OK sorry to be goady but I know no one in rl who uses these most people have never heard of them and when they do they turn their noses up and would never want to use such a thing. Obviously great for those that do use it very green and eco friendly well done you but I cannot begin to contemplate using one I have super heavy periods low in iron because of and having to empty and wash that out getting covered in blood especially in public loos well... Why the hell would you far too much of a palaver if u ask me. Did buy some period pants but that's only so if leak it doesn't go everywhere but haven't even used those either.

Nope, you're absolutely right, every single woman in the world is viscerally disgusted by them. And they're probably made by lizards with mind-control devices.

Happy now?

PiggyPlumPie · 10/06/2021 15:32

Got mine in now! But I have fairly light periods just lots of them - more frequently than the 28 day cycle. Perfect for me.

GappyValley · 10/06/2021 15:33

Pretty much all of my friends use them

I also have super heavy periods and they are the only thing that doesn’t leak

They are very easy to empty and I’ve never got blood on my hands
Not sure why you think you would, unless you end up with blood all over your hands with a tampon, in which case it would be the same

To be honest, as a mooncup user, I don't exactly go around announcing it to everyone I know.

You can put them in in the morning at home and take them out at night at home. You don't have to constantly change them like pads and tampons and they do larger and smaller ones for people who are heavier/lighter.

I always have baby wipes and the spare one with me just in case, but in my 8 years of using them I am yet to have to fish one out in a public bathroom.

FourTeaFallOut · 10/06/2021 15:33

How do you think these companies are managing to stay afloat if no one uses them?

soberfabulous · 10/06/2021 15:33

I love mine and everyone in my friendship and work group now uses one too.

I have heavy periods and need to change frequently on day one which can be challenging if at work. But I still absolutely love it. Tampons always felt painful to me and on my heaviest days I would change them every hour.

PinkSkiesAtNight · 10/06/2021 15:34

I have one and haven't even looked at a tampon/towel since I started using it about 3 years ago. On heavier days I just change it more regularly. But even that is only morning, afternoon and bedtime. It's a bit messy but you get used to it!

MoreHairyThanScary · 10/06/2021 15:35

Use mine and just got one for my dd1 ( at her request) like others tend not to announce to the world but best thing I ever bought had mine probably 8 years or so ( just renewed it) saved me loads and loads ( and the planet too!)

TheMarzipanDildo · 10/06/2021 15:35

I have one, as does my flatmate (who is a twenty year old student and definitely not on mumsnet). You don’t have to use them though OP, no ones making you!

Justmuddlingalong · 10/06/2021 15:35

Don't knock it til you've tried it. And your apology about being goady sounds a bit hollow.

Fnib · 10/06/2021 15:35

Yes, I used to use one (am past it now) Brilliant for sport because they don't move.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 10/06/2021 15:35

Covered in blood?!
You tip it down the toilet, not over your clothes.

Orf1abc · 10/06/2021 15:35

I have heavy periods and find it better for avoiding leakage than anything else. Also I get less pain when I use one. Perhaps don't knock it until you've tried it?

JofraArchersFastestBall · 10/06/2021 15:36

I love mine - and think it's the cleanest and most convenient option for me.

Most of my friends use reusable sanitary protection in one form or another.

Erikrie · 10/06/2021 15:36

Yes I use them. They're brilliant.

Tibtab · 10/06/2021 15:37

I use one, I have heavy periods. I only change them when I’m out if there is a self-contained cubicle with a sink. I wear a pad for the heavy days in case of leaks.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 10/06/2021 15:37

I and many of my friends use them.
They’re great. And they hold more than a pad or tampon, so better for heavy periods, I’d have thought.

BogRollBOGOF · 10/06/2021 15:38

I find them less messy than tampons as they're easier to control. Plus no more thrush Grin

I mainly use cloth pads, but my mooncup gets a decent amount of use.

My flows are lighter than they were pre-children but I'd still rather use reusable products for comfort and practicality even if I did have to change more frequently through the day.

Muddydoor · 10/06/2021 15:38

Genuine question, if you have to wash them between uses, what stops the blood flow while you are doing this?

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 10/06/2021 15:38

I don't know anyone irl that uses them, but everyone on mn does.

massistar · 10/06/2021 15:39

I've been using one for a few years now and only wish I'd discovered them years ago. I empty it morning and night. I don't have particularly heavy periods but it's been such a godsend when I've been at all day festivals and stuff where you'd be changing a tampon in a portaloo otherwise. Envy

feelabitguilty · 10/06/2021 15:40

I would love to use them but can’t even get a tampon in there without difficulty (I might be the only person I know who got the applicator physically stuck to me somehow) - so think a mooncup is definitely out of the question !

OhToBeASeahorse · 10/06/2021 15:40

Er... ok...

I use one. I'm real, I think

LongIslandIcedT · 10/06/2021 15:40

I've had them for 15yrs. No one would know as it's not something I announce. I find it far cleaner than using pads or tampons.

CoffeeWithMyOxygen · 10/06/2021 15:40

I’ve used one for years! Back it up with period pants on heavy days. There’s absolutely no reason to trash the Earth once a month.
