I’m trying a really odd diet and hope it works

So, with the lockdown and stress and being with DH, I slowly started eating more sugar and bread. And wine.

I feel I could do with losing 3 kgs and detoxing my body. But I have no motivation to diet. I really don’t.

I couldn’t keep up with 16:8, 5:2 or calorie counting.

So I did a random search on the net hoping for a miracle, easy solution.

And I found this somewhat wacky diet I am trying out. I’m only in the second day. Five more to go!

First day was unlimited fruit (but only one variety). I slipped up in the morning and had a croissant and a sweet. But then stuck with watermelon all day. And took a brisk walk.

Today is veg in any form. Had tomato soup and beetroot salad. I’m feeling a tiny bit hungry. But much better than yesterday.

I feel less foggy and bloated. I can’t wait for tomorrow when I can have fruit And veg (except for potatoes and bananas). 😃

@greedymum

I didn't do the vegetarian version so one of the days was only beef and tomato, brilliant!
Wouldn’t the veggie version have just been beef tomatoes?
DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 24/06/2021 18:14

I'm still giggling at the thought of "unlimited eggs" It reminds me of that scene in the film "Cool Hand Luke" where he eats a whole jar of pickled eggs.
I've skimmed the thread a bit but who is the dictator who made up this diet?
It sounds like one of those diets in my mother's Womans Own mags from the 80s. The ones that seemed to want dieters to jump through various hoops and were made of up inexplicable rules. What happens when certain fruits are out of season?
Sorry OP. I'm not having a pop at you, just the strange diet rules.
I hope you find a food plan you can stick to and enjoy and are taking plenty of vit supplements.

@Gorgeouslilgirl I don't want to be a bad influence on anyone but i genuinely lost 7 or 8lb each time I have done it. Put back on eventually because I can't stay away from chocolate!

Sounds similar to the cabbage soup diet that was doing the rounds 20+ years ago, minus the cabbage soup. My friend and I tried it when at Uni. We didn’t end up eating any of the soup, and I had vivid dreams about bread after the second day! Grin I think we gave up after 5 days.

Day 1: You can eat as much fruit as you want (except bananas) along with unlimited cabbage soup, water and unsweetened tea and coffee.

Day 2: Avoid fruit but eat raw veg and cabbage soup. You’re allowed a baked potato in the evening.

Day 3: As much cabbage soup, fruit and vegetables as you like (excluding potatoes and bananas).

Day 4: Unlimited cabbage soup. You can drink some skimmed milk and eat up to eight bananas.

Day 5: Lots of cabbage soup and 565g of beef and six tomatoes. Makes sure you drink 6-8 glasses of water.

Day 6: As much cabbage soup, beef and vegetables as you like (excluding potatoes).

Day 7: Unlimited cabbage soup, a little brown rice and sugar-free fruit juice.

Yes-because it’s effectively a very low calorie diet for a week. There’s no science in what’s in each day.

Greenrubber · 24/06/2021 18:17

This is brilliant
Place marking

greedymum · 24/06/2021 18:20

@PurpleDaisies Grin to the beef tomato

And yes I know it's v low calorie and nothing clever but it's kind of a challenge to see if you can stick to the rules

bringadish · 24/06/2021 18:21

Argh, your DH is doing my head in.

How do you live with him?

Why not challenge yourself to stick to a proper balanced healthy diet instead which will be worth keeping for the long term? I realised that’s not as amusing as just eating eggs for a day.

Gosh, that’s amazing. Did it stay off for a reasonable while?

I don’t mind doing a diet every so often. To counter my patisserie habits 😃

I'm loving this thread! I can see why it appeals as it's easier to cut (nearly) everything out for a few days to kick start the weight loss. I can't be arsed with calorie counting or cutting down so I eat once a day in the early evening and nothing apart from water, black tea and coffee the rest of the time. I've lost a stone, feel fit and energised and no longer feel hungry during the day. The one meal has loads of veg, fruit, protein and as much carbohydrates as I fancy. I've been doing it for 4 weeks and am happy to continue for a few more weeks (wouldn't be able to do it in the winter). So, I get fed once a day - woof woof! Good luck OP but I'd go easy on the eggs.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 24/06/2021 18:24

@PurpleDaisies it doesn't have fibre, or more than you'd expect?

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 24/06/2021 18:25

@Kentuki

This is hilarious. It’s like the comments section under the recipes on the bbc good food website

“Did not have celeriac so substituted with pecans and I don’t like cream so added orange juice and wafers instead, also threw in some ras el hanout as it was about to go out of date, it was a bit thick so i halved the amount of flour and used potato wedges instead, ignored the suggestion to serve with rice as I am doing low carb so had it alongside scrambled egg and truffle shavings. Recommended, would make again but next time wouldn’t have it for dessert”

🤣🤣🤣
PurpleDaisies · 24/06/2021 18:25
@PurpleDaisies it doesn't have fibre, or more than you'd expect?
Both!
0.4g per 100g

I guess technically it has some fibre so if you expected it to have none that would be more than none!

greedymum · 24/06/2021 18:25

@Gorgeouslilgirl it did stay off for a while, I think after the week I had paused my snacking habit and i just ate sensibly, it was like a reset

bishbashbosh99 · 24/06/2021 18:25

You are really rubbish at this diet, that's what's cracking me up the most 🤣🤣

ZeroFuchsGiven · 24/06/2021 18:32

Ive just googled and it looks like it is the cabbage soup diet Grin

It also allows followers to consume two to three bowls of “GM Wonder Soup” each day. It’s made with cabbage, celery, tomatoes, onions and bell peppers.

Sidge · 24/06/2021 19:13

@SticksAndStoned

Of course potatoes are a vegetable.

Just because low carb diets don't allow them, while they allow other vegetables, doesn't suddenly turn a potato into a rock...

Botanically they’re a vegetable but nutritionally they’re a carbohydrate.

Can’t be counted as part of your 5 (or 10) a day.

FolornLawn · 24/06/2021 19:13

@Noapplejustcrumble

I did a bonkers diet a few years ago called the James Duncan Diet. Was mainly grapefruit, eggs, meat and fruit. Whole plates of fruit for lunch, and lamb chops with grapefruit for dinner. Can't look at a grapefruit any more.
I love all those things.
Gorgeouslilgirl · 24/06/2021 19:13

@bishbashbosh99

I am pretty rubbish at it 😂

I haven’t dieted for ages. I usually eat reasonably well. And have done intermittent fasting when I used to go into office. Not because I planned it, but the commute and morning meetings meant I had a late and (healthy) breakfast, eg picked up boiled eggs or something.

With wfh, DH and I have a coffee in the morning together (and he usually picks up something nice from the bakery), I’m cooking all meals at home and making simpler carby stuff, we have a snacks cupboard which I used to resist, but now we often have a glass of wine and some crisps after work as there is no commute and it marks the end of the day. I am eating differently and more than I used to.

Added to that I had a really stressful few weeks at work. And I’m peri menopausal.

So it is so easy to put on weight without noticing it. But very hard to lose and re-set.

So hopefully, even if I am not all that in hitting diet targets, I’ll still feel a bit lighter after?

@Gorgeouslilgirl

Well, there was a bit of a wobble today regarding tomato soup. And whether it is a fruit or a veg.

But that was it! No food decisions at all!

Did you make the tomato soup? Because if it was a tinned soup then I very much doubt it should have been included in this 'diet'
BewareTheBeardedDragon · 24/06/2021 19:25

Apologies - didn't rtft before posting Blush

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 24/06/2021 19:32

OP - I recommend reading The Diet Myth by Tim Spector. Personally I would be worried rather than encouraged that another poster has had to do it multiple times and regained the weight each time.

3Britnee · 24/06/2021 20:06

@Kanaloa

Why does it change every day? And why does it have to be just one fruit? Unlimited eggs and six tomatoes… it’s just so weird. It’s fine for a week, despite being bonkers, but I wouldn’t keep it up long term. I don’t think it’s a good idea to eat only watermelon then six bananas and milk/yogurt then unlimited eggs.

Wouldn’t it work just to eat normally? If you spread your unlimited eggs from one day and your veg from the other days across the week you could eat an omelette and salad every day. And over the week you’d consume the same calories, but would be eating a normal meal daily.

This diet is like the military diet. Apparently that works because of some weird chemical reaction in your body. Fuck knows what. So if this diet does actually have any real effect, from anything other than lower calories, it might be that.

Although, when I followed the military diet, to the absolute letter, it didn't work for me. I didn't lose a thing.
