Steve Wright's love songs - it's so dirgy and depressing
Me too for Wichita Linesman! Was that song ever used as the background for a murder scene/horror situation? Because if I was ever scoring a film about a serial killer that's the song Id use. Superficially upbeat but URGHH.

Yes, The Wall gets under your skin. I find Comfortably Numb does that to me too.
the80sweregreat · 27/09/2021 21:23

I liked 'the Wall ' soundtrack . The film is even more disturbing though.

33goingon64 · 27/09/2021 21:40

Listening to 90s radio last weekend - I Wanna Sex You Up came on. Jesus Christ, that song is basically predatory.

It does me too. Makes me feel nauseous and panicky when I hear it.

Am kind of on the fence about Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen because the lyrics in one of the verses suggests that he was a big brother figure to the girl when they were children suggesting probably not a huge age gap. Having said that, if she's just 16 and he is 19 or 20 I guess that's a big age gap for a 16 year old. I wouldn't see it as predatory though

MimsyBorogroves · 27/09/2021 21:56

Yes to Tubular bloody Bells.

And anything with Celestine monks doing the chanty thing.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 27/09/2021 22:30

I love Tubular Bells, grew up listening to that.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 27/09/2021 23:06

"If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life. Never make a pretty women your wife so from my personal point of view get an ugly girl to marry you"

Not creepy as such infact it's probably one of the most up beat tunes out there but the lyrics are awful.

Haunted dancehall is so chilling. I only discovered it after reading it's what all the radio stations will play when the queen dies.
