Do you think we’ve had a good summer weather wise?

I’m in Sheffield I keep reading about what a crap summer it’s been. But it’s been pretty sunny most of the time round me.

Sunny yesterday and coming out today. But we’ve had several weeks of really hot sunny weather and lots of sunny days. This is the sunniest summer l can remember since 2003.

We had 3 hot days at half term. One 4 day spell in June and just over a week in July. That was it. The rest of time it’s been breezy grey and barely above 20 degrees 🙄🙄. This is the first summer I have not gone abroad and absolutely confirms why we always head south in August. Envy those that enjoy these summer weather conditions but for me - not flipping warm enough.

MsTSwift · 17/08/2021 15:37

Am in south west but weather doesn’t vary that much over England

Yeah, I was thinking that it's been a bit of a shame for the British tourist industry (and for the potential for reduced air travel) - there were lots of people who were 'forced' into a UK holiday this year who could have developed a taste for it if it had been a nice summer. Lots of them will have spent it sat in a cold cottage while it pours it down outside and I imagine for most of them that will have confirmed their desire to be back abroad next summer!
itsgettingwierd · 17/08/2021 16:06

I'm south coast.

It's not been a summer here.

Cloudy most days for a majority and quite blustery bringing the temperatures down.

Only odd few days of all day sun and we had about 2 weeks where it rained and sunny alternating all throughout the day.

ManonDesSauce · 17/08/2021 16:09

Pretty good until the last couple of weeks. Even now not permanently bad, more normal.
North.

ManonDesSauce · 17/08/2021 16:10

My standards are low😂.

BigWoollyJumpers · 17/08/2021 16:13

The worst summer for several years down here in Surrey. Can't remember a more relentless year of cloud, rain, gloom, and cold. We are usually the hottest and almost driest part of the country.

I do wonder though.... you folks up North, when you say "hot" you don't really mean "Southern Hot", though do you? I mean, hot for me would be 28+. We have had relentless 21ish, and that for me is "cold".

TheWayTheLightFalls · 17/08/2021 16:18

Another Londoner here, today is typical of our summer. Grey, dreary and depressing.

This. I still don’t have any ripe tomatoes and we’re over half the way through August! May/June had a lovely two weeks, which coincided with a holiday in Kent for us. That was good.

slavetothekittens · 17/08/2021 16:23

North west....glorious June and then rain, rain and more rain apart from a few days. Waiting for a heatwave.......

ManonDesSauce · 17/08/2021 16:23

Yes, I'm chuffed at 21 tbh.

ManonDesSauce · 17/08/2021 16:24

Steady sunshine not too much wind and I'm happy.

alwaysinpainofsomesort · 17/08/2021 16:27

I hate summer so this year it’s been perfect for me, by my standards here the SE it’s been a cooler than usual as I’ve been able to cope without feeling like I’m going to melt! 😆 My favourite time of year is autumn and I can already feel that it’s on its way… 🍂🍁

SirenSays · 17/08/2021 16:27

I think it's an insult to call a mediocre short heatwave and weeks of rain, summer. I hate the weather in this country.

Durbeyfield · 17/08/2021 16:28

It’s been crap.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 17/08/2021 16:47

Maybe we live in different parts of Sheffield😁I’m in the west bit!!!

We also went away at beginning of August where it was hot. So I’m adding that into the general summer thing. But l would definitely I rely class this as a good summer!

tootiredtospeak · 17/08/2021 16:49

Sheffield here too and it's been ok more dry than sunny. Apart from the recent heatwave in July. Last year was way sunnier. August so far a damp squib!!

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 17/08/2021 16:50

It was sunny yesterday!

KurtWilde · 17/08/2021 16:52

I'm in Yorkshire, it's been bloody dreadful here. Wet for the most part, or windy and wet. Apart from that ridiculously hot week which was equally unenjoyable, there's been barely any summer here. I'm happy for autumn to turn up quite frankly.

moynomore · 17/08/2021 16:54

SE has been totally awful. It so depressing.

eurochick · 17/08/2021 16:55

Pokhora
I am in the South East and it does not feel we have had any summer bar a heatwave of around 4 days.

This sums it up for me. I feel like I am still waiting for summer to start!

MsTSwift · 17/08/2021 17:08

I really want to be green and not fly etc but christ I crave some warmth! We did a beach holiday in the north east and made the best of it had a laugh with our teens but sitting on a beach in a jumper with sand being blown in your face can’t compare with sipping cocktails on the Venetian lagoon which we did last year! Also you can get the train to places like that don’t have to fly.

theworldsbiggestcrocodile · 17/08/2021 17:09

Cambridgeshire. Absolute rubbish. 1 hot week the rest grey and dull, or rain. And today it's actually pretty cold. Fed up.

MsTSwift · 17/08/2021 17:16

Optimistically put on summer dress. Have had to add a hoodie and slippers🙄. Wish I was spanish.

Peanutsandchilli · 17/08/2021 17:27

Really? I'm slightly north of Sheffield but I think it's been absolutely shite. It's dull as anything here, constantly looking as though it's going to chuck it down, and has been for a good few weeks. The last time it was nice was when the kids were at school, at the end of July. A week here and a week there of nice weather is not a proper summer to me.

DeathMetalMum · 17/08/2021 17:29

NW here, I think it's been a nice summer. June and July were both lovely, August is feeling a little autumnal but still really warm when the sun shines through the clouds.

It's been nice enough I have a visible tan line on my legs which never happens.
