False title. Of course it is

It's horrible. I still have regrets that I ever watched that shit.

Kyliealwayshadthebestdisco · 21/08/2021 04:18

I have never understood why other women enjoy this movie about a seriously creepy and predatory older man preying on a "just technically no longer a child" young woman. Except for the soundtrack which I will concede is good!

EccentricaGalumbits · 21/08/2021 04:30

God no. I mean, it's memorable, iconic even, especially for those of us who were teenagers when it came out. I have fond memories as I went to see it on my first ever date, and got my first ever snog at the end Grin

But it's not a great movie per se.

PermanentTemporary · 21/08/2021 04:37

So bad. But I do like that it's about the only American film I can think of where someone is allowed to have an abortion and it's a good thing and nobody dies.

HateJudgmentalPeople · 21/08/2021 04:51

There are too many “best film ever” titles for me but yes, Dirty Dancing is a classic.

ClaryFairchild · 21/08/2021 04:53

Fun to rewatch, but nah, not that brilliant.

Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 21/08/2021 05:15

No.
Loved it when younger but now in my 30s the story line is a bit sleezy.
Petty - Plus DP "danced" the routine to 'time of my life' (ye I did a full pre-date FB check and saw the cheese fest video) with ex wife as main dance.

PermanentTemporary · 21/08/2021 05:34

Omg Boris. Can't unsee that.

Deathraystare · 21/08/2021 07:11

Nope. Hated it. And why was she called Baby. Looked about 40!

Itstheprinciple · 21/08/2021 07:16

Yes.

TwoBlondes · 21/08/2021 07:18

Sexiest film ever!

LimeRedBanana · 21/08/2021 07:23

Clearly not the best movie ever made, but iconic for those of who were teens when it came out.

Watched it countless times and love it, their chemistry is incredible, and the music is fab.

LimeRedBanana · 21/08/2021 07:26

DH did the dance and lift with his best female friend at our engagement party (I’m 5’ 10”, she is closer to 5’), it was absolutely feckin hilarious, and everyone still reminisces about it to this day.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 21/08/2021 07:29

No.

Billybagpuss · 21/08/2021 07:31

The dds made me watch twilight when it first came out, it was crap so I made them watch lost boys to see a proper vampire film, they agreed mine was infinitely better.

Dirty dancing, is the best film for a rainy winter’s midweek night, with pizza and Prosecco, but I think best film ever is pushing it a lot. In the same genre Grease is way better.

JaninaDuszejko · 21/08/2021 07:31

Love Dirty Dancing so much, watched it with the DDs recently. Such a brilliant female focused bildungsroman. Jennifer Grey was playing a character much younger than she was, so I'm not sure why everyone think Patrick Swayze's character was suppose to be his actual age.

3ormorecharacters · 21/08/2021 07:34

Probably my favourite film, though I grant it may not be the 'best'. It's the film I'll always watch if I come across it on TV. Always lifts my mood and is quietly progressive in its message.

hugoagogo · 21/08/2021 07:34

Don't be daft.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 21/08/2021 07:38

not by a mile

Watch "The movies that made us" on Netflix. there's an episode on Dirty Dancing, very interesting.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 21/08/2021 07:41

@Deathraystare

Nope. Hated it. And why was she called Baby. Looked about 40!
@Deathraystare

She is called Baby because the writer fashioned the character after herself and her childhood nickname was Baby

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 21/08/2021 07:43

@HarrietSchulenberg

Nah, it's a bag o shite. Sits in the crap bin next to Top Gun.
Don't be dissing Top Gun woman!
Dizzy1234 · 21/08/2021 07:47

I love it, it's a real feel good movie and I also love Patrick Swayze.
However another fab, cheesy Patrick Swayze movie is Road House, love that too

CaptSkippy · 21/08/2021 08:30

Not, the best, but pretty good. I love it.

It's the only movie that I know of that has the guts to deal with an abortion narrative and make a case for legal abortion.

JorisBonson · 21/08/2021 08:34

It's a dreadful film.

FenceFuckery · 21/08/2021 08:37

Love it. Can easily watch it over and over and never get tired of it. Yes it has its issues, but it’s warm-hearted and the last 15 minutes is cheese perfection.

I’m waiting for the right time to watch it with DD. What age do people recommend?
