Welcome, @Popcornbetty, and welcome back @Helocariad and thank you both for your baking news. I now feel guilty as I haven't baked anything in ages.

Speaking of medical calls, I had a call a while ago that my phone labeled "potential spam" so I refused it and it went to voicemail. It was the orthopedic surgical nurse saying that she has questions about my medical history and to please call her back. I just did so and of course, it went to her voicemail.

My group practice also has several urgent care locations where you can just show up without an appointment. I've never tried to call after hours so I don't know how they handle off-hours calls. I guess I should find out.

I'll call 111 today about an op.

My mother was a nightmare this week, she phoned about some paperwork screaming so I said come here and I'll do it. Then she stood a metre from the front door sobbing so I paused then had to run out in the rain in my bare feet and clasp her to get her inside. I'm a size 6 and she's 16 (UK), could have gone wrong.

Then she screamed that she hated my house because there is a bike which was rude. I got her tea and a chocolate biscuit to calm down and she sobbed all the way through the paperwork. The final insult was when she left she stole my beautiful peacock ornament.

I've put her on block for now, she's frazzled me.

The final insult was when she left she stole my beautiful peacock ornament.

Your mum comes to your house, gets help with paperwork, tea, and a biscuit, and then steals from you? Does she have a history of acting like this or is this abusive behavior recent?

Frownette This seems to be slightly strange behaviour .

It has finally stopped raining. DH went to meet a colleague and was served "a brilliant red" and "quite a good whisky". Now he is very slightly drunk (angesäuselt). He is trying to work.Grin

Sunbird24 · 01/07/2021 20:03

Oh! That must be where our word ‘sozzled’ comes from Prok!
@Frownette I had tonsillitis twice a year since I was about 15, but the dr said I had to have it three times a year to get surgery. In the end I mithered him so much that he referred me but he said I was wasting the consultant’s time. The consultant too one look down my throat and said “why have you not had these out years ago?”
🤦‍♀️

Frownette · 01/07/2021 20:14

Aw Sun how long did it take to recover from op? I think some people don't realise how painful it can be.

My mother can be extremely nice Prok and MissConductUS but she can also be volatile and screechy. I'll get the peacock back. She admitted it immediately when I phoned her afterwards and asked where it had gone, puzzled. I just went to the shop. It was a bit painful and I was panting but job done. My friend called round and I had to apologise for throwing up on sitting room floor. I'll slowly clean up everything.

Prok so DH is happy then!

Popcornbetty · 01/07/2021 20:19

@MissConductUS thank you and loving the thread! Oh i hate it when that happens and trust the call you ignore to be important!

My dentist cancelled my 6 monthly checkup today with one of those 'unforeseen circumstance' letters. I wish they would just say a dentist is leaving or on holiday as at it really sounds so severe! Shock

Sunbird24 · 01/07/2021 20:20

I had the obligatory 2 weeks off work, but I did get an infection halfway through and ended up back in hospital for another 3 nights. Was still back in work when I was originally meant to be though and no further issues.

Frownette · 01/07/2021 20:21

I didn't realise recovery was that long !!

jennytheonionslayer · 01/07/2021 20:30

Very dull and unexciting news from me, I fell off a machine in the gym and have broken my back in two places.

Dull and unexciting laying around for months with a side helping of agony.

'Triffic........

Sunbird24 · 01/07/2021 20:41

It isn’t always @Frownette, but they do say take 2 weeks off because you’re walking round with two open wounds in the back of your throat. I just always do things the hard way!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 01/07/2021 20:43

Frownette Yes, apart from the nice drinks - he can finally restart working!

Jenny For how long will you have to keep lying down? I got myself a neodesk to be able to work / do coursework while on my back.

MissConductUS · 01/07/2021 20:54

Frownette, the first 3-5 days after the surgery will be uncomfortable but treatable with OTC pain medications. You should be completely healed in two weeks. Think of it like pulling a tooth that hurts.

Did your mum explain why she took the peacock?

I have been motherly and commanding and insisted DS orders a new door handle for his car. He insists it gives the car character, I've pointed out that should the car be a fiery wreck it would be impossible for anyone to extricate him with no exterior door handle.

The handle arrives tomorrow Wink

Frownette · 01/07/2021 21:07

Ah no @jennytheonionslayer speedy recovery Sad

MissConductUS no I don't understand it at all. It was from a relative who's now dead and she was in a highly emotional state. I'll pick it up next week.

MissConductUS · 01/07/2021 21:15

Welcome @jennytheonionslayer, and thanks for your injury and prognosis news. I'm sorry to hear about what happened to you.

We have a lot of orthopedic injuries on this thread, in addition to run of the mill infections and medical complaints. Are we unlucky, clumsy, old or all of the above? Grin

Champagne, how does he open the door without a handle?

I'm off shortly. I did finally connect with the surgical nurse and answered all of her questions almost all of which were in my electronic medical records.

Champagneforeveryone · 01/07/2021 21:24

Miss it has to be done by the driver, or by rather nonchalantly putting your arm through the open window and using the inside handle.

We just have to get through him and DH fitting it without murdering one another now Grin

Squirrel26 · 01/07/2021 22:33

I’m watching a program about people who have big dogs. One family have 5 St Bernards. I love my (medium sized) dog but blimey I’m glad a) he’s not three times the size and b) there aren’t 4 more of him. Shock

Frownette · 01/07/2021 23:27

Champers that confused me a bit, what did DS do when he drove somewhere and parked up? Just leave the window open? I just got my first bit of sleep in 2 days and woke up hallucinating that someone was shouting at me. No throwing up in hours, yippee

Silkiecats · 02/07/2021 08:09

DD just came back from her walk and then shouted DH there's a massive spider so DH got the massive spider and went to put it in the back of DDs sweatshirt, she screamed and he went to put it outside instead.

Its her last day at this school today. New school on Monday.

Frownette · 02/07/2021 08:36

With new hair colour? Grin I just got myself a cold drink and a fruit fly dive bombed into it, irritating

Silkiecats · 02/07/2021 08:42

She hasn't asked for new hair colour yet, but has said she needs new mobile, new shoes, new maths set, new black bag as well as the new travel pass and new uniform. She seemed to be very keen on the principal there, DH said he was very good looking, DD said he was lovely, posh, young looking and you could see why he was successful and she wished he had spent longer with her. DH said to tell her he had a wedding ring on. I explained that wasn't an issue for a lot of men Grin

Squirrel26 · 02/07/2021 11:56

THE BEST thing about a new school or new school year is the NEW STUFF. Grin

Traffic outside my office window is very noisy today.

Silkiecats · 02/07/2021 12:03

DD said the trouble with DH is he often refuses to pay for new stuff for her saying she doesn't really need it. He just doesn't understand. Grin

Frownette · 02/07/2021 12:03

I was just reading the strangest book of short stories I've ever read
