Do you think we’ve had a good summer weather wise?

I’m in Sheffield I keep reading about what a crap summer it’s been. But it’s been pretty sunny most of the time round me.

Sunny yesterday and coming out today. But we’ve had several weeks of really hot sunny weather and lots of sunny days. This is the sunniest summer l can remember since 2003.

It's been horrible for the whole bloody year except a couple of too hot days! I'm actually finding it really depressing especially as we head towards autumn and, no doubt, more rain.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 17/08/2021 14:13

My DH has actually put the heating on. He's a huge Yorkshireman and it's the 17th August!

ajja2021 · 17/08/2021 14:13

I'm north west, we had a good month of decent weather. That's about it though, would've been nice to have some more

tempester28 · 17/08/2021 14:16

This has been the worst summer in years

DoubleShotEspresso · 17/08/2021 14:18

Another Londoner here, today is typical of our summer. Grey, dreary and depressing.

noideawhatusernametochoose · 17/08/2021 14:24

Its' been pretty rubbish.
And it's all my fault; it hasn't been properly sunny since I bought a new patio umbrella. Sorry.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 17/08/2021 14:27

@noideawhatusernametochoose I think I ended the mini heatwave, I bought a paddling pool and a fan and the next day it rained.

GloGirl · 17/08/2021 14:27

I'm near Sheffield and I have literally no idea what you mean Hmm the weather has been vile.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 17/08/2021 14:28

I'm in Yorkshire too, on the west/south yorks border, and although we've had a few rainy days I don't think it's been too bad. It's been pleasant: warm, but not too hot, and mostly dry with a nice breeze.

Mol1628 · 17/08/2021 14:31

Yorkshire. I think it’s been nice. Warm enough to get out and about. Haven’t seen that much rain. Not too sunny but we’ve had a bit.

Blossomtoes · 17/08/2021 14:31

Seriously? You don’t remember 2014 or 2018 (that was an absolute scorcher) or last year? I feel completely cheated this year, it started off well but it’s been miserable here for weeks.

Athinginitself · 17/08/2021 14:32

Also Sheffield I think it's been pretty rubbish, I feel like we've had a couple of good weeks, that stupidly hot week and its rained the rest of the time!

ChevreChase · 17/08/2021 14:34

My recollection of the last few months is that it's been an unusually cool summer where I am (lower bit of the Midlands): really rainy in the early part, when in the past few years we've often had hot spells in May. There was that week in July at the start of the school holidays when it was really hot, but other than that it's largely been around 21-22. I loathe hot weather, but you want a spell of it being in the mid 20s to feel that you've experienced 'summer', and to get lovely warm evenings after too-hot-for-me-personally days.

Onilove · 17/08/2021 14:36

We've been very lucky in my part of Scotland this year, good weather for the start of the kids summer holidays, every day out, bbq, weekend away we've had has been lovely. This never usually happens when I make plans! I've had the tan -burn- marks to prove it. Its not been very nice or dry the last few weeks though and I did pop the heating on for a bit the other morning to take the chill out the air.

Almostascot · 17/08/2021 14:43

Also in Scotland (west). It’s been pretty good here. A little too hot for a couple of weeks. But warmer and more dry days than normal. The chat at the school gate here has been how quickly the summer holidays went because of the nice weather. However, I suppose what we might consider nice Someone from SE England might think is pretty average!

WaitinginVain · 17/08/2021 14:47

West Midlands here and really cool today.
Had some great weather in the run up to and the first week or so of the school holidays. Unfortunately, we were isolating due to cases in school so missed that Sad.
Just really grey and rain predicted for next few days as well.
Heating on morning and night for past couple of weeks.

Livpool · 17/08/2021 14:57

Not here - north west England.

Had about 1 week of nice weather (not altogether).

It was like October this morning and I have had a cardigan on all day. I want sunshine!

allofthecheese · 17/08/2021 14:58

Nope. South East. One week of hot weather.. which we were isolating for Sad

nordica · 17/08/2021 15:00

I'm in London and spring was really lovely - I remember Easter weekend and the weeks either side really were gorgeously sunny and mild.

Since then though actual summer has been awful. Rainy more often than not. I don't like the super heatwaves so at least that was short-lived but missing the sunshine!

Livpool · 17/08/2021 15:01

I want to know where it has been nice - it has rained at some point every day for the last few weeks. It is depressing

FlowerPower3110 · 17/08/2021 15:08

I'm in Oxfordshire. We haven't had any warm weather apart from that random heatwave in July, although I'm not complaining. Personally I don't mind colder summers.

HelloMissus · 17/08/2021 15:10

It’s been changeable where I am.
On Sunday I was sunbathing in the garden.
Today, I needed to wear a hoodie to walk the dog and it’s now raining.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 17/08/2021 15:10

East Anglia.
No, it's been shite. Very cold dry spring (confirmed by all the farmers), very few really hot days, then lots of clouds and rain (confirmed by my own observations of a late start to harvest, and its patchy progress).

It was decent on Sunday so I planned a river swim for Monday - by which time the weather has gone from 22C and very still to about 16C with a nippy breeze out of the NW.

Fed up, and the fucking weeds keep sprouting in my garden.

Chilly and miserable here today. But a great year for forage and grain.

ApplyWithin · 17/08/2021 15:19

It’s also a matter of perception. When I visit family in the north-west they are always very cheerful about dry day with the sun popping out for an hour even if it’s 16 degrees. Because they get so much rain, anything else is a bonus.

In the south-east we have higher expectations of the weather (because it is usually a good 3/4 degrees warmer) so we’re less easily impressed!

LadyCatStark · 17/08/2021 15:22

@fingersdoublecrossed

I've literally just been moaning about it. I've counted one day without any rain since 24th July when my child's school broke up. We're in the North-West. Bought new garden furniture and we've used it twice. Haven't even had a BBQ. Rubbish!
Really? We’re in the North West too and o was just coming on to say we’ve had a cracking summer! It’s turning a bit now but we’ve had hardly any rain. It’s funny how the weather can be so different!
