Do you think we’ve had a good summer weather wise?

I’m in Sheffield I keep reading about what a crap summer it’s been. But it’s been pretty sunny most of the time round me.

Sunny yesterday and coming out today. But we’ve had several weeks of really hot sunny weather and lots of sunny days. This is the sunniest summer l can remember since 2003.

London here and it’s been rubbish - weekish long heatwave but otherwise dull, grey and wet, while often still managing to remain uncomfortably humid and sticky (cold this week though).

Don’t see it as especially unusual however; August weather here is generally disappointing IME. Last summer was lovely, but a bit of an aberration.

The South East (I’m in Kent) has got used to blazing hot summers for a good few years now, and so, this year with it’s one blast of heat and lots of rain, has felt rubbish. Though in reality there have been lots of nice sunny days, just not the heat we’re used to and hardly ever at the weekends, so it really does feel like we haven’t had a proper summer. Possibly someone from parts of the UK that don’t usually get the weather we do here, might think it had been perfectly fine but we've obviously set our expectations too high over the last few years 😁. That said I did have to wear a coat to walk the dog this morning 🥶

scrivette · 17/08/2021 13:41

South East and it's been rubbish. One week of heat (luckily we were camping) and the rest dull and damp with a few odd afternoons of sunshine.

Rainbowshit · 17/08/2021 13:42

Scotland has had a glorious summer. So many nice days.

JassyRadlett · 17/08/2021 13:44

Scotland has had a glorious summer. So many nice days.

I’m coming on holiday next week so will no doubt ruin it for you all as soon as I arrive, I have form!

Boood · 17/08/2021 13:44

Manchester here. May was unusually cold and nasty. June and most of July were lovely. August has been pretty crap, but it very often is. More significantly though, I run four times a week and have only been unable to go because of rain about four times all summer. So although it’s shit at the moment that’s really not too bad. I’d say on average, it has been average. Certainly not awful.

MiaMarshmallows · 17/08/2021 13:44

Been the worst summer in terms of weather that I can remember but I hate the heat so would rather this than 32C temps.

DrCoconut · 17/08/2021 13:44

It's been awful. Last year was bad but this year has beaten it. The constant rain is doing my head in now. You shouldn't need coats and wellies on your summer holiday. We're currently huddled in our tent watching it pour. Our last camp a few weeks ago had to be abandoned due to the rain and I'm hoping it improves for this one. Back to autumn and winter then 😫 😞

DrCoconut · 17/08/2021 13:47

I'm in north Lincolnshire (except now when we're away).

TheYearOfSmallThings · 17/08/2021 13:48

London has had a lousy summer. A few hot days (still in term time) followed by weeks and weeks of dark gloomy skies, frequent rain, and repeated flooding near me.

It hasn't even been good for the allotments (so I'm told) because there hasn't been enough sun. Only the nettles and weeds are thriving, and although there are lots of blackberries, they haven't had enough sun to sweeten them.

SheWhoRemains · 17/08/2021 13:48

West Cumbria. It's interesting seeing PP in the south complaining about 21 degree temps. That's warm here Grin

I used to live on the south coast and I did need to adapt to the cooler temperatures.

I don't think it's been terrible. We've had plenty of dry days here, but generally overcast which can be depressing. Warm enough for t-shirts etc, but that's anything above 15 for us now!

Snugglepumpkin · 17/08/2021 13:48

I'm in Devon & yesterday I had to turn the heating on for an hour to get the bite out of the air.

I don't remember ever turning on the heating in August in my entire life.

We've had a few days when it was unbelievably hot but more days when it was grey skies & a bit chilly where I am.

All my plants in the garden are flowering & fruiting at different times than they usually do too.

tigger1001 · 17/08/2021 13:49

East Scotland here, and think the summer has been pretty good. Plenty nice weather. A few bad days, but generally been out and about most days

flightofthewilderbeast · 17/08/2021 13:52

In London, rubbish summer.
Although I guess a good summer weather wise is subjective, a couple of people here liking that it's mild- for me I want sunny and hot all the way, that's been pretty non-existent here. Currently wearing a jumper & not happy!

MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat · 17/08/2021 13:52

No. I’m not even a fan of hot weather but we’ve had hardly any warm days at all (south east) I lost 3 stone this year and bought myself some new summer clothes which I’ve hardly had a chance to wear!

MedusasBadHairDay · 17/08/2021 13:53

SE and I'm so tired of the grey skies and the rain - the large variety of types of rain have not eased the monotony of it tbh. I'm still spending far too much time with a blanket wrapped around me, and the fans have had barely any use. It feels very much like autumn, and not a nice one either.

Anordinarymum · 17/08/2021 13:56

Yes ! We have had some fab weather this summer and I have the tan to prove it :) West Yorks

Boombadoom · 17/08/2021 13:57

It’s absolutely shit where I am in the south east.

Boombadoom · 17/08/2021 13:57

P.S I am currently wearing jeans, a hoody and thick socks. It’s freezing.

LimberlostLark · 17/08/2021 13:58

I've loved this year's summer temps - much more comfortable to sleep and walk about in than last year's.

Been no good for the garden, though. Everything seems so slow and far behind...

waterlego · 17/08/2021 14:00

I'm in the SE and happy enough with how things have been here. It's been rather grey the last couple of weeks but I prefer this to last summer which was far too hot!

clemensiadove · 17/08/2021 14:00

@fingersdoublecrossed

I've literally just been moaning about it. I've counted one day without any rain since 24th July when my child's school broke up. We're in the North-West. Bought new garden furniture and we've used it twice. Haven't even had a BBQ. Rubbish!
Same here. It's been awful since the kids broke up 24th July. We've come down south for a few days and it's cloudy and 16 degrees, same as at home NW.
Skybluepinkgiraffe · 17/08/2021 14:07

@ExtremelyDisorganised

I live in the SE and it has been good, only one week of unbearably hot weather, the rest of the time it has been mild, plenty of sunshine but also plenty of rain so I don't have to keep watering the allotment.
Likewise, and it's my kind of weather!
WrongKindOfFace · 17/08/2021 14:09

It’s been rubbish. Very rainy and grey.

Whatamesssss · 17/08/2021 14:10

SE London and it has been very changeable, I prefer it cooler but it is a little chilly.

I saw 3 different lots of geese flying south this week (usually late September/October) so I don't think it is going to get any better.

I am pleased northern England and Scotland has had nice weather for a change. Grin
