After watching a documentary about dangerous wild animal licenses in the uk I came across this www.bornfree.org.uk/dwamap thought others might be interested it shows in every council in the uk what wild animas are living in peoples homes that have licenses Cornwall from my browsing seems to have rediculous amounts of big cats I’m guessing from private zoos thought others unable to sleep might be interested. West Midlands, Capuchin Monkey x1!
Amazing! (And don't agree at all with keeping "wild animals" as pets)
I want to know where the monkey is now Grin

North Hertfordshire District Council is worth a look if you like big cats Shock

Who knew there were 45 crocodiles in Cambridgeshire?

@MiniLeopardInTheHouse
PETA in the US have the highest number of domestic pets euthanised in their shelters, the also fund the extermination of feral cat colonies. As someone who works in rescue it disgusts me.

@GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal

There were Rhea birds running amuck on a Hertfordshire housing estate near me just a few weeks ago.
@GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal You must be near me then.

I cracked up reading about them, can you imagine driving down the road and coming across them??

You'd think you were seeing things!

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 26/05/2021 18:03

I would've just loved to be a fly on the wall when the first police officer got the first call about them:

"There's a WHAT going through your bins love?!"

That's what I thought. Our county has a human population of half a million and the bengal cat in our street can't be the only one.

cupsofcoffee · 26/05/2021 18:42

Surely a bengal cat isn't a wild animal? I thought they were domesticated just like any other cat.

It depends what generation bengal. Some need licenses.

The selfishness and ignorance on this thread is hugely disappointing.

DartmoorChef · 26/05/2021 21:48

There is quite a lot of ignorance on this thread sadly.

The owners who have licences have very good secure enclosures, and know how to look after the animals, which have almost certainly been born in captivity or have been injured and are unable to return to the wild.

A good friend of mine helps a local zoo and has often brought home injured new borns to help hand rear. These have to be registered under the dangerous animal act and she is licenced .

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 26/05/2021 22:20

Not in my area but close by there's a couple of lions

cocoloco987 · 26/05/2021 22:45

I said above I wondered if it included private zoos and my area (with a private zoo) has a few and I also checked Midlothian where Edinburgh Zoo is and it said zero - but Edinburgh is a charity rather than private, so wouldn't be included in this I don't think

Fwiw Edinburgh is under city of Edinburgh not Midlothian but that has nothing listed either - many of the areas that have smaller private parks/zoo's are showing up with none so it must just be private homes. Interested to know who has the largish colony of lemurs in the Scottish Borders though and amused that fife being full of venomous snakes is not just a metaphor.

I said that up thread whilst also noting my slight error. Edinburgh is considered Midlothian geographically (a lot of Post Office stuff includes it) but is administered by a separate council. When I was searching, in my head I was thinking geographically.
sashh · 27/05/2021 06:47

None in my area but Cannock chase is another matter.

I'm not sure how dangerous otters are (although one tried to steal my carer's wallet in Japan) or capuchin monkeys.
