OK sorry to be goady but I know no one in rl who uses these most people have never heard of them and when they do they turn their noses up and would never want to use such a thing. Obviously great for those that do use it very green and eco friendly well done you but I cannot begin to contemplate using one I have super heavy periods low in iron because of and having to empty and wash that out getting covered in blood especially in public loos well... Why the hell would you far too much of a palaver if u ask me. Did buy some period pants but that's only so if leak it doesn't go everywhere but haven't even used those either.

@MaMelon

I have a very high / pronounced pubic bone, so I have to collapse the cup a little when removing otherwise it really scrapes over the bone and it hurts! Took some practice but I just fold it a little to collapse the wire.

Op - for me I’m loving the fact that in the last five years I haven’t produced a single bit of period- related waste to get shoved in landfill or incinerated, nothing that can’t just be washed away.

Have any of you found it really pulled your cervix down when trying to remove it as they are now being linked with possibly causing prolapse?

Crowsaregreat · 21/07/2021 13:29

I bought my first mooncup in 2006. I've only used disposables since when dealing with the deluge after giving birth.

I find the idea of disposables rank - plastic next to your genitals, the disinfectant smell they put on them, the revolting sanitary bins that stink. The thought of a huge pile of landfill soaked in your rotting menses somewhere.

Each to their own though, I guess! It's not like women have to reach consensus on one form of period product.

Pomalade · 21/07/2021 13:37

I don't get on with mooncups at all, I use period pants and reusable pads instead.

LH1987 · 21/07/2021 14:09

The concept of them has grossed me out a little bit but having read the thread I will rethink and look into it

You need to release the suction first, it is not doing this that causes problems.

I never will but know lots of people younger than me who do. Wish I could but it took me long enough to grasp the tampon

mrstea301 · 21/07/2021 14:22

I have tried a couple of times with a moon cup but I just couldn't get the hang of it at all!! I use reusable sanitary towels and dame tampons just now. Would try again in the future but just couldn't work it out and was admittedly short on patience when I was trying!

FelicityBeedle · 21/07/2021 14:32

I always say mine is the best thing I ever bought. Been using it for almost ten years now. Fair enough if you don’t get on with it but they’re definitely worth trying. Feels much cleaner than fibre shedding tampons or horrible pads sitting in your own blood (in my opinion obvs)

FWIW I don’t rinse mine out unless I’m at home, if I need to empty it out and about (very rare) I just give it a wipe with loo roll
