After watching a documentary about dangerous wild animal licenses in the uk I came across this www.bornfree.org.uk/dwamap thought others might be interested it shows in every council in the uk what wild animas are living in peoples homes that have licenses Cornwall from my browsing seems to have rediculous amounts of big cats I’m guessing from private zoos thought others unable to sleep might be interested. @Pinetreesfall
They still care for wolves and there’s updates on FB just not open to public.

unchienandalusia · 26/05/2021 09:48

Absolutely disgusting that this is allowed in the UK. Never mind the danger to people, these are wild animals that belong IN THR WILD. Please sign born frees petition to change the law that allows this. Following the Stacey Dooley programme on Monday its gathering a bit more pace. www.bornfree.org.uk/news/stacey-dooley-response

I wonder if some of these are people who work at the wildlife parks or zoos and take some of the animals home when they need extra care. I'm basing all of this off watching tv shows about zoos 😂 it says none near me but I know of 2 different farms in my area that have rheas, one of them likes to hiss at me and attack the fence!

krustykittens · 26/05/2021 10:08

There is nothing but lemurs in my area. I need to find out the adddresses so I can go round for a cuddle.

MiniLeopardInTheHouse · 26/05/2021 10:15
@IWantAllTheDogsInTheWorld I’m in Devon and I saw a big black cat, the size of a Labrador, a few years back. I’m convinced there are wild cats out there probably that have escaped or been released at some point.
It's me. They come and go through our giant cat flap. Move along, nothing to see here. Wink

Nietzschethehiker · 26/05/2021 10:21

Interesting. Lots of snakes in my area (not something I will be telling DS1 after the fixation on attacking Penguins at night last year)

Apparently none where my parents live...not surprising , in Stepford Wives land I think you are only allowed specific small dogs or you get excommunicated from the local waitrose.

Nietzschethehiker · 26/05/2021 10:24

It can't include set up zoos or aquariums etc , we live 5 minutes from an aquarium that definitely has dangerous animals (don't get me started on the mix of fish and other random animals it was hard enough to explain to DC.. although to be fair that was mostly explaining the animatronic dinosaurs were not real and were not going to eat them Grin)

FictionalCharacter · 26/05/2021 10:34

@AtoZed

I think it's sad. There's 2 wildlife places near me that regularly have to find room for wild animals that have been kept in a house as a pet and are now "too wild" "too big" etc Hmm not counting the animals and birds that are found being smuggled in passengers' luggage by airlines. Incredibly cruel and heartless.
I agree. I’m really sad that most of this thread is worrying about dangerous animals escaping, not concern for the animals’ welfare if wild animals are being kept as pets. Most wild animals (even “dangerous” ones) will run away from humans.
AMillionMilesAway · 26/05/2021 10:37

Thats interesting!
Who the hell is keeping camels in the middle of London, though?

AMillionMilesAway · 26/05/2021 10:39

@TheQueef

I saw the Ross Kemp thing. Bonkers.

Few years ago I looked into a serval, went to view some in Rotherham.
Lady had a 3 bed semi, looked normal from the outside. Inside was caged, wired and enclosed to buggery and the sire had to have his own room complete with destroyed furniture and full size doors he had shredded. Went through a sofa each month and had window alarms!
They aren't pets!

Thats sad- that poor animal should be in a natural habitat not a living room! Should be illegal to own these animals (preferably at all, but at least unless you have the proper set up!)
Hm2020 · 26/05/2021 10:49

I watched something can’t remember where about people breeding marmosets in the uk they do not even need this license you need nothing to own one and the abuse and neglect of them was horrific I believe a reporter was just picking adds off loot and secretly filming as he went to viewing.. was barbaric made me want to cry.

@OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea

We appear to have a herd of Bison. Now I really want to know where they are. And we have 1 Bengal cat, I'm not sure why that it on the list! Bengals might be a bit mental but they are still just domestic cats.
The Act doesn't just apply to wild species, it applies to hybrids of wild and domestic species. Bengals are one example of that, Wolfdogs another. Bengals originate from cross-breeding a domestic cat like an Egyptian Mau with an Asian Leopard cat which are classed as wild. Whether or not a Bengal needs a license depends on how close to their wild ancestor they are - so a first generation kitten/cat would need a license in the UK. Fourth or fifth generations onwards are the most suitable for domestic pets. Generations one to three have too much of the wild still in them for the majority of home situations. Unfortunately, unscrupulous breeders cash in, including not doing proper suitable home checks and some cats are also sold as Bengals when they aren't. Sadly, they suffer for their beauty. There are a lot of Bengals in rescues.
RubaDubMum89 · 26/05/2021 10:59

One bengal cat and one leopard cat. I'm presuming that's a bengal tiger and a leopard. Just wtf?!

TheQueef · 26/05/2021 11:00

It could be the same serval showing on the map @AMillionMilesAway I didn't really know what a serval was, that's why I visited to see if it was feasible.
No way had anyone checked welfare just security.
Outside she had a few runs which could have been converted for the Cats but she also bred millions of rabbits for pin mone y and fresh food.
It was crazy I'd hate to be her neighbours.
She was more than happy she had £55k in kittens Sad

Creamcrackersandricecakes · 26/05/2021 11:07

@Panicmode1 - now I really want to go and see the zeedonk!!!! Grin

SinisterBumFacedCat · 26/05/2021 11:08

Nothing where I am. This area is so boring. Wink

Can’t believe people are allowed to do this. It’s very cruel.

MiniLeopardInTheHouse · 26/05/2021 11:32

It is likely to be a first generation Bengal cat and an Asian Leopard Cat - their proper name is Leopard Cat - used in the breeding of Bengal cats.
bellropes · 26/05/2021 11:42

One bengal cat and 40 bison. The bison are on a farm and sold for meat. We bought some burgers a few weeks ago. They have a lovely big place to live with a pond and trees etc.

AlanThePig · 26/05/2021 11:46

@Ostryga

Someone has got a Gila monster. What the feck is that Confused
I've been to Gila Bend in Arizona. Gila Monsters are HUGE lizards. Saw one at the side of the road on a rest stop. Got back in the car like Usain Bolt 😂

Weirdly nothing in my area. I say weirdly because I know there is a pet place up the road that has quite a few venomous snakes, scorpions and lizards. Assume they are unregistered.

Ravenclawsome · 26/05/2021 12:00

@4PawsGood

Edinburgh Zoo is in Edinburgh, not Midlothian, and Edinburgh also has zero, Ravenclawsome

I said above I wondered if it included private zoos and my area (with a private zoo) has a few and I also checked Midlothian where Edinburgh Zoo is and it said zero - but Edinburgh is a charity rather than private, so wouldn't be included in this I don't think

Different local authority but considered part of the Midlothian geographic area for other things.

Moot point anyway as nothing under Edinburgh either.

TheQueef · 26/05/2021 12:03

Think it's only licences in private homes. Zoo's and stuff would be commercial no?

AMillionMilesAway · 26/05/2021 12:10

Zoos are definitely not on there. I checked out the areas Cheshire, London, Colchester and Howletts are in- nothing really flagged up.
BeastOfBODMAS · 26/05/2021 12:10

There is a bison farm in Dorset. They had a lovely campsite. And a bison burger van.

MiniLeopardInTheHouse · 26/05/2021 12:15

Not my own area, but just a google of the result for 'Cannock Chase lions, tiger' brings up a whole swathe of sadness for those creatures. As pps have said, there are Born Free and PETA petitions available to sign.
