Do you think we’ve had a good summer weather wise?

I’m in Sheffield I keep reading about what a crap summer it’s been. But it’s been pretty sunny most of the time round me.

Sunny yesterday and coming out today. But we’ve had several weeks of really hot sunny weather and lots of sunny days. This is the sunniest summer l can remember since 2003.

I am also in Yorks/Cumbria and don't think it's been too bad at all.

Mostly dry and sunny but not super warm other than the random heat wave a few weeks ago.

ButYouGottaHaveASkillJeff · 17/08/2021 12:18

I'm in Edinburgh and I agree it's been pretty decent. Lovely today. That said I can't wait for autumn!

Pokhora · 17/08/2021 12:20

I am in the South East and it does not feel we have had any summer bar a heatwave of around 4 days.

fingersdoublecrossed · 17/08/2021 12:23

I've literally just been moaning about it. I've counted one day without any rain since 24th July when my child's school broke up. We're in the North-West.
Bought new garden furniture and we've used it twice. Haven't even had a BBQ. Rubbish!

ExtremelyDisorganised · 17/08/2021 12:23

I live in the SE and it has been good, only one week of unbearably hot weather, the rest of the time it has been mild, plenty of sunshine but also plenty of rain so I don't have to keep watering the allotment.

megletthesecond · 17/08/2021 12:24

No.
Down south and we've had about 1 week of warmth.

TonTonMacoute · 17/08/2021 12:25

I'm in Cornwall and June and July were nice but August has been awful - wet grey and gloomy, windy and quite cold.

It's always the same, as soon as the school holidays begin the weather turns.

Parentingdilemmas · 17/08/2021 12:25

Other than the brief heatwave in July not really been much of a summer, didn’t last long at all and it now feels like October/November when we’re only in August

Darthwader · 17/08/2021 12:26

I think it has been superb! A little too hot in July. Just right in August. It has rained a bit but we need rain to survive and it hasn't been wet as such.

SheABitSpicyToday · 17/08/2021 12:26

I’m in cornwall and we’ve had lots of rain, the heating has turned itself on a few times because the house has dipped to such low temps and I’ve had a long sleeve top or a jumper on despite being heavily pregnant! Not complaining as o hate hot weather but I feel sorry for my friend who suffered from SAD and is having a hard time. That one week of hot weather we had she had to isolate.

PattyPan · 17/08/2021 12:27

I am in the south east and we had a heatwave which was not nice because it was too hot and then we had torrential rain for weeks so overall I would say no!

JassyRadlett · 17/08/2021 12:27

SE here and it's been crap. A couple of days of properly hot weather but mostly there's been rain every day, and if not rain then grey and windy, and rarely nipping above 21 degrees or so. Ability to ever leave the house without a jacket because nothing ever gets a chance to warm up before it's wet again or cloudy again is pretty much non-existent.

Quite a bit of flash flooding too which definitely isn't normal for summer here.

It's August, I'm sitting in the warmest room in my house, but I've had to put a jumper on and my feet are cold enough that I'm thinking about socks.

That isn't summer. This is probably the worst since 2012.

Foobydoo · 17/08/2021 12:33

No it has been poor here in the North West.
It has felt autumnal for the last two weeks.
We had a nice few weeks in early july but it has just been the odd nice day since then.
My dd keeps saying it is winter. She is 17 and has asd, no learning difficulties though she is just literal about things. I keep suggesting things to do and she keeps saying she doesn't like to do that in winter and I have to keep saying it isn't winter it's not even autumn yet Grin

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 17/08/2021 12:33

Obviously a north south divide then!

MadMadMadamMim · 17/08/2021 12:34

It's been ok here. Lincolnshire.

Howshouldibehave · 17/08/2021 12:36

South east here-it’s been rubbish! We had nice weather before the kids broke up and a few nice days here and there but it’s mostly been wet and horrible.

ExtremelyDisorganised · 17/08/2021 12:36

I'm very happy that it hasn't been much above 21° most of the time, I hate really hot summers. I'd be happy with this every year.

FourTeaFallOut · 17/08/2021 12:37

It's been fine in the north east. Not as good as last year but still plenty of shorts days. We are mid extension with just a bit of plywood between us and the elements and it could have been a lot worse.

BarbaraofSeville · 17/08/2021 12:39

I saw a weather map a couple of weeks ago that showed that 'the south' had a colder wetter summer than average and northern England and Scotland had the opposite - warmer and dryer.

So that probably explains the differences in perception. It's not great here in Yorkshire at the moment but it's not too bad and we have had some extended hot sunny spells and the ground is very dry. Plus because we're used to it being colder and wetter, when it's dry and even mildish, we class it as good weather here.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 17/08/2021 12:39

Nope. SE here and it’s been crap apart fro two weeks of heatwave. Last year was amazing.

Cissyandflora · 17/08/2021 12:40

London here. Absolutely dreary. My flat is freezing too because we get no sun and have no heating. Grey skies. It does make me feel better about staying home though as we have had to isolate and then I have other problems that mean we have had to spend lots of time home. I feel bad for the children but not to go off topic- weather absolutely English.

ExtremelyDisorganised · 17/08/2021 12:41

The thing is for me, its been warm enough for summer dresses, shorts and teeshirts, sitting outside but also not so hot that you get all hot and sweaty doing stuff during the day, I hate it when all you can do is sit around waiting for it to cool down later in the day.

Waveifyouknowme · 17/08/2021 12:42

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow

Obviously a north south divide then!
I do wonder if the South Coast expects better weather, I've been very disappointed with a crap summer. My neighbour who has recently relocated from N Yorks thinks it has been great.
EssexLioness · 17/08/2021 12:43

SE here and it’s been a rubbish summer. So much rain, wind and generally cold. Sat in my lounge looking at grey skies wearing a think jumper and hugging a hot water bottle, with a blanket on me and still freezing. As I type this my fingernails are actually blue. Hardly spent any time in my garden this year. Last spring/ summer I was out there most days

fruitbrewhaha · 17/08/2021 12:43

Nope. SE and not been hot enough at all.
