What do you your family have at McDonalds?

Please note - I know lots of MN would never dream of feeding their kids McDonalds, but we do, occasionally!

Half term is coming up and DD wants a happy meal for the Pokémon cards (and the nuggets!). She's 8, and last time we went it felt like the happy meal wasn't really enough food. She is, granted, a very, VERY tall girl (in size 11-12 😭).

What do your 8 year olds eat there? And just cos I'm nosey, what do you have?

My 9 year old has now out grown the happy meal and now has a chicken nugget meal.

Ducksurprise · 27/05/2021 19:31

McDonald's isn't a meal in my teenagers book, it is a snack in between. So after a large lunch but before a massive tea, each teenager would order 2 triple cheeseburgers, large fries, large milkshake and 20 box of chicken nuggets (which they would share)
They are skinny, McDonald's is a rare treat due to the cost of the above as it is only a snack

MintyCedric · 27/05/2021 19:35

Haven't had one in years but DD16 had one the other day and I've been having cravings ever since.

For me it would be:

Quarter pounder with cheese, fries and either full fat coke or a vanilla milkshake

DD if she was having a rare blowout would have a chicken burger or nuggets, fries and a chocolate milkshake.

@EssentialHummus

I used to love a Big Mac meal but pregnancy has well and truly fucked with my appetite and the sauce tastes strange now. So it’s a double quarter pounder with cheese instead.

DH is that person who orders the Filet O Fish. I refuse to go through the drive-through with him now because there’s always a ridiculous wait while they scour the freezers for it / google the recipe Grin.

DD is 3 and still thinks it’s called Old McDonald’s and that they mainly sell fruit bags, carrots and juice.

Since they started making everything to order, they produce Fillet o Fish just about as fast as everything else.

I haven't had McDs for ages because neither of the breakfast items I like (sausage bagel or breakfast wrap) appear on the slimmed down COVID menu and all the times I've tried to go for lunch (fillet o fish meal or nuggets to answer the OPs question) the queue has been so massive that I CBA to wait. It seems that they are permanently rammed these days.

On the matter of nuggets, if you want more than 6 you might as well buy 20 due to the stupid pricing where they cost hardly any more than 9 and less than 2 boxes of 6. But obviously if you want the Happy Meal toy, you'll have to get a happy meal and an extra as well if it's not enough food.

hahaboink · 27/05/2021 19:38

My kids have started hating nuggets! Where did I go wrong???? Tbh I only really like a sausage and egg McMuffin nowadays.

MangosteenSoda · 27/05/2021 19:40

I occasionally have a Big Mac. They are amazing. My DS6 has a hamburger happy meal. I was never taken to McD as a child and, as a result, probably wouldn’t bother with it as an adult but DS has ASD and it’s something he will eat so I take him a couple of times a month.

What I really want is just a big bucket of gherkins and relish. Yum.

3Britnee · 27/05/2021 19:42

DH has a big mac meal or big tasty etc usually, and a double cheeseburger. With fat coke.

If off plan, I have a big mac meal/chicken burger/chicken nugget happy meal and a double cheeseburger. With diet coke or Sprite.

Then I buy two double cheeseburgers for later. DH always says he doesn't want one but he's not having any of mine so, when he DOES want one, when I have mine, there's one there for him and I don't have to share 😂

If I'm on plan I have a chicken nugget happy meal and swap the fries for salad, or a chicken salad with a water 🙄 and a double cheeseburger but only eat the inside, not the bread.

hahaboink · 27/05/2021 19:44

There’s too much choice in McDonald’s nowadays. When I worked there there was literally burger, cheeseburger, nuggets, quarter pounder (with cheese), Big Mac and then we hated anyone who came in and ordered a fillet o fish.

MrsWombat · 27/05/2021 19:50

I rotate between the veggie, fillet o'fish and chicken wrap. Often Happy meal size.

The teen has a happy meal with fish fingers or chicken nuggets and has an extra plain burger as well.

The 6 year old just has a happy meal.

They still remember the day I was payment testing a new type of card and had to go to as many restaurants as possible, and we got fries from KFC to go with our McDonalds. Grin Never going to happen again.

clipclop5 · 27/05/2021 19:50

Veggie deluxe with fries! Also partial to cheese bites and the occasional McFlurry

Lorw · 27/05/2021 19:51

DH- Big Mac or quarter pounder meal
Me- I’m the Dickhead who orders a fillet of fish but without the tartare sauce and Mayo instead or I get a mcchicken sandwich 😂

I always get nuggets too 😂

MayflowerMaisie · 27/05/2021 19:52

DH - large BigMac meal, strawberry thick shake and a McFlurry.
DS11 - Fillet o fish - Mayo, not tartar. No fries. Tropicana juice, small McFlurry.
Me - 3 chicken selects meal, water or strawberry shake, apple pie.

RolloTomassi · 27/05/2021 19:56

First thing to say is that the mozzerella sticks are food of the gods 🙌

I have a cheeseburger, DH has a big tasty or one of the American themed burgers when they come out. DC have chicken nuggets. Love a maccies!

Foobydoo · 27/05/2021 19:58

I think it depends on the child, dd1 had a happy meal until 11ish dd2 is nine and for the last year has had a happy meal plus nuggets or medium wrap or nugget meal. Both average height and weight for their ages.
I have a double quarter pounder meal😳 I am fat 🤣 it is a rare treat though every few months.

Idontknowanymore05 · 27/05/2021 19:58

McDonald's. Yummm. My children are younger but they generally have a burger happy meal. They love the toy! I usually for the large big mac meal with a chocolate milkshake.

VienneseWhirligig · 27/05/2021 20:01

QP with cheese meal, strawberry milkshake. DS doesn't have the gherkins, I do. He likes a share box of nuggets occasionally too (I have a couple of them).

BeckyWithTheGoodHair5629456 · 27/05/2021 20:03

Me: quarter pounder with cheese meal, Diet Coke, mozzarella dippers if I'm feeling really greedy.
(If breakfast, Double sausage and egg McMuffin, hash brown, cappuccino)
DC: nuggets or cheeseburger happy meal with fries, milkshake. (They're 4 and 7 though. I can't see my small 7yo finding it not enough yet)

moynomore · 27/05/2021 20:24

So refreshing to see a chat with posters who admit to not hating McDonalds. Grin

853ax · 27/05/2021 20:31

My child similar age & size now has double cheeseburger meal with Fanta. The happy meal too small she would be hungry once home which defeated the point of treat dinner out.
I always want to try something new but when get to order don't risk anything other then MC chicken sandwich meal. Don't go often enough to be disappointed with choice

maryjosephandtheweedonkey · 27/05/2021 20:36

Spicy chicken legend meal with a toffee latte

maryjosephandtheweedonkey · 27/05/2021 20:37

Oh and sour cream and chive dip always!

BettyOBarley · 27/05/2021 20:42

7.5yr old DD has a chicken nugget happy meal with choc milkshake and that's fine for her. She doesn't always finish the fries.

I have a medium big Mac, quarter pounder or chicken wrap meal, usually with a portion of cheese dippers to share with DH if they're on.
I don't like their chicken nuggets at all.

Haven't had one for ages as both me and DH always say it gives us a real slump afterwards and we just want to sleep! We're not super super healthy eaters so don't know why only mcds does that!

PASStheCAKEandCHOC · 27/05/2021 20:45

My dsc who's 8 And age 12 height eats a normal adult meal. Normally the 6 nuggets meal

We have whatever we fancy.

moofolk · 27/05/2021 20:46

I took my kids recently for the first time since before the first lockdown. They are 10, 10 & 12 and share 26 chicken nuggets (I know!) and chips.

I normally for whatever the special thing is or the classic (is that what it's called? Nicer than the big tasty anyway IMO).

I was very anti-McDonalds when I was younger but three very energetic boys and I was feeding us all for fifteen quid while my mates with a only child were sitting round in nice cafes ... so yeah, we started with Maccy D.

Anyway I had forgotten just how absolutely grim the food it. Honestly the burger was minging, I think the year off had reset me!

So be warned.

Myglueattack · 27/05/2021 20:47

Mine love a maccies treat! 8&4 yo have fish fingers or nugget happy meal (they've not done fish fingers for ages due to reduced menu) and a fanta or sprite as a treat, because they're not usually allowed fizzy drinks. They never finish it...they very rarely finish any meal 🤦‍♀️

Me, sweet chilli chicken wrap meal with a cappuccino.

Mum and I will enjoy a maccies coffee when out shopping, its so nice and a fractio n of the cost of other places.
