What do you your family have at McDonalds?

Please note - I know lots of MN would never dream of feeding their kids McDonalds, but we do, occasionally!

Half term is coming up and DD wants a happy meal for the Pokémon cards (and the nuggets!). She's 8, and last time we went it felt like the happy meal wasn't really enough food. She is, granted, a very, VERY tall girl (in size 11-12 😭).

What do your 8 year olds eat there? And just cos I'm nosey, what do you have?

Most of my family are veggie so won't entertain a McDonald's. Me and DS14 love the occasional treat and still love a happy meal. Burger for me and nuggets for Ds. It's filling enough for us but perhaps as this is lunch rather than dinner.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 27/05/2021 18:42

My 8 year old still likes a happy meal but doesn't like chips so has an extra cheese burger and a milkshake

10 year old has plain cheese burger Large chips and large coke

I like a big Mac meal with milkshake and 18 year old tends to have some sort of chicken select meal

Arewenearly · 27/05/2021 18:42

I don't really like McDonalds (prefer BK and KFC) but will get a mcchicken sandwich meal or one of the specials.
DH get 2 double cheeseburgers, large fries, large coke.
DS14 one of the chicken wrap meals (bbq or garlic i think)
DD5 chicken nugget happy meal

Morana23 · 27/05/2021 18:42

My 8 year old has double cheeseburger and chips, I have McChicken sandwich meal Grin 6 year old has either happy meal or cheeseburger and chips. We sometimes get nuggets to share too!

Quornflakegirl · 27/05/2021 18:43

My girls are 8 and very tall too. They had Happy Meals until recently but now have a Fish o Fillet meal or McChicken sandwich meal. They have fried and orange juice or water with the meal.

Quornflakegirl · 27/05/2021 18:43

Fries!

katienana · 27/05/2021 18:43

If we are going big we would get 2 happy meals for the kids, whatever burger and fries combo dh and I want plus a box of nuggets and cheese dippers if they are on. For the happy meal you can get a milkshake as the drink and it costs the same

SquirrelFan · 27/05/2021 18:43

Another breakfast only here - sausage & egg mcmuffin (with cheese). I've never taken the kids because the nearest one is really inconvenient - in a retail park. But I used to go early in order to get there in time for breakfast!

DeathMetalMum · 27/05/2021 18:44

Dd's are just moving on to larger meals. Dd2 (8) had Mcchicken sandwich, Dd1 (10) had crispy bbq wrap.

I have quarter punder with cheese and dp will usually have one of the limited edition burgers as a meal and then needs another burger of some sort on the side.

We probably average about once a month.

rhombuspocahontas · 27/05/2021 18:44

7YO - 6 nuggets and fries from her brothers happy meal (3YO) as he doesn't like them 🙄 plus she shares my drink.

TinyRobins · 27/05/2021 18:45

My 10 year old still gets the happy meal with burger as he’s fussy and it needs to be as plain as possible, without the onions etc. His friends the same age get double cheese burger with fries

supercee · 27/05/2021 18:45

@EssentialHummus

I used to love a Big Mac meal but pregnancy has well and truly fucked with my appetite and the sauce tastes strange now. So it’s a double quarter pounder with cheese instead.

DH is that person who orders the Filet O Fish. I refuse to go through the drive-through with him now because there’s always a ridiculous wait while they scour the freezers for it / google the recipe Grin.

DD is 3 and still thinks it’s called Old McDonald’s and that they mainly sell fruit bags, carrots and juice.

😂😂 This made me laugh. I started seeing a guy (was very brief) and he said he orders a Fillet O Fish from McDonalds. I was like 'ah, one of them'.

FatCatThinCat · 27/05/2021 18:47

Sausage and egg Mcmuffin, 2 hash browns and a coffee. Kids have the same but with a orange juice. I'm not keen on their burgers but their breakfasts are fab. We live about an hour away from the closest so it's usually only a treat when we're off on holiday, so passing by.

cookiecreampie · 27/05/2021 18:47

I have a double cheeseburger or quarter pounder with cheese usually. If I'm being healthy I'll get the grilled sweet chilli wrap. DH and DS1 get big mac meals. Other kids all get chicken nugget happy meals.

Peachesarepeach · 27/05/2021 18:47

@Flowerclock

I'm not a big Maccies fan TBH. But the kids and DH love it. I don't want to be 'that poster' but a cheeseburger and chips in a happy meal is about 400 calories, so personally I think that's plenty for 8YO DS. I tend to get a happy meal myself if we go. I used to like Quarter Pounder with cheese or 5 chicken selects, but I am a fat fucker now so need to lay off them.

I much prefer Burger King (where I would happily wolf down a Bacon Double Cheese XL meal) or Five Guys. Or Domino's or KFC.

Are they doing the Pokemon cards at the moment? Cos my DS loves them!

An 8 year old should eat about 1600 calories a day, 400 isn't much if that's his main meal.

Mine get happy meals with nuggets and a milk shake but they're 6.
I save the calories for pizza and wine!

BertieBotts · 27/05/2021 18:48

McChicken Sandwich meal, that's what DS1 has had since he was about that age.

LynetteScavo · 27/05/2021 18:49

I get fillet o'fish meal with either Diet Coke or a strawberry shake, and sometimes an apple pie.

DD gets a happy meal with Coke, chicken nuggets, also a smoothie drink Hmm and an apple pie.

DS gets a Big Mac meal, "hold the gherkin" (which is just wrong IMO) with a McFlurry (also wrong if you're having a thick shake!)

I had a veggie Happy Meal the other day with some vegetable strip thingies and they were really good.

I don't think you're supposed to feel full after a McDonalds, but it fills a hole until you can eat real food.

LBOCS2 · 27/05/2021 18:51

My 8yo has a nuggets meal plus a Chicken Mayo-with-no-Mayo.

Or she has a chicken mayo with the sides from her dad's Big Mac meal as he doesn't want the fries with it.

(I have a McChicken sandwich meal. Mr LBOCS has just a Big Mac as he has a sickening amount of self control. The teenager has all the food, the 5yo has a nuggets happy meal).

yellowdenim · 27/05/2021 18:56

Me and dh have a medium quarter pounder meal with cheese. If I’m not overly hungry I’ll have a happy meal always with a milkshake whatever I have which is loads of extra calories!

Dd8 has a nuggets happy meal, she’s slightly taller than average but quite slight. She saves the extra room for a small milkshake or McFlurry.

theneverendinglaundry · 27/05/2021 18:58

The 5 year old has a happy meal, the 9 year old and 11 year old have a double cheeseburger and medium fries.

I have a veggie wrap meal as it is the only vegan option. Impatiently awaiting a plant based version of a big mac!

StevieNix · 27/05/2021 19:02

I get a chicken nugget happy meal, with a cheeseburger from the saver menu for myself.
DS (age 3) has a chicken nugget happy meal, with carrot sticks (instead of chips) and a water - he’s only had it twice though.
DH has a big tasty burger meal and 20 chicken nuggets all to himself Hmm

StarCourt · 27/05/2021 19:02

DD is Muslim so has fish fingers k like a Big Mac

LadyCatStark · 27/05/2021 19:19

I have had a quarter pounder with cheese meal with extra pickles and a Diet Coke since I was about 12. If I’m being good, I’ve been know to enjoy a Happy Meal though 😂.

DS has a Big Mac meal with a coke. He stopped having a Happy Meal when he was about the same age as your DD.

DH has a Big Mac meal with a chocolate milkshake.

moynomore · 27/05/2021 19:24

with extra pickles

I always forget to customise like this!

cliffdiver · 27/05/2021 19:24

DD1 (9): 3 chicken selects meal with a Tropicana

DD2 (7): nuggets Happy Meal with water

They both have a McFlurry too.

Me: 1/4 pounder meal with strawberry shake. 3 chicken selects shared with DH

DH: whatever the special burger is meal with Fanta and a McFlurry

We usually get a couple of portions of cheese bites to share between us all too
