Underwear under pjs.

Dd attended a sleepover and told me that all the girls wear pants under their pjs and they laughed at my dd as she just put her pjs on with no underwear.
I've never worn underwear under my nightwear. I thought it was good to let the area breathe at night!!!
Or is this just something my mum has taught me and does everyone else wear underwear under nightwear?!
Worried I've been doing it wrong for the past 40 years!

I had the exact same experience aged around 13. Came down in pjs and realised my friends had pants on underneath still. Went back upstairs and put mine back on.

It comes up every now and then on here and it seems to be a 50/50 split between those who do and those who don't. I still don't and find it weird and uncomfortable to do so but those that do think we're the weird ones.

I hate sleeping with pants on, even for a few nights during my period. I find they dig in and don't feel comfortable. At least I'm not the only one!

Team pants over here. I don't want to wash pyjamas every day!

I wear knickers under my pyjamas. For me it feels weird not to.

Nope, no pants if I wear pj's at night although I mostly sleep with nothing on

Just pants here, can’t bear pyjama trousers in bed.
I think my mum put me in both when I was a child though.

No pants or knickers when I’m in bed. Loathe it absolutely. But also no pjs either

I keep my pants on too - I personally find seams get into uncomfortable places during the night otherwise - but I wouldn’t judge anyone who doesn’t. Totally personal preference.
(I won’t ever wear pants with seams up the back for the same reason.)

I wear tampons or a moon cup so not an issue

I never wear pants and I don't wash my pjs every day either. However I actually sleep naked, so only wear pjs in the evening. When I'm camping I wear them. No pants.

I only wear pj's out of bed so in bed I wear nothing. Sometimes I have pants on with pj's but mostly i don't have any on

Wear pants these days as I go to loo a few times during the night and for some reason just feels better to have them on.
Didn't use to though and my DD certainly doesn't wear them at night.

I’m wondering why previous posters are saying ‘eww’ etc. How is it any different than wearing knickers that touch your vulva; as long as you change your pj bottoms regularly (I have fresh shorts/trousers every night)

Also my parents used to try to stop it for your exact breathing reasons, which are nonsense. I believe those beliefs, which go way back, are historically linked to sexual reasons which imo opinion just makes it far worse. Prep 1910s a lot of women didnt wear knickers / were encouraged to only wear knickers when outside home (to allow down there to breathe (ha!))

Pj bottoms are cover enough. No panties underneath. Wash and wipe well before putting them on and as for menses yes, pants and pads for the 5 or so necessary nights but there’s 30 nights in the month. Then there’s menopause and heaven…no periods.

When we were kids my mum never used to put us underwear on under our PJ's, so I did the same with my DC's, my dd got to about 11 and started to wear her knickers under her pyjamas through choice. My ds's still don't wear any underwear at night as younger. Since I was about 11 I've worn knickers to bed and can't imagine not doing. Different strokes for different folks I suppose.
