After watching a documentary about dangerous wild animal licenses in the uk I came across this www.bornfree.org.uk/dwamap thought others might be interested it shows in every council in the uk what wild animas are living in peoples homes that have licenses Cornwall from my browsing seems to have rediculous amounts of big cats I’m guessing from private zoos thought others unable to sleep might be interested. I didn’t realise that ring-tailed lemurs were dangerous! They seem so cute. And you can get into the huge enclosure with them at the Cotswold Wildlife Park.

Great find, OP. The ones in my area I knew about because the owner is often 'featured' in the local press . Relieved to hear he's the only one locally.

Edinburgh Zoo is in Edinburgh, not Midlothian, and Edinburgh also has zero,
Ravenclawsome

I said above I wondered if it included private zoos and my area (with a private zoo) has a few and I also checked Midlothian where Edinburgh Zoo is and it said zero - but Edinburgh is a charity rather than private, so wouldn't be included in this I don't think

We appear to have a herd of Bison. Now I really want to know where they are. And we have 1 Bengal cat, I'm not sure why that it on the list! Bengals might be a bit mental but they are still just domestic cats.

OldTinHat · 26/05/2021 07:42

A lemur in my county!

Pinetreesfall · 26/05/2021 07:46

We have a wolf sanctuary nearby but according to the list all we have is a couple of ostriches! How does that work?

LemonRoses · 26/05/2021 07:47

We have wild boar. I’m assuming a small meat producing business rather than pets.
I think that’s very different to keeping wild animals as pets. Poor creatures; I don’t like seeing cats and dogs without proper outdoor access and lots of exercise, let alone large wild animals.

thought others unable to sleep might be interested.

Because knowing there's a tiger and a king cobra at the end of the street is going to help with that! Grin

Noooooogsh · 26/05/2021 07:54

3 in Bristol including a dwarf caiman which I thought was a baby goat for some reason 😂 no it’s a bloody crocodile 😩

AfternoonToffee · 26/05/2021 07:55

County Durham mentions 40 Bison but they all seem to be here.

I'd be more worried about the alligators that seem to be around.

iminthegarden · 26/05/2021 07:55

Serval Cat here. Please tell me they are more tabby and less tiger Shock

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 26/05/2021 07:56

just my kids

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 26/05/2021 07:58

Disappointed to see none in my area.

But we do have a massive Wildlife Park less than a mile away and we get serenaded by wolves and lions at night.

Beamur · 26/05/2021 07:59

Some animals that need licencing I think are considered wild rather than dangerous. Like (I haven't checked this so could be wrong) llama and alpaca don't need this license to be kept as they are livestock/domesticated but vicuna (closely related) are considered wild, so do.

ShirleyPhallus · 26/05/2021 08:02

@Hm2020

I’ve looked through most of it tonight and was amazed by the amount of Aligators and crocodiles in the uk Croydon has a lot of dangerous snakes who knew?
Doesn’t surprise me. I’ve dated a few of them.
nembrotha · 26/05/2021 08:03

The bison are being farmed here:
www.bisons.org/

You can visit and buy the meat. Baby bisons are super cute.

Cookerhood · 26/05/2021 08:04

The wolves in West Berkshire are at a sanctuary, bit in a home. We have lots of ostriches apparent (100+), presumably that's on a farm. DS has a friend who works for an animal encounters type company & he has a scorpion so I think some of these things will be on there because people have to have a licence for an animal handling job.

Cookerhood · 26/05/2021 08:06

The wolf sanctuary (now closed, sadly)

Oh that's sad about the Berks one - went there when I lived that way! But I'm in the south west so the mystery still remains. Surely wolves class as dangerous?!

MaudesMum · 26/05/2021 09:05

It definitely includes animals kept for business purposes. There's a bison farm in Wiltshire that I know of, and, yep, a herd of 60 bisons is listed. See also Wild Boar in South Somerset.

squashyhat · 26/05/2021 09:16

There was someone asking for info on escaped rheas in my part of East Sussex a couple of days ago but they don't feature on the map. Facebook post said not to approach them so I guess they count as dangerousGrin

AtoZed · 26/05/2021 09:24

I think it's sad. There's 2 wildlife places near me that regularly have to find room for wild animals that have been kept in a house as a pet and are now "too wild" "too big" etc Hmm not counting the animals and birds that are found being smuggled in passengers' luggage by airlines. Incredibly cruel and heartless.

MrsGulDukat · 26/05/2021 09:34

Some in my district as a Boar. That was it.

TheQueef · 26/05/2021 09:45

I saw the Ross Kemp thing.
Bonkers.

Few years ago I looked into a serval, went to view some in Rotherham.
Lady had a 3 bed semi, looked normal from the outside. Inside was caged, wired and enclosed to buggery and the sire had to have his own room complete with destroyed furniture and full size doors he had shredded. Went through a sofa each month and had window alarms!
They aren't pets!
