I love lily of the valley, reminds me of a lovely great aunt I used to have who would always bake us homemade cakes and make picked cabbage, she would have lots of dried flowers everywhere hanging in bunches, had a beautiful thatched cottage and garden and I was in love with her. She had no children as she was scared of hospitals and doctors and she also refused cancer treatment.

Did lots more cleaning today, kitchen floor, utility floor, corridor, floors upstairs, made 9 bags of rubbish for special collection. Still lots left to do though but getting there. Dd did ukmt. Just had Chinese, had veg chow mein and will watch more Olympics.

Silkiecat loves lavender bath foam. She dips her tail in it and leans in to drink it, so much more interesting than water.

Squirrel26 · 03/08/2021 22:58

There is a mosquito in here. The buzzy little bastard.

Champagneforeveryone · 03/08/2021 23:15

miss valeting here is cleaning, there's very few places in the UK that offer valet parking Wink Apparently my boot was too disgraceful for the option I had chosen

Silkiecats · 04/08/2021 03:04

I said to DH thanks for sending the rabbit's vaccine certificate to the pet hotel. DH said how do you know. I said you cc'd me. He said no I didn't. Then he said oops I sent it to you not the pet hotel so I have now sent it on.

Gingerwarthog · 04/08/2021 07:47

Sunny morning.
Drank coffee outside (with cat).
Opticians later - may make the leap to prescription sunglasses....

Silkiecats · 04/08/2021 07:55

Sunny here too. Silkiecat prefers to drink tea ☕

PhloxOfSheep · 04/08/2021 09:05

Car going in to the garage for new tyres this morning. I'm going to have a wander around the charity shops while I wait. I'm hoping to find a book or three to buy.

Gingerwarthog · 04/08/2021 10:22

Love, love, love charity shop books!
Let us know how you get on Phlox.
Last time I went I got an old classic Mary Stewart 'Airs above the ground'. (Austria, horses, thriller).

Echobelly · 04/08/2021 10:28

Son's birthday - sent him off happily to day camp and going to take him to a restaurant tonight. He chose local Turkish grill which is fine by us, their food is delicious.

I've got all Mary Stewart's books, but that's one of my favourites.
HelenaJustina · 04/08/2021 13:05

@Champagneforeveryone thank you for your appropriate level of indignation on my behalf!

Off uniform shopping with DC starting secondary... deep breaths!

MissConductUS · 04/08/2021 14:44

Happy birthday to your son, @Echobelly! I don't think I've ever been to a Turkish restaurant.

Pholx, what brand of tyres are you having put on? My DH is very particular about his tyres. Smile

I'm currently slogging my way through a hardcover copy of Antony Beavor's 'D-Day', which I recently bought at Goodwill (US second hand chain) for $2.99. I've bought several good books at Goodwill recently. The local library sale was canceled for the second year in a row thanks to covid and construction at the venue so I haven't had a chance to weed out my bookshelves and replace old (library sale) books with new ones. The library sale is up there with Christmas and Hallowe'en on my list of favourite annual events.

I've officially managed to kill yet another lavender plant this summer. My lavender plants die in sun, shade, partial shade, drought and rain. I'm thinking of trying to salvage a cutting or two and starting again because I love lavender.

I also love Marmite.

Champagneforeveryone · 04/08/2021 18:03

ChampagneCat is on high alert. We have nonchalantly placed a piece of VetBed on the end of the bed for her to take with her to the cattery.

Despite never having been to the cattery since we've had her, she is studiously ignoring it and glaring suspiciously whenever DH attempts to coax her onto it Grin

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 04/08/2021 18:14

Uncalm news:
DD phoned me at work crying with pain - extremely unusual for her.
The doctor suspects kidney stones. She's got pain medication and an appointment for bloods and sonography + the advise to urgently look for a specialist for adult adhd for medication because "Nobody ought to be in that much stress and anxiety!" She agreed so it must be bad.

MissConductUS · 04/08/2021 19:15

Prok, I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter's condition. Hopefully she can get the sonography done soon. Give her lots of fluids and if she does pass a stone try to keep it to give to the doctor.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 04/08/2021 19:57

Miss I'll go with her tomorrow for the bloods to make sure she gets - and retains - all the information she needs. We are keeping a look out for a stone and I keep her from googling.

On a more fun note: We started with 3 Brautschleppen (Chlorophytum) in the office and now have about 70. They are everywhere, I have taken 2 home and they already start to take over.

IWanderedLonely · 04/08/2021 20:30

Prok I hope your daughter soon recoversFlowers
I have the Mary Stewart Crystal Cave books. I loved them, not read them for probably 20 years though.

Gingerwarthog · 04/08/2021 20:54

Prok - hope things get better for your daughter.
I had to Google your plant name to realise it is the humble Spider Plant. Fond of these (also peace lilies).
Glad to see the love for Mary Stewart. I thought she might be a guilty pleasure these days. Wandered - yes, May have to re-read The Crystal Cave, also The Moonspinners.

Echobelly · 04/08/2021 21:17

Wishing your daughter better @Prokupatuscrakedatus

I'm stuffed now after the Turkish meal, I think son has had a nice birthday.

I booked a nice restaurant in Lyme Regis for midway between the two places we're staying in for our holiday in the south west at the end of the month. Then realised it's actually within half an hour of the 2nd place we're staying and not half way, so I moved the booking to the next day and that way there's no time pressure of getting A-B given what holiday traffic can be like down there!

Silkiecats · 04/08/2021 21:33

Glad your son had a nice birthday Echo

Hope your DD is better soon Prok

Booked DS into a haircut tomorrow and cat goes to vets for her vaccine tomorrow as well.

Silkiecats · 05/08/2021 00:41

Silkiecat is very cross with DH. Its 0.40am and pitch dark but Silkiecat needs to sunbathe outside now and DH is saying no. Angry Silkiecat.

Gingerwarthog · 05/08/2021 07:54

Raining this morning.
Spent a happy half hour drinking coffee in bed with cat curled in beside me (re-reading 'Airs above the ground.'
Made chocolate sponge yesterday with buttercream icing in the middle.

Squirrel26 · 05/08/2021 09:55

Kidney stones are bloody painful, no wonder she’s stressed and anxious!

Came across a man in high vis on my way to make a coffee. He was stepping out of a door in the wall (I know all doors are in walls, but this is a mysterious door that presumably leads to the inner workings of the building). Wonder if he lives in there?

HelenaJustina · 05/08/2021 10:10

DC’s physio appointment is tomorrow, not today. We found out this on arrival. This is DH’s fault as he made the booking phone call and wrote it on the calendar. We can’t do tomorrow as will be at a funeral 3 hours away. DC is sad as next available appointment is September. I am cross with DH.
