The harbinger of the new school year here has been the arrival of DS's uni tuition bill for the fall semester. Doubtless, the bill for DD's tuition and fees will arrive soon. It's a mind-boggling amount of money.

It's going to rain all day tomorrow for our drive to Massachusetts to see DD and take her to lunch. The restaurant we wanted to take her to is closed for the holiday weekend. We found another nearby that will be open on Saturday. We've been there once before and it was very good, just a bit further away.

I'm off shortly for my surgical clearance exam, then I'm going to the warehouse club for a shop.

Frownette, what kind of short stories?

Champagne, my DH is only moderately mechanically inclined, so we would normally let the car dealer replace a part like that to save the aggregation. He did recently replace the lock on our mailbox.

@MissConductUS what's a surgical clearance exam? I can imagine hpw expensive the uni costs are.

The short stories are very black humour. I was puzzled where I got it from because I knew I didn't buy it but remembered people leave out books around here for others, don't know if that happens in U.S. I googled it and it's by a comedian Alexai Sayle.

MissConductUS · 02/07/2021 14:13

It's just some lab tests and a physical exam to make sure it's safe for me to go under general anesthesia and that my blood will clot normally.

I passed. Smile

Miss good for you!
(Anästhesistensprechstunde - that's where you went)

Frownette · 02/07/2021 14:24

Yay, well done on passing! The postman just called and looked alarmed when I wobbled towards him like a three legged foal, I think my tonsilitus is clearing up. I said sorry and he said "that's ok".

No more throwing up and I took a few bites of something earlier. No sure when I can go far from the house though Sad

HelenaJustina · 02/07/2021 17:44

I know I’ve said this before but this week has actually been the longest week in the history of weeks! Just Y6 to get back safely from their residential in another hour or so and then I will be drinking all the gin...

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 03/07/2021 08:38

Good morning,
the rain has stoped for the weekend - or so I am told - and I am doing the cleaning as usual for Saturdays.

mathanxiety · 03/07/2021 08:57

@jennytheonionslayer - that sounds horrible. Will you recover and be able to walk, run, work?

I got today off as well as Monday, so I'm set to enjoy a nice long weekend. Local fireworks for the Fourth were canceled (actually nobody knew what to plan for thanks to covid, so they just didn't happen) but we're going to get burgers at a local place and have a homemade chocolate pudding with toasted marshmallows and crumbled graham crackers for dessert. Plus some Mexican beer that I have had in the fridge since Easter.

Frownette · 03/07/2021 10:29

Helena I remember your fondness for a gin on a Friday Grin

I spent last night in a tonsilitus fever and was having aural hallucinations thinking that my mother was shouting at me.

Best to @jennytheonionslayer, I hope you have strong painkillers and are being looked after Flowers

Champagneforeveryone · 03/07/2021 12:57

Just so you know, I have a hangover and might possibly die.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 03/07/2021 13:11

champagne sorry! but Grin - did you have a good time or did you get drunk by way of escape?

Champagneforeveryone · 03/07/2021 13:23

I had a good time at the time, not so good now.

DH has gone to fetch me a restorative McDonald's. DH does not approve of McDonald's so I fear I must be on the brink

Frownette · 03/07/2021 13:24

Ah well, I hope you recover soon!

HelenaJustina · 03/07/2021 13:33

@Champagneforeveryone much sympathy Flowers

I stopped at two gins, which was a good decision. I still feel exhausted, and almost like I need a good cry to shed the pent-up-ness of the last 7 days!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 03/07/2021 13:45

I was forced to eat two slices of cheese cake to free up space in the fridge.

MissConductUS · 03/07/2021 13:59

Happy Caturday, lovely people of the thread. I made the peanut butter and chocolate swirl bars last night to bring to DD. With a bit of luck we will be on the road to Massachusettes in about an hour and a half.

It will be a cool, rainy day, so not perfect for the trip but better than 40 C in the hot sun.

Prok, I just discovered the blueberry bread from the farm hiding in the fridge. DS is helping me eat it.

Speaking of baking I am going to bake my 'go to' chocolate brownie recipe later with the excuse it is for the dc (it is actually to satisfy my chocolate craving). Dc2 was very restless last night and was up crying most of the night (another excuse for an indulgent treat today)!

MissConductUS · 03/07/2021 15:17

Popcorn, happy baking. I have a recipe for brownies that involves melting chocolate chips in hot butter, with the addition of two eggs and a small amount of flour. I call them Death by Chocolate Brownies Smile. I've shared the recipe with several people on the thread. If you'd like to give them a try at some point just PM me with your email address and I'll send you the recipe.

We're almost ready to go. It's a lovely drive through the Berkshire Mountains. I've just realized that Dgirlcat is going to be very unhappy with us when we get back as her wet food dinner will be very late. We leave dry food out for them, so she won't starve, but it will still be considered a major failing on the part of her servants humans.

Caterday?! Seems like people are getting in on the sweet stuff today! Enjoy your trip, are you taking daughter out for a meal?

Sunbird24 · 03/07/2021 15:27

I may have to take a trip to the supermarket for cake after reading what everyone else is up to!

Frownette · 03/07/2021 15:47

That sounds like a plan, Sunbird24!

sproutsandparsnips · 03/07/2021 15:49

HelenaJustina that is good isn't it that Y6 can go on residential? DS's Y6 residential has been cancelled as the LEA have banned them all. He is sad.
I am watching Wales play Canada.

HelenaJustina · 03/07/2021 16:13

@sproutsandparsnips it was on a knife edge last weekend as we had our first bubbles close at the end of the weekend before. Deciding whether it was safe for them to go was incredibly stressful, and I’ve not slept a lot this week. But I’m so glad we were brave and went ahead (as an academy we had a bit more freedom in that respect) as they come back different children!

DC2 and I are baking biscotti...

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 03/07/2021 16:17

Reading a thread on the higher education board I had to look up 'pastoral care at university' - another cultural difference.

I have treated my hydrangea for iron deficiency.

Frownette · 03/07/2021 16:23

Prok I didn't realise they got iron deficiency :)
