I waited til in between downpours and went and washed the worst of the dirt off my little car - a combination of sticky tree sap and barbecue soit meant it wasn’t exactly white any more. It’s not perfect but it should be enough to stop colleagues commenting on it in the work car park until I can get it properly valeted!

Nydj · 01/08/2021 16:32

I managed to stay dry on my walk today despite forecast of downpours. I have almost caught up with the recorded episodes of Gardeners worked, donated basil from the garden to my neighbour and sown some more coriander. I also got attacked by the rose that I moved last year and has done nothing but grow a few small leaves this year. I was trying to nurture it with some slow release rose food. Apart from being attacked by the rose, I am having a nice relaxing day.

Nydj · 01/08/2021 16:33

Gardeners world not worked! Also apologies for the avalanche of ‘I’ in that last post.

MissConductUS · 01/08/2021 19:01

No word from DS, we are hoping he's on the road by now as it's at least a four hour drive from Boston.

I went through a bunch of old papers. Some went into the shredder, most went into the recycling. I found tax documents from 2011. 😁

We had a sudden shower of rain and an absolutely lovely and very clear rainbow.

A local workshop is restarting their sewing courses - with my vacc. document and DD's official 'test for the day' and an FFP2 mask each we are set to go. Yay!

Squirrel26 · 01/08/2021 20:25

Olympic highlights program is going on about golf. I'm not a fan of golf so I wish they'd move on. I'd rather hear about eventing, given that GB are currently in first place.

Might have some cake.

MissConductUS · 01/08/2021 21:04

Great news about the sewing lessons, Prok. My daughter took them and got really good at it.

Squirrel, I share your disinterest in golf. What's eventing?

DS has texted that he's on his way. We may see him by 7:00. Dinner plans are uncertain as it's raining on and off. DD has gone to the mall with some friends at uni so we've rescheduled our Zoom call until 6:00.

Had fantastic chocolate ice cream with toffee sauce.
Bought souvenirs and gifts from beach shop ( fudge in a box with a view of the bay).
Cold water swimming with hot showers after!

Squirrel26 · 01/08/2021 22:31

@MissConductUS eventing is an equestrian competition involving dressage, cross country jumping and showjumping. It’s kind of like triathlon with more horses and less swimming. Grin

GB are currently in team and individual first place with one element (showjumping) to go tomorrow. The US team is in 5th. There are 3 riders on each team and each of their scores count, so there’s lots of potential for moving up and down the leaderboard.

It’s way more exciting than golf. Grin

MissConductUS · 01/08/2021 23:23

Thank you for the explanation, @Squirrel26, that does sound way more exciting than golf.

DS was stuck in traffic in Hartford so we may not see him until 8:00. We'll have to get a takeaway. It's still raining too.

Sue One side is dark red, one brown / black, it is quite the look.

I have done lots more cleaning, about 5 hours of cleaning, have now had a bath and feel worn out. Far more time than I wanted was spent picking up the balls from a bean bag with holes in that rabbit had bitten through and DH brought upstairs trailing beanbag filling everywhere. And its a 6 foot bean bag. Went through some old clothes and sorted ones to keep and ones we don't need. Washed our bedding.

DD met up with friends from her new school.

MissConductUS · 02/08/2021 01:04

DS is home safely, had a very nice weekend away with his mates and is now taking a shower. DH is leaving shortly to pick up takeaway from our favorite nice restaurant. The texmex place was already closed for the night.

Silkiecats · 02/08/2021 05:05

Glad he is back safely MissC and hope you had a nice takeaway.

We had a curry which was supposed to be mild but it was superhot, too hot for me, it was one from Co-op. The cat was very happy with the chicken, she has been known to eat from plates of leftover curry then have a shocked look 30 secs later but goes back for more.

Now watching the Olympics gymnastics on Discovery, love their coverage as you can choose what you watch so I am permanently on the artistic Olympics channel.

Silkiecats · 02/08/2021 05:07

I paid for the council to collect an extra 9 sacks of rubbish which I will aim to make on Tuesday as they are collecting on Wed at 6am. DH and I had a very interesting discussion of exactly what to do for getting the 9 sacks but we now have an agreed strategy for me to do.

Champagneforeveryone · 02/08/2021 09:29

I had a disappointing takeaway last night. DH and I went out "on the toot" and picked up a Chinese before we got the taxi home.

It was not our normal Chinese and twelve hours later I am still haunted by the injustice of it.

PhloxOfSheep · 02/08/2021 11:52

I've been absent for a week as things got busy. Neither dull nor exciting though.
I've enjoyed reading through to catch up. I had to look up washbears and derecho. I like that I learn new things from here due to the international nature of the posters.

I have quite a few dull jobs to be getting on with this week: my mortgage interest rate expires soon so I need to pick a new one; I need to alter a carpet quote from John Lewis because we've changed our minds about something; I need two new tyres on my car; and I need to order some blinds for the dining room.

Champagneforeveryone · 02/08/2021 12:21

I have just bought some part baked rolls to take on holiday. I'm now about to check my tyre pressures. I have explained to learner driver DS the British institution of having ones car cleaned before going on holiday. Being a young progressive he will take some persuasion.

The roller coaster of my life continues at speed Wink

HelenaJustina · 02/08/2021 15:52

I was supposed to be on site for some installers this afternoon, we were given a PM slot. I had a phone call at 7.40am informing me that the team were 30 minutes away. This necessitated a speedy turnaround of my day. Finally got home at 2pm.

Nydj · 02/08/2021 15:56

I’m pleased your DS had a good weekend @MissConductUS and has returned home safely. It was sunny and hot on my walk today and now a bit overcast.

MissConductUS · 02/08/2021 16:07

Champagne, where are you going on holiday and when do you leave? Are the part baked rolls frozen? My mum used to buy those.

Helena, does this mean that you now have some unplanned free time this afternoon?

Thanks, Nydj, we are pleased too. It was rather a rude first taste of what the empty nest is going to feel like. We've gotten so used to having him home.

Gingerwarthog · 02/08/2021 17:10

Back home.
Have completed three lots of washing, put out the bins, bought batteries, milk, self raising flour and sugar. Planning to make a rhubarb crumble and watch Blue Planet this evening.
Cat delighted we're home.

Champagneforeveryone · 02/08/2021 18:05

Glad you're home safely ginger. ChampagneCat is going to the cattery for the first time ever while we are away Confused

miss we are canal boating in the rain and pretending that we don't actually mind not being in India. We're taking DDogs as well, spending the first night in a hotel. Given DDog2's hysterical attitude to much of life I'm apprehensive that it will be the restful start to the holiday we were hoping for Wink

MissConductUS · 02/08/2021 18:30

Champagne, forgive me. You mentioned the canal boat previously. Is India a regular holiday destination for you?

I'm having an absolutely delicious leftover lobster roll for lunch. The celery in the lobster salad is still crunchy.

OP posts:
Champagneforeveryone · 02/08/2021 18:45

Very jealous of your lobster roll miss Envy

No, never been to India before. It was our "once in a lifetime" family holiday as I suspect DS will have no desire to holiday with us next year. Fortunately we cancelled in January as I had an iffy feeling about India long term, and we managed to book in the UK (which is almost impossible ATM)

In other holiday news, DDog2 has a new special holiday collar so she looks like someone actually owns her rather than a flea bitten stray

HelenaJustina · 02/08/2021 19:25

DH is desperate to go on a canal holiday. I am so far resisting as I’m concerned it will be like camping but on water... so let me know how it pans out! I think we need DC to be a bit older and need less ‘exercising like puppies’ and to be more ready to read books and relax and watch the world go by.

Miss I had some unexpected free time this afternoon but the unexpected early start kind of cancelled it out! One DC was still in pyjamas when I got home and no one had eaten lunch so there was some catching up to do.

It has been threatening to pour down all day. It is now doing so and DH needs to go and walk the dog. This is amusing me because I’m dry and childish
