I’m trying a really odd diet and hope it works

So, with the lockdown and stress and being with DH, I slowly started eating more sugar and bread. And wine.

I feel I could do with losing 3 kgs and detoxing my body. But I have no motivation to diet. I really don’t.

I couldn’t keep up with 16:8, 5:2 or calorie counting.

So I did a random search on the net hoping for a miracle, easy solution.

And I found this somewhat wacky diet I am trying out. I’m only in the second day. Five more to go!

First day was unlimited fruit (but only one variety). I slipped up in the morning and had a croissant and a sweet. But then stuck with watermelon all day. And took a brisk walk.

Today is veg in any form. Had tomato soup and beetroot salad. I’m feeling a tiny bit hungry. But much better than yesterday.

I feel less foggy and bloated. I can’t wait for tomorrow when I can have fruit And veg (except for potatoes and bananas). 😃

So 'veg in any form' - are you including potatoes in that?

It sounds unsustainable and very boring, tbh!

Polkadots2021 · 24/06/2021 14:14

OP you unintentionally made me laugh. Please will you keep us updated? I'm looking forward to the next weird and wonderful combinations that come next...

steelseries · 24/06/2021 14:16

Aren't tomatoes technically fruit? So you've had fruit soup for lunch on a veg day?!

No potatoes. Well, according to the diet I was supposed to have a medium potato with a tea spoon of butter in the morning. But DH ate all the boiled potatoes so I just skipped that.

I had some cod liver oil instead.

Other than that no taters.

It is boring! But easy too. No shopping, no decisions, no calorie counting and I can graze all day. On veg

Happy to keep you updated and it will keep me on the straight and narrow. Couldn’t face telling you all that I could t do it 😃

Oops on the tomato soup, my bad! Luckily dh ate/drank half of my diet tomato soup so I didn’t mess up too much.

I have another watermelon waiting for tomorrow and cherries. I can have multiple fruit tomorrow along with veg (just no banana and potatoes). So tomato soup is back on the menu too!

Nope tomatoes are veg. There is a subcategory of veg called 'fruit' (another is roots etc) though which includes tomatoes, I think avocados too as well as several others! That's what I remember from my home ec classes anyway :)!!)

Isn’t a croissant enough to invalidate the first day? Assuming it’s meant to be a form of detox? You did say something about cutting carbs, right? Grin

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 24/06/2021 14:40

Unless you have liver failure and none-functioning kidneys, there is no reason to detox.

This diet sounds bonkers. And really unsustainable in the long term.

MistySkiesAfterRain · 24/06/2021 14:40

So its kinda like a detox but with the added interest factor of being different every day. Sounds like a good kickstart to Healthy eating, but entirely unsustainable, but hopefully at the end of it you can transition to a healthy varied diet.

I've been eating healthy for 10 days now, by which I mean entering it all into my fitness pal, hitting all nutritional targets, balanced macros, 1600 cals, felt great and lost 2 lbs then explicably could not focus at all.

Im on a med that lowers sodium and think thats what happened. Binged on crisps and felt way way better. Back on healthy again.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 24/06/2021 14:44

You couldn't keep up with eating normal foods just cutting back bit you will be able to keep up with that?

DaisyDreaming · 24/06/2021 15:02

That will work short term as your eating less calories. If you switch a croissant for breakfast for fruit it will make you lose weight but not due to only having a certain type of fruit that day and a certain veg the next day. If you’re happy then that’s fine though

Taoneusa · 24/06/2021 15:09

Have you got a link you could share to this ‘somewhat wacky’diet, please? I like the sound of it!

No they're not. They're literally the ovum of a flowering plant, containing seeds.

A vegetable is an edible part of the plant that isn't its fruit. So- leaves, stalks and roots.

Tomato's, peppers, aubergine, avocado, pumpkin etc are all fruit. Rhubarb is technically a vegetable, even though it's eaten like a fruit.

This is hilarious. It’s like the comments section under the recipes on the bbc good food website

“Did not have celeriac so substituted with pecans and I don’t like cream so added orange juice and wafers instead, also threw in some ras el hanout as it was about to go out of date, it was a bit thick so i halved the amount of flour and used potato wedges instead, ignored the suggestion to serve with rice as I am doing low carb so had it alongside scrambled egg and truffle shavings. Recommended, would make again but next time wouldn’t have it for dessert”

PurpleDaisies · 24/06/2021 15:21

Where is this diet from?

I might make up my own. I’m thinking a week. Only red food on Monday. Yellow food on Tuesday. Pink on weds…

minty133 · 24/06/2021 15:28

So is Day 4 fish day? Day 5 meat day? What do you do after the five days are up?

Red wine on a Monday would do quite nicely Grin

Sorry 7 days, didn't read OP properly

minty133 · 24/06/2021 15:29

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 24/06/2021 15:30

@RickiTarr, I thought I wouldn’t be able to give up on my breakfast bread, so I would just work around that.

I told DH last night that I’d have my usual brioche with coffee in the morning. But when it came to this morning, I didn’t feel like it!

I just had coffee and he had both slices of brioche. He told he he felt a bit sick after.

I’ve had loads of veggies and feel fine. I haven’t had to shop for anything special. It is a low cost and easy diet and I can eat as much as I want. And I don't have to cook anything much so a bit of a kitchen holiday.

And after seven days I’ll probably lose some of the cravings and reset my body somewhat.

For those asking what diet it is, it is the GM (General Motors diet).

Gorgeouslilgirl · 24/06/2021 15:36

😂

Each day so special
Day 1 - Fruit day (but only one type of fruit if your choice). So easy and no decision fatigue
Day 2 - all veg except potatoes (can have one in the morning). A bit harder as this veg or fruit debate here illustrates.
Day 3 - fruits and veg. So easy again!
Day 4 - is jackpot. Six big bananas and milk. I’ll have yogurt instead. Maybe some cream too.

Day 5- unlimited eggs and 6 tomatoes

Thank you OP for this thread. I have had the best laugh for a long time!!
Btw, if anyone is interested, have a look at the Beverley Hills Diet. It is similar to this GM diet.
