Egg and Chips

Our American friend won't believe egg and chips is a meal (egg, chips and beans, to be precise).

It got me wondering, is this a meal specific to my location (the north west of England), or is it enjoyed all over the U.K.?

I love egg and chips. Fine upstanding dinner, no ponce, no frills, retro but always current. Beans can fuck ALL the way off though.

America and its obsession with sprinkling cinnamon on every bloody edible thing can sit down.

Well they eat waffles with fried chicken and syrup so they have no clue what a meal is.

Or grits and eggs. Chips and eggs seems very tame in comparison.

Egg and chips is lovely, but if it's with beans they must be served in a ramekin to avoid mixing of yolk and bean juice.

I love it! It's the sort of thing I'll order if we're eating in a simple cafe; for some reason I don't make it as often as I'd like. Would happily eat it weekly. Perhaps with a grilled tomato alongside as a gesture towards health.

Are you friends with YorkshirePeach off Tiktok? She posted a vid about this yesterday. She was convinced her British mates were winding her up about egg and chips being a thing!

Also, egg and chips is a thing here in South Wales too. Chips for dipping in the runny yolk!

We've got her on to fish fingers / scampi and chips and peas. She's quite the convert on those. Not to keen on baked beans though.

We were having a conversation about what weird (to her) stuff Brits put on chips (mushy peas, gravy, curry sauce) and the topic of egg and chips came up.

My husband likes ham, egg and chips.

I’ve only ever seen it on menus with ham / gammon in the SE and SW, and beans optional.

Baked eggs and potatoes with cheese was on the menu at loads of diners when I was in Arizona and fried eggs and potatoes are a common breakfast food in several southern states.

Had spam, egg and chips for tea myself tonight 😂
