The sh*ttiest thing that someone has said to you?

What's the rudest/sh*ttiest thing that someone has said to/asked you?

Years ago, I was a bridesmaid for a (now ex) friend. I was blonde at the time and she asked me to dye my hair brown as she preferred it darker. Hmm
I did not dye my hair brown.

OP posts:
Houserenoqueen · 22/08/2021 02:05

Dd1 was born with a serious (ultimately fatal) very rare condition. PiL visited us whilst she was in nicu. Fil told me DH and I are obviously genetically incompatible (because we created a sick baby).

Nearly 4 years on and I will never forgive him for his stupid, insensitive comment.

Heathcliff27 · 22/08/2021 02:07

That she tried to kill herself because I'm a shit daughter - my mum

Bargebill19 · 22/08/2021 02:12

Suffering miscarriage number five, and having to have surgery the same afternoon, I had gone home to pack an overnight bag and arrange dog sitting. My mother said the miscarriages were all my own fault as I wasn’t married. She wasn’t religious at all.
If my dad hadn’t stepped in, I think I would have killed her.
I was 28.

Toddlerteaplease · 22/08/2021 02:13

I used to see a psychiatrist for self harm. She compared me to Beverly Allit, as I was a self harmed and a children's nurse. I was so shocked by that comment, I didn't know how to react. I really wish I'd put in a formal complaint. But didn't think it would be believed. As a doctor I mentioned it too, questioned wether it was what she'd actually said. I think she might have been involved in the Allit enquiry at the time. Which would explain her attitude to me. Horrible woman.

honeygriff · 22/08/2021 02:19

My ex when he said he would regret every day for the rest of his life that I was the mother of his children. A little over dramatic as he can't be bothered with his dc at all anymore.

OnSilverStars · 22/08/2021 02:21

When I was 9 months pregnant with my second my FiL told me, while looking at me in disgust, that if I saw a picture of myself right now I'd be mortified

MsIreneWinters · 22/08/2021 02:23

You'd be OK if you put a bag on your head.

Said to me when I was young and just starting to gain confidence in my appearance after years of teasing at school. All this time later, I still feel that everyone who meets me is thinking how ugly I am.

ClosedAuraOpenMind · 22/08/2021 02:25

my mother told me my father would kill himself and it would be my fault
not a great thing to have yelled at you when you're a teen

FortunesFave · 22/08/2021 02:37

My niece said "You still look pregnant!" three days after I'd had an emergency c section. She was about 20 at the time so old enough to know better...I was so swollen due to the operation that I did have a big abdomen still but I was so hurt due to being hormonal and knackered.

My sister...I once excitedly showed her a drawing I'd done when I was about 11 and she was in art college...she was about 18. She said "Just because you've made the lines all sketchy doesn't mean it's good."

I mean wtf! This was 35 years ago and I still remember it!

NiceGerbil · 22/08/2021 02:38

OP there's no sort of situations then just anything?

You like hearing these things?

Why? Yours is very bland.

You know you could get some really personal upsetting things. And that might really upset other posters?

I don't understand the point of this thread.

I can start with. Finding out I've had various nicknames at work related to a disability.

An acquaintance telling me if I turned to Jesus I would be cured.

My grandad calling me names related to it as well.

Is that the sort of thing you're interested in hearing?

Plumtree391 · 22/08/2021 02:43

I was 14 and a friend's brother said I was, "Phoney". At 14 I had absolutely no social skills, no idea how it was appropriate to act or speak to people. I was crushed.

biwinoone · 22/08/2021 02:55

By my MIL
-"I don't know what it feels like as I didn't have one" (after my miscarriage)
-My FIL was saying that would be nice to have a grandchild and I said to them that they should pray for us then and she said 'it doesn't matter to us, we can have them from our other kids as well"
-I am lazy because I am a STAP
-Threatened to send me back to my parents if I 'didn't behave"

  • told my parents apparently 'jokingly' to keep and and they can keep my daughter
  • when I was severely ill with fever and feeling very week "so what's wrong with you?"
  • and I am making it up and using gluten sensitivity as an excuse ...God know for what as I had ulcers and IBS which were triggered by it
) -tells everyone that I am insecure and jealous of her. though I don't know what she has that I don't have and why I should be jealous of her. Seems more like projecting. Atleast I have a good relationship with my sisters and have people who love me despite my faults. For her every woman apart from her daughter is jealous of her.

Suffice to say I don't really like her. She is petty and despicable.

memberofthewedding · 22/08/2021 02:59

When I was 8 years old and jealous of my new sister my parents told me they didnt love me any more and were going to put me in a home.

Justilou1 · 22/08/2021 03:09

My mother told me that she wished they hadn’t resuscitated me at birth as I had brain damage and kept making up stories of her abusing me. My father agreed that it would have been for the best.

adeleh · 22/08/2021 03:38

My mother told me I look ghastly and really very odd without make-up.
She also told me my Dad would die of a heart attack because he was so disappointed in 17-yr-old me.
When I tried on a new top one Christmas she gasped in horror and said: ‘We’ll pay for you to have surgery.’

adeleh · 22/08/2021 03:39

You're not the OP though.

I asked if light hearted or any type of situations.

Op said no. Just liked hearing this stuff.

You're being generous really. Obviously it was going to get all sorts of upsetting posts.

I put mine earlier. They are mild. But rude as per OP.

I hope OP is getting what they wanted (?) out of this.

SequinsandStiIettos · 22/08/2021 06:30

They won't be alone.
It's a fairly regular theme in its various guises (rude comments, inappropriate comments, responses to rudeness etc) which comes up every so often. If the OP is schadenfreudig or needed reminding that life can be shittier then job done. I wouldn't want to be told I suit a different hair colour better (although I have been told that, thinking about it, but in a less direct way. Erm...is that your natural hair colour? when I used some copper red wash-in shampoo. I think it was the quizzical tone mixed with horror gaze that gave it away! Grin)
I am generous to a fault, me! Grin Nah, the way I see it, insomniacs like myself can add our tuppence worth or we can put the thread on ignore/discard as someone who likes misery porn.

NiceGerbil · 22/08/2021 06:40

They're usually a bit more boundaried though!

Light hearted or scene set by OP. Rudest thing stranger said etc.

I'm not at all sure what OP was hoping for. They've not been back.

I did ask. What were parameters could mean all sorts of awful stuff.

OP just said I like hearing this stuff.

Um.

NiceGerbil · 22/08/2021 06:41

Misery porn is posters lives though.
The question invites an answer.

MrsSchadenfreude · 22/08/2021 06:48

An old friend of mine told me it was very unfair that I was married to a good looking man, as I was a “loud, fat mess”, whereas she kept herself slim, had regular haircuts and dressed nicely.

unidentifed · 22/08/2021 06:52

I was pregnant for the first time and my boss said "I won't say congratulations because you might lose it as it so early". I did. 😢

Tinacollada · 22/08/2021 06:53

Years ago, in a public sector job, a man said to me " you're a four eyed cunt and I hope you and your family all die"

Nb this was not a colleague 😂

Monkeytennis97 · 22/08/2021 06:55

15 year old boy from another school to me,"you're the ugliest c* I've ever seen". Cue all his friends laughing. Vile.

I went to an all girls school. We were on a joint German exchange with this well known public boys school.

Years later my parents became friends with his parents due to a joint hobby. That was difficult.
