Silkiecat would be happy with a collar - on DH with a voice activated remote control. Grin

She is seriously cross with DH, he didn't sleep with her last night, he went out with DD this morning to new school, he has been out with DD for 2 hours and now he is out to the Chinese. Silkiecat says he has been useless today and incredibly selfish and has already told him off once and is preparing to continue this until he realises the error of his ways and donates all his time to Silkiecat.

Nydj · 30/06/2021 20:34

Fingers crossed for you, @Sunbird24.

HelenaJustina · 30/06/2021 22:38

Just watched the end of the Murray match, not at all calming. Tomorrow should be quite calm though, staffing at school has passed the critical point and we have had to close. Being in the building with no pupils is slightly eerie, very quiet and yet nicely peaceful!

echt · 01/07/2021 05:09

I set up an iPhone, with the help of the splendid folk of Apple Care.

Stupid as it sounds, I've set up laptops one my own, and with complete confidence, but never a phone. That was my late DH's job. I knew phones had SIM cards, but thought they came with the phone. Duh.

Now at least I know a iPad might need a SIM , too.

Jesus. I felt about 100 years old.

sueelleker · 01/07/2021 08:41

I'm very stiff this morning. I spent yesterday afternoon weeding the front garden, and as I can't kneel, due to a knee replacement, I had to sit on a stool and swivel sideways. My back does not thank me today.

Silkiecats · 01/07/2021 10:25

Silkiecat is currently getting very vocal with DH, he slept with her last night but he is being incredibly rude this morning and talking to his computer saying he is busy. Not sure what can be more important than me says Silkiecat. He has just been in the same room as that giant rat, oka wabbit. That is crossing the line. He is now making amends.

Frownette · 01/07/2021 13:00

I'm a bit miserable here as I have another bout of tonsilitus - it means fever, vomiting, headache and sore throat.

I'm really thirsty and want to keep water down. Also would like some sleep.

Silkiecats · 01/07/2021 13:05

Hope you feel better soon Frownette

Just changed our bedding and I had 2 giant crumpets and I hoovered our bedroom. Was supposed to have second vaccine and lido today but needed DH to drive me as he was too busy with work in the end. Though its probably better to leave it to school holidays incase school problems.

MissConductUS · 01/07/2021 14:23

Welcome, @echt, and thanks for sharing your iPhone news. You can be forgiven for thinking that they come with the SIM cards installed because in the US, they usually do. Here the phones are normally purchased through the wireless carrier, which gets Apple to preinstall them.

Frownette, have you considered getting your tonsils surgically removed? You go through this a lot, and it's a very minor surgery.

OP posts:
Frownette · 01/07/2021 14:44

@MissConductUS do they do that under local or general anaesthetic? My surgery actually denied me antibiotics and didn't mention an op! I feel quite weak now after all that vomiting and sweating. I want to go to the shop but weak and sweaty and feel it would be a bit rude. My fireman friend would as he is such a love, but he's about 20/25 minutes drive away and works very hard. Neighbour would as it'd only be a 2 minute drive I think he's at work.

Thank you both for letting me have a little whine Grin

Frownette · 01/07/2021 14:45

**bit rude to ask someone

Sunbird24 · 01/07/2021 15:05

@Frownette I had my tonsils removed under general at the age of 34, it was pretty horrendous (the recovery rather than the op) but I’m still glad I did it.

MissConductUS · 01/07/2021 15:10

Frownette , an adult tonsillectomy is normally done under general anesthesia but the procedure is short, no more than 45 minutes, so they'll use something like propofol. You'll come out of it and feel normal and alert after 10-15 minutes, so an easy recovery. Here's some info about the procedure and recovery process. I'm a bit shocked that your surgery didn't discuss it with you as an option.

Ah ok thanks for the info. No surgery wouldn't help at all so I dialled 111 to get antibiotics and they said if they didn't work I'd get an op.

Do you have an equivalent of 111 in the U.S.?

Sunbird24 · 01/07/2021 16:01

Ha, disregard what it says about what food you’ll get after the op! Jelly & ice cream?? I got dry toast and wasn’t allowed to be discharged til I’d eaten it. They recommend things that will scrape your throat in order to prevent nasties growing because they don’t stitch up where your tonsils used to be.

Frownette · 01/07/2021 16:15

@Sunbird24 depriving you like that, shocking Shock

This doesn't sound like it's going to be much fun. How many bouts did you get before yours were whisked out? This is my third time. Friend's daughter had 6!

soddingkitten · 01/07/2021 16:20

I need to catch up on the thread so apologies if I’ve missed momentous or troubling news.

My dull news is that Sodding is scared of my flipflops. The sound seems to frighten him. I have changed into soft leather pumps because his constant startle response was bothering me. He caught another sparrow this morning and had to be chased out of the house. I noticed that several noisy sparrows gathered around him on the patio making a racket. It did not save their pal. 😔

MissConductUS · 01/07/2021 16:38

My medical insurance company has a 24/7 phone number I can use to talk to an RN. I've never used it. They can't issue prescriptions. They also offer telemedicine visits with doctors, who can issue an Rx. The large medical practice I use also has telemedicine visits with their own doctors. If I'm ill I can usually book a visit with my own GP the same day or the next day. They're really good about fitting you in.

Nice to see you Sodding. My Dboycat is terrified of a large blue exercise ball I use for physical therapy. If it moves at all he's out of the room like lightning.

It's much cooler here today. I have my presurgical exam tomorrow morning, then am taking the rest of the day off. We're off to visit DD at uni on Saturday, then Sunday is Independence Day, so the federal holiday falls on Monday. So I have a long weekend thanks to King George III. Grin

@Soddingkitten aw, cats will be cats. It's sweet the sparrows little friends tried to save him.

I'm going to wait until at least 6pm so there are less people/traffic around then drag myself to the shop clinging to the railings.

Popcornbetty · 01/07/2021 16:49

Left overs for dinner tonight with different side meaning no cooking. Made cookie dough yesterday too meaning warm batch of cookies for everyone making me feel very 'super -mumish' despite doing hardly anything! Looking forward to eating one later when dc in bed while watching meaningless rubbish on netflix!
Dh had cut the grass which makes me happy...

Helocariad · 01/07/2021 16:59

Hello again, I haven't been on here for a long while and it's lovely to see that the thread is still going Grin

My uneventful news is that I'm about to start dinner, one of my favourite & simple dishes: halloumi with pasta, courgettes and chopped tomatoes. Onions and garlic. Yum!

My daughter made brownies yesterday. I thought there'd be some left for pudding for me but I just checked and they're all gone. We are a family of greedy guts.

Silkiecats · 01/07/2021 17:06

Sounds like you need to buy the sparrows some tiny flip-flops Sodding

Wabbit was very noisy today, not sure what he was doing but I could hear DH saying wabbit can you be a bit quieter. Wabbit sounded like he was having lots of fun ripping things up.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 01/07/2021 17:08

If I need medical info I either call my insurance company's nurse line, which is on the back of my insurance card, or the GP surgery, which has a 24-hour out-of-hours service - they'd have the doctor on call phone back and if necessary send a prescription through to a pharmacy.
Frownette · 01/07/2021 17:31

@ZZTopGuitarSolo it sounds like it's run a bit differently there - no chance of GP surgery out of hours Grin

Our 111 and 999 are 24 hour.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 01/07/2021 18:06

We've got a central phone number for out of hours cases (they either advise you, send a doctor to your home or get you to a hospital) I have not yet used it. But we have the same service for animals and that I did use for our first cat.
DD had her 1 vacc. - sb dropped out and she was called as we live next door to her GP.
