What do you your family have at McDonalds?

Please note - I know lots of MN would never dream of feeding their kids McDonalds, but we do, occasionally!

Half term is coming up and DD wants a happy meal for the Pokémon cards (and the nuggets!). She's 8, and last time we went it felt like the happy meal wasn't really enough food. She is, granted, a very, VERY tall girl (in size 11-12 😭).

What do your 8 year olds eat there? And just cos I'm nosey, what do you have?

Me -
-Big tasty without bacon - my favourite but you need a big appetite as it is 800 calories and very filling!
-Big Mac
-Filet of fish
-chicken selects.

DCs
-nuggets
-cheese burger
-chicken selects

Both of them abadoned happy meals about the age of 7 and 8 also as it was not enough food. I have on occasion bought them a happy meal for whatever toy it is then a sharing box of nuggets to beef it up. (Both my Dcs are very very slim, just to say).

DH- coffee only as he is a very health conscious vegetarian and the veggie deluxe is awful (although tbf not tried now for years).

Big fan of McDonalds.

When ds was 10, he started having the regular meals as a happy meal wasn't enough. He was quite small for 10 so probably the same size as your 8 year old. He would usually get a six nugget meal and I usually get a quarter pounder meal with a strawberry milkshake

Chemenger · 27/05/2021 17:48

No kids but I always have the sweet chilli chicken wrap with fries and coke. It has lettuce and cucumber in it so it’s practically a salad Smile

JorisBonson · 27/05/2021 17:48

DH and I always have a 20 nugget box on long car journeys.

My ultimate weakness is a big Mac 🤤

Vodkabulary · 27/05/2021 17:49

My DS1 is very tall (in size 10-11 at 8yrs) he’s just turned 9 but we abandoned happy meals for him when he was about 8 he likes a triple cheese burger and chips with a milkshake

MrsPnut · 27/05/2021 17:50

Dd2 is 14 and she has a double cheeseburger and a McFlurry. She does sometimes get some chicken nuggets instead of the burger.

neroforte · 27/05/2021 17:50

son is only a baby so nothing yet, but i get -
big mac
mozzarella sticks
diet coke

noloh1 · 27/05/2021 17:51

My DS is 9 and he normally has a chicken sandwich meal. I love the chicken nuggets but don’t feel it’s big enough on its own, so I normally get a chicken legend or a Big Mac, with some nuggets on the side Smile

elp30 · 27/05/2021 17:52

I don't eat at McDonald's often. It's not because I'm against it but because other fast food burger joints are closer to me.

I am a bit "old school" and love a Big Mac or a Quarter Pounder with cheese. Sometimes a pack of nuggets hits the spot. I love their caramel ice cream sundaes with peanuts sprinkled on top.

Mmm. I think I'll make the effort and go there today.

Ohdoleavemealone · 27/05/2021 17:53

My 8 ye old has a double cheeseburger with no cheese and medium fries

motogogo · 27/05/2021 17:53

My dd has a happy meal with veggie nuggets, she's 22! I like a Big Mac

AgeLikeWine · 27/05/2021 17:54

Breakfast is the only time I go to McD’s and my usual order is a sausage & egg muffin and a large cappuccino. Unless I’m very hung over, I get the fruit bag instead of the hash brown. Halo

reallyisthisallthereis · 27/05/2021 17:57

Also old school. Quarter pounder with cheese meal. Occasionally throw it in an apple pie. My 11 year old likes their wraps

Flowerclock · 27/05/2021 17:59

I'm not a big Maccies fan TBH. But the kids and DH love it. I don't want to be 'that poster' but a cheeseburger and chips in a happy meal is about 400 calories, so personally I think that's plenty for 8YO DS. I tend to get a happy meal myself if we go. I used to like Quarter Pounder with cheese or 5 chicken selects, but I am a fat fucker now so need to lay off them.

I much prefer Burger King (where I would happily wolf down a Bacon Double Cheese XL meal) or Five Guys. Or Domino's or KFC.

Are they doing the Pokemon cards at the moment? Cos my DS loves them!

BrownEyedGirl80 · 27/05/2021 17:59

I have just discovered the Holy grail.
Quarter pounder with cheese with Big mac sauce instead of ketchup and mustard 😋 big fat non messy big mac.

Ds 7 has plain cheeseburger happy meal

Flowerclock · 27/05/2021 18:00

@reallyisthisallthereis do they still do the Pies?! I haven't seen them since we went to America!!

Pascha · 27/05/2021 18:01

Ds1(10) abandoned happy meals at about 8yo too. His go-to now is 6 chicken nuggets, medium fries and a bottle of milk.

Ds2(8) has just graduated from happy meal to a plain cheeseburger, medium fries and orange juice.

Neither of them vary the order at all.

OlivePenderghast · 27/05/2021 18:03

No children but I like a chicken select meal. My favourite is a double bacon and egg McMuffin.

IndiaMay · 27/05/2021 18:10

I have a bacon double cheeseburger (normally on the £1 saver menu)
Large fries
Diet coke

And then am usually tempted for 6 of whatever nugget special they have on at the time. I love the xmas cheese melt diapers which are basically breaded camembert bites with a herby tomato dip and I liked the Katsu chicken nuggets they did

schofieldsunderpants · 27/05/2021 18:11

DH - Big Mac meal with a coke

DS1 - 5 chicken selects meal and S Milkshake

DS2 - he likes to try whatever is the special at that time! With a choc milkshake

Me - I'm veggie and really not enjoying the current offering - Veggie wrap. It's vegan I believe and I've realised it's missing Mayo and that's just a bit weird. The chewy wrap and salsa combo just isn't right...

miltonj · 27/05/2021 18:12

I usually get a quarter pounder and mozzarella sticks/whatever cheese bites they have on at the time.

My partner always gets one of the seasonal or limited edition burgers.

My baby is a bit young for a maccys yet but she looks like she'd enjoy a McNugget.

IHaveBrilloHair · 27/05/2021 18:13

Big Mac, 9 nuggets, small fries and an apple pie.
That's just for me.

HopeValley · 27/05/2021 18:15

You are that poster. What's the point in having a treat lunch if it doesn't even fill you up? If the OP's child is a healthy weight and it's a six times a year treat (every school holiday) then it's fine. Most adults eat/drink excess calories as a treat pretty regularly - a large glass of wine for example.
Fishandhips · 27/05/2021 18:17

Regular big mac meal but with a hot drink, either capaccino or hot chocolate for me. DH usually has a large meal with a coke (usually big tasty if its on the menu), and we usually share whatever cheese bites they have on at the time. DS has never had one but I'd get him a happy meal with nuggets.

TeacupDrama · 27/05/2021 18:18

me 3 chicken selects meal with coffee or a crsipy chilli chicken wrap
DH 5 chicken selcts or sharing mcnuggests with coke
DD wrap meal or cheeseburger meal stopped having happy meal at about 8 normally with fanta or spirite
we go maybe 3-4 times a year
