After watching a documentary about dangerous wild animal licenses in the uk I came across this www.bornfree.org.uk/dwamap thought others might be interested it shows in every council in the uk what wild animas are living in peoples homes that have licenses Cornwall from my browsing seems to have rediculous amounts of big cats I’m guessing from private zoos thought others unable to sleep might be interested. None in my council area so I don't need to worry about dangerous escapees prowling the streets. Phew!

Shocking how many there are nationally. I really like Born Free - one of my favourite animal charities.

Oh my god
😂 I live very close to a wild life park so ya know, slight concern about escapees over the years … wild dogs did escape the zoo some years back and got shot. And now I find out someone has a pet CROCODILE 🐊? Wtaf …

I watched the documentary with Ross Kemp and couldn't believe it. It was all ego. I can't believe we allow it. Great map, op!

Hm2020 · 26/05/2021 05:14

I’ve looked through most of it tonight and was amazed by the amount of Aligators and crocodiles in the uk Croydon has a lot of dangerous snakes who knew?

These are just the licensed ones too. I live in Cornwall and there's been a few "big black cat" sightings here over the last few years plus another smaller wild cat type (but I can't remember which one), supposedly from a private collection that have escaped and the owners haven't reported it as they weren't licensed.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 26/05/2021 05:25

None in my area, the school run will feel so much safer Grin

Hm2020 · 26/05/2021 05:37

I’ve also definitely seen servals for sale in London but according to the licenses there’s only one serval and no f1 Savannah’s and the servals in Chelsea

It mentions the elephants in Carmarthenshire. But they live in Skanda Vale which is home to monks and nuns. They are a vegan community who do so much good work.

Hm2020 · 26/05/2021 05:44

There’s also one zebra in Maidstone just why?

HollyBollyBooBoo · 26/05/2021 05:46

105 Bison and 1 camel near us!

Soubriquet · 26/05/2021 05:48

Savannah cat and spider monkey

Interesting

Saying that though, in order to get a DWA license, you have to jump through some really strict hoops so I wouldn’t worry about one escaping easily

2 lions and a tiger - I'd heard reports of this on the local social media - looks like it's true.

I could have told you that. #CroydonMassive

Mainly the human kind. Grin

grumpyhetty · 26/05/2021 06:20

None in my area but Southend seems to have a lot of dangerous snakes.

Panicmode1 · 26/05/2021 06:25

I'm never going to Dover again.....Will go to France via Folkestone from now on 😉🤣

Ravenclawsome · 26/05/2021 06:30

Hmmmm my local authority lists several animals that I know for a fact are in a small private zoo (open to the public but without the charitable status of the big zoos).
So I think it's likely many of the others at "private addresses" are in similar circumstances, rather than it being a case of Posh Dave in the mansion has a tiger in his living room.

Chunkymenrock · 26/05/2021 06:30

A serval and an ostrich!

Creamcrackersandricecakes · 26/05/2021 06:31

None in Tunbridge Wells! But I'm curious as to who owns the two otters listed as being down the road in Tonbridge, (love otters!).

DanceForMeColin · 26/05/2021 06:42

@IWantAllTheDogsInTheWorld I’m in Devon and I saw a big black cat, the size of a Labrador, a few years back. I’m convinced there are wild cats out there probably that have escaped or been released at some point.

LeafBeetle · 26/05/2021 06:58

My area has alligators, big cats and wolves. Who the fuck keeps a domestic cheetah?!

Panicmode1 · 26/05/2021 06:58

@Creamcrackersandricecakes - I was wondering that too. Perhaps being near the river they are kept semi captive?! I was also very pleased to see we are safe from venomous snakes here in Tunbridge Wells.....but surprised there was no mention of a zebra - I'm sure Groombridge Place used to have one, seeing as there is a zeedonk Grin

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 26/05/2021 07:08

I can't see a map...? Confused

FricasseeTurnips · 26/05/2021 07:09

Cornwall has quite a lot, doesn't it. What's a "fishing cat" anyway?

OK so I've googled it and it's a cat that can swim for a long way even under water and makes a chuckling sound. I'm surprisingly unreassured by that.
