Read thread about errands, to do lists and cleaning house etc.
Realised I have fallen at the first hurdle as on my to do list was get family to eat more fresh fruit - giving DD and friends left over trifle for breakfast possibly does not count....Grin

PhloxOfSheep · 05/08/2021 10:42

Ginger I found a lovely hardback copy of The Magic Toyshop by Angela Carter, The Offing by Benjamin Myers, and The Clock Winder by Anne Tyler. Very pleased with that. I only made it to two out of the three charity shops in my town before going to pick the car up though, so I'll find a reason to visit the third sometime soon.

Miss the tyres were Hankooks. Someone told me when I was at uni that if unsure, choose the second cheapest wine from the menu, and the third cheapest tyres for my car. I don't necessarily follow the wine advice, but it's worked out well for tyres so far!

Prok sorry to hear about your daughter. Wishing her a speedy recovery.

Champagneforeveryone · 05/08/2021 11:29

How worrying prok, hope DD feels better soon.

If there was fruit in it then I would definitely count trifle as a win ginger Wink

ChampagneCat is still refusing to sleep on the fleece of treachery. She leaves for prison the cattery at 5pm so I rather admire her spirit Grin

Gingerwarthog · 05/08/2021 13:28

Thank you Champagne. I did add some blueberries to it!
Phlox - googled 'The Offing' and it looks really good. May download! Thanks for the title.
DD and friends mooching around charity shops in town. I am having a hot chocolate and feeling vaguely decadent (thinking about buying posh bath foam).

Champagneforeveryone · 05/08/2021 13:43

Holiday preparation goes on swimmingly here.

I decided that this year I will have a cut off point after which nothing will be my problem. That point was yesterday evening.

DS has no socks washed and DH has lost a non vital key. I meanwhile am serene as a princess, I thoroughly recommend it Wink

ChampagneCat is on suspicion level 9 and DDogs are scatty with anticipation Grin

HelenaJustina · 05/08/2021 17:49

Holiday preparation goes less swimmingly here. DC have opted out (having done their own clothes) and I am killing myself to leave the house clean and tidy for our return. I may switch focus and murder them instead...

Champagneforeveryone · 05/08/2021 18:27

helena, I feel my choice of holiday reading may have had an effect Wink

Silkiecats · 05/08/2021 19:11

I said to DH that DS has a hairdressers appointment at 8.30pm and he said yes and I am taking the cat to the vets at 4.50pm. I said why are you taking the cat to the vets at 4.50pm when her appointment is at 9.30am? Confused He then came back and said yes you are right its 9.30am for her vaccine.

The vet said Silkiecat is very healthy Hmm and gave her a vaccine.

Tonight we are having pancakes. DD was in her hour long shower when it was decided and came out whining I don't want pancakes. I said well have something else then and she said no I will have pancakes but I don't want them.

Silkiecats · 05/08/2021 19:13

The 'very healthy' Silkiecat has just been trying to sunbathe in the rain. At least the thatched roof keeps her dry.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 05/08/2021 19:23

Silkie You obviously failed in providing the sunshine when silkiecat had already done her job by providing the sunbather! Smile

Gingerwarthog · 05/08/2021 19:26

I am a bit in love with the very healthy sunbathing Silkiecat.

Silkiecats · 05/08/2021 19:27

Thankfully for me Silkiecat holds DH responsible for everything though she seemed OK with rainbathing from under a dry thatched roof. So he wasn't in trouble this time. It's the dark she gets cross about with him at the moment.

Silkiecats · 05/08/2021 19:29

Silkiecat is 17 in 2 days, well her guestimated birthday.

Gingerwarthog · 05/08/2021 21:35

Respectable age Silkie and incidentally the same age as Wartycat who has grumbled through his brushing today. He was in heaven today - constant cuddles from three teenage girls.

Silkiecats · 05/08/2021 21:36

Silkiecat has taken the vet seriously and has climbed to the top of a high shelf. DH has said Silkiecat if you can't get down by yourself call me for help and Silkiecat just looked at him of course I can get down.

Silkiecats · 05/08/2021 21:39

That sounds lovely for Wartycat - Silkiecat isn't so kind with teenage girls and would have attacked them, only specially selected people are allowed the privilege of stroking Silkiecat.

Silkiecats · 06/08/2021 00:50

Just heard a crash sounding like Silkiecat falling off the shelf and down the stairs. DH went to check and she appears fine and eating but not the most elegant dismount.

Champagneforeveryone · 06/08/2021 07:47

Apparently it thundered somewhere in the world last night, causing great distress to DDog1 the gundog

Consequently we have had a rather disturbed nights sleep, but at least it's not raining (much!) DS is still in bed but there are sounds that indicate DH is on the move.

The cars are packed and there's just the last few bits to take care of. Given its been over two years since we went away I'm a little hazy on what these "bits" actually are anymore Wink

Gingerwarthog · 06/08/2021 07:53

Champagne - my last 'bits' involve searching for phone chargers, ensuring all devices have been switched off and checking the oven is not on.
Family Warthog take great delight in waiting until I am in the cat then chanting 'Have you checked the oven?' which obviously necessitates me having to do this (again)...
Silkie - Wartycat was laid out like some mediaeval Prince yesterday, having his ears stroked and tummy rubbed while being fed Dreamies. Not selective in the slightest. Glared at me when I entered the teenage lair - how dare I disturb his quality time?
Honestly, in thrall to an elderly cat....

Gingerwarthog · 06/08/2021 07:53

In the car... not in the cat obviously...

Silkiecats · 06/08/2021 08:14

Dh wants a bookcase for his books and has told me to get him one. I asked what size he wanted and he said and I said are you sure that will fit. Yes he replies I measured the height. I said how about the width as we have lots of sloping ceilings etc and it doesn't look like it will fit to me. Oh he said I will measure that as there are lights on the wall then oh it doesn't fit. Hmm I have ordered him one that does fit now.

Squirrel26 · 06/08/2021 12:08

I need a bookcase. I can’t decide where to put it though, and I probably need a narrow one, and I feel that narrow bookcases should be cheaper as I’m getting less space. But this doesn’t seem to be the case. So I’m not making much progress. Grin

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 06/08/2021 12:38

Bookcases never are the right depths - you always get the "hey dust me!" space in front.
DH has 8 book cases in his office. He made them himself and he established the standard book sizes that need to get in before he started to build them. Envy does not come close!
I make do with Kallax and Ivar shelves I use from both sides.

HildaTablet · 06/08/2021 15:13

I've been MIA due to being addicted to the Olympics and glued to the TV. Good to catch up on all the news, and especially the cat talk. Hope your DD is feeling better now, Prok.

DH is very subdued as he's developed a nasty tooth infection and will need a root filling - he's had trouble with the adjacent tooth too and was warned by the dentist that this might indeed happen. He conferred with him by phone and said he didn't need to see him urgently but would send antiobiotics to take for now, and to book an appointment. The medication arrived by post amazingly quickly and DH perked up a lot after just one dose. But it's easily-chewable food for now Sad

Squirrel26 · 06/08/2021 15:14

I’ve got a window seat underneath the living room window (well of course it is…) I feel I should be able to make use of the corner where it meets the far wall, which is next to the TV so no use for anything else. But I can’t work out how; I need a teeny-tiny bookcase.
