Do you think we’ve had a good summer weather wise?

I’m in Sheffield I keep reading about what a crap summer it’s been. But it’s been pretty sunny most of the time round me.

Sunny yesterday and coming out today. But we’ve had several weeks of really hot sunny weather and lots of sunny days. This is the sunniest summer l can remember since 2003.

SW Scotland and we all have cracking tans! We've had a great summer when South England seemed to bear the brunt of the rain for once.... 😂

JulesCobb · 17/08/2021 21:14

@fingersdoublecrossed

I've literally just been moaning about it. I've counted one day without any rain since 24th July when my child's school broke up. We're in the North-West. Bought new garden furniture and we've used it twice. Haven't even had a BBQ. Rubbish!
Yep. This.

I'm in the SE and haven't needed a jacket, socks, vest or anything similar for months now, I've been in sandals, shorts, teeshirts and sleeveless dresses. Such a relief to get to this point of the summer and know its very unlikely now that there will be any more very high temperatures. Thankfully we were away somewhere cooler for the July mini heatwave.

MrsJBaptiste · 17/08/2021 22:42

I think a lot of people forget how shit it was up until mid-May (Leeds)

It was so cold and miserable, we'd all be sat in Teams meetings with blankets on! June/July had a few hot weeks but August has been rubbish - particularly in Cornwall 😠

Holding out for a few nice weeks before the wet, damp days set in but I won't hold my breath...

Blossomtoes · 17/08/2021 22:57

The weekend is set to be nice.

Lesina · 17/08/2021 23:03

No such thing as bad weather just inappropriate clothing :)

AngeloMysterioso · 17/08/2021 23:08

Another south-easter and no, it’s been shite. My heating automatically came on twice today. It’s August FFS

Well that's just not true is it?

I can wear appropriate clothing for rain, but in summer, I want to be in the sun, sunbathing, reading, having bbqs etc. No clothing is going to make sitting outside in the rain doing those things fun.

Blossomtoes · 17/08/2021 23:12

Of course it’s not true. It’s why so many of us are prepared to spend ££££ for guaranteed sun.

Justgivemewine · 17/08/2021 23:13

It’s been pretty rubbish this year, especially compared to last year where I think we were a bit spoilt with good weather ( and which probably helped a lot of people get thru lockdown)

I’m in the SE and I think it’s been crap. Nice weather early July but I was working. Since then, grey, cold wind, torrential rain, flooding, hail stones and today mid august 16 degrees. It must come down To perception if you think it’s been ok.
Polkadotties · 17/08/2021 23:17

Essex. It’s been pretty rubbish here. A couple of weeks of hot weather and that’s about it. Lots of rain, getting the hay in on yard’s fields was a nightmare and at one point they thought they would lose the whole crop

pastaparadise · 17/08/2021 23:19

NW and miserable. Few days very hot when kids still in school/ work, then grey and 'meh' all holidays. Currently in wales on holiday and 15 degrees!! Craving foreign climes - so depressing that autumn is coming and i dont feel we've had a summer

Crunchymum · 17/08/2021 23:19

Nope. Crap weather in London and crap weather where we are now (SE coast. Half way through a holiday with literally an hour of actual sun thus far and more drizzly / grey days forecasted)

Inthesameboat22 · 17/08/2021 23:22

Southeast. Horrible summer so far so I'm hopingfor more of an Indian summer with Septemberand October being really warm.

We've had a few nice days here and there so far, but overall it feels much wetter and colder than usual.

Not here in the NW it's not. Forecast is rain and thunder.
Chicchicchicchiclana · 18/08/2021 18:34

I've worn socks quite often this summer. Last few days I've worn jeans and a long sleeved top. It's hardly summer weather.

I'm only a few miles further north from you, and this has not been the case at all. 2006? 2013? 2018?

April was very dry and sunny, but cold, May was cold, wet and miserable, June was lovely, and so was most of July. August has been really disappointing. We most definitely not had several weeks of really hot weather.

sanityisamyth · 22/08/2021 16:31

No! I was quite happy in the heatwave when everyone else seemed to be whinging!!

To be honest SW Scotland has had good weather for many summers. Plus it has amazing beaches. But like the rest of the UK it can never be guaranteed and mostly for SW England August is a cool washout.
