Where in West Yorkshire is posh?

Moving to this area but have a fairly wide area to choose from. We need to have a clear run in the mornings to Sheffield for work so want to avoid the A1 (which is why North Yorkshire is out) so it looks like the M1 South and possibly the M62 is best. Work journey is currently 45 minutes and I don't want it longer. South yorks is out too because we have family in Wakefield.

Want a nice smallish village with lots of countryside, but not too far out in the sticks. Good senior school and nice standard of living. Leeds is too big and road networks too busy in the mornings.

We have £800K + available for the house. Thanks x

My friend's parents live in Dore and that's quite posh not sure if it's villagey enough for you though. I know nothing about Yorkshire I've just visited them a few times

As soon as I read the title I had to eye roll 🙄

VaguelyInteresting · 19/06/2021 11:54

You sound like you’d fit in well in Ilkley.

SunshineSum · 19/06/2021 11:55

Dewsbury.

What exactly do you mean by 'posh' OP? Miles away from a council estate? No neighbours with broad accents? All the houses have indoor plumbing?

SunshineSum · 19/06/2021 12:00

Work in Sheffield? Just live in Sheffield!

SunshineSum · 19/06/2021 12:04

Sorry OP only joking.

This is quite posh but might be over budget:

Spandang · 19/06/2021 12:05

Holmfirth is lovely, Meltham I actually really liked.

EShellstrop · 19/06/2021 12:07

Harrogate, Ripon and Thirsk are all nice, tho check out flood risks if looking at houses in and around Thirsk.

Thecatisboss · 19/06/2021 12:08

M62 is basically a car park at commuter time. I would be very dubious about a commute including it.

Posh bits of South Yorkshire.....

Well you could look at Cawthorne near Barnsley and Penistone and the villages near it. Penistone Grammar school gets the best results in Barnsley.

Hoppinggreen · 19/06/2021 12:10

Believe it or not there are some quite posh parts of Huddersfield
Of course the Town centre is a dive but my dc go to Private school and some of their friends live in vair posh (usually rural) areas in huge houses
And for your budget you should get something nice, plus you ate by far from Leeds or Manchester for work and leisure

Hoppinggreen · 19/06/2021 12:11

And DH used to commute to Sheffield daily from here

Maireas · 19/06/2021 12:14

If you work in Sheffield, why not live there?
Not posh enough?

TheDevils · 19/06/2021 12:17

TheDevils · 19/06/2021 12:18

Not technically West Yorkshire anymore (although depends who you ask!) but Saddleworth might be a good shout and you can commute to Sheffield without going near the M62.

whiteroseredrose · 19/06/2021 12:18

DH used to work in Sheffield and has recommended a place called Ringinglow. Not sure about schools though.

THisbackwithavengeance · 19/06/2021 12:19

You could buy something gorgeous in the Peaks for that and not be too far from Sheffield.

I would avoid anything that might involve an M62 commute.

Otherwise: Ilkley, Harrogate, Otley.

What a disappointment. A gorgeous stone house, but what a dull, samey, bland interior!
