What do you your family have at McDonalds?

Please note - I know lots of MN would never dream of feeding their kids McDonalds, but we do, occasionally!

Half term is coming up and DD wants a happy meal for the Pokémon cards (and the nuggets!). She's 8, and last time we went it felt like the happy meal wasn't really enough food. She is, granted, a very, VERY tall girl (in size 11-12 😭).

What do your 8 year olds eat there? And just cos I'm nosey, what do you have?

My 12 yo takes either a plain burger or 3 chicken selects, fries, water or sometime a milkshake.

14yo takes 6 nuggets, fries and a diet coke. Wants a milkshake but knows he can't eat that much - he's very much an 'eat little and often' kind of person. Tbf, he'd be happy with 3 Maccies trips a day if he was offered that 😁

@reallyisthisallthereis

Also old school. Quarter pounder with cheese meal. Occasionally throw it in an apple pie. My 11 year old likes their wraps

Ooh, I forgot they had fruit pies!
My McDonald's sells cherry pies and right now, it sounds amazing!

Thanks for the reminder @reallyisthisallthereis

Last time we went was a happy meal each for then 7&9yo old. I vowed then the next time would be a box of 20 nuggets between them, small fries for eldest (youngest doesn't like them).

wishiwasbytheseaside · 27/05/2021 18:20

I have a cheeseburger happy meal, DD 12 has plain burger happy meal and DD10 has nugget happy meal. She used to have fish fingers but they haven't done them during lockdown where we are.
DH gets a quarter pounder meal.
Me and kids are quite petite and small appetites though.

Spied · 27/05/2021 18:20

DP- Large Big Mac meal
DS11- Always asks for a Nugget Happy Meal with a cheeseburger as an added extra.
DD10- Chicken strip meal (3)
All have fries and coke zero.
I have a large fries with tomato ketchup.

bigbeatmanifesto · 27/05/2021 18:22

DS1 8 has a double cheeseburger fries & drink.

DS2 5 has chicken nugget happy meal & plain hamburger of which he only eats the bun Hmm

riotlady · 27/05/2021 18:24

Me- Fillet of fish or double cheeseburger, medium fries, Diet Coke
DP- big tasty, large fries, coffee
DD (3)- chicken nugget happy meal with fries and fruit

Sometimes we get McFlurrys- the caramel one is amazing! I always get a small one, not cos I’m healthy but because the ratio of topping to ice cream is better xD

SteveBuscemisRheumyEye · 27/05/2021 18:24

Ah, so it does sound like 8 is about the time kids need a bit more to fill them up than the standard happy meal!

I do love a fillet o fish. And also a Big Mac!

My 6yo likes chicken nugget happy meal with fries and fruit shoot. Maybe a mcflurry if I'm feeling especially wtf.

I have a veg burger, large fries, diet Sprite and usually leave feeling hungry.

Vanillaradio · 27/05/2021 18:25

7 year old ds still very content with a chicken nugget happy meal (especially if it contains Pokemon cards!) He's not a fan of the burgers. I usually have a chicken sandwich meal or 6 chicken nuggets meal with vanilla milkshake and dh either has chicken select meal or big mac meal. I guess we like chicken Grin

moynomore · 27/05/2021 18:26

My nine year old daughter has just abandoned the cheeseburger happy meal and now has a double cheeseburger, medium fries and a milkshake. I always get a large Big Mac or Filet o Fish meal with Diet Coke.

peboh · 27/05/2021 18:26

Me: Big Mac meal, with Coke Zero.
DH: wrap of the day meal, triple cheeseburger, chicken mayo and oasis.
DD (2 1/2): 20 nugget share box as she doesn't eat fries or anything and whatever she doesn't eat we share. It's very rare we do takeaway with little one, as she's just super fussy and it's easier to cook for her haha.

EssentialHummus · 27/05/2021 18:26

I used to love a Big Mac meal but pregnancy has well and truly fucked with my appetite and the sauce tastes strange now. So it’s a double quarter pounder with cheese instead.

DH is that person who orders the Filet O Fish. I refuse to go through the drive-through with him now because there’s always a ridiculous wait while they scour the freezers for it / google the recipe Grin.

DD is 3 and still thinks it’s called Old McDonald’s and that they mainly sell fruit bags, carrots and juice.

TheMNChicken · 27/05/2021 18:27

McDonald's?! No wonder we have an obesity crisis. My children have never even heard of cheeseburgers. Maybe when they turn 16 I might treat them and show them a photograph of a Big Mac but until then it's quinoa and carrot sticks all the way. Think of the NHS!!

Grizalda · 27/05/2021 18:29

Ds(14) double cheeseburger & choc milkshake. Dd(12) 6 chicken nuggets meal & coke. Dd(8) chicken nuggets happy meal

Me, I always used to have a Big Mac meal but I like to try all the new things they do now. Love the wraps, quarter pounder + cheese.

Tbh, I only go to McDs if the kids are with me as they prefer it. If I'm on my own I much prefer KFC

kowari · 27/05/2021 18:31

We only eat there at services if on a long journey. When we do we both (me and 15 year old DS) have a chicken wrap.

peboh · 27/05/2021 18:32

Good for you. Nobody here is stating they go to McDonald's daily, or even weekly. Get off your high horse.
moynomore · 27/05/2021 18:33

@peboh

pretty sure @TheMNChicken was joking!!

Longdistance · 27/05/2021 18:33

I got my dds extra nuggets to go with the Happy Meal and they’d get a McFlurry.
Dd1 - nuggets, fries and McFlurry
Dd2 - chicken Mayo burger with bacon, fries and McFlurry.
Dh and I don’t really eat it with them, but in the rare occasion it’s a chicken wrap for me, and some double cheeseburger for dh.

Derbee · 27/05/2021 18:33

@peboh I think you may have missed the sarcasm Confused

Derbee · 27/05/2021 18:35

I rarely go to McDonald’s, as the veggie options are all gross. Couldn’t beat a Big Mac when I ate meat though!

TrifleCat · 27/05/2021 18:37

TheMNChicken

Carrot sticks ?? You might as well just feed them raw sugar and be done with it !

Sportsnight · 27/05/2021 18:38

Plain hamburger, small fries and a juice for the kids. I like a cheeseburger, medium fries and I love a banana milkshake. DH would have whatever is on the “specials”, but they never look that appealing to me. Keep it simple! We’re nowhere near one so it’s only ever a motorway special for us.

bitheby · 27/05/2021 18:40

I always have a Big Mac meal with a chocolate milkshake but I do have a happy meal occasionally if the toy is something I want to collect. Forgot about the Pokémon cards and my nearest McDonalds is an hour's drive away Sad
