Has anyone seen the interview and pics?

In contrast to Billie's usual look of large clothes, avoiding a look of what is traditionally /media hyped as femine (tight or revealing clothes, lots of make up etc) Billie is pictured in retro underwear, blonde hair, flawless make up and says it makes her feel more like a woman.

Ffs, like our dcs needed another stereotypical woman posing in underwear... She cut such an unique no nonsense look and has been a breath of fresh air especially to. Girls t
And now there is this.

Change your style etc yes, but to basically mimic something that is such an age old entrenched style when it goes against what you previously stood for and what your fans looked up to. You for? It just seems such a shame for all. Those younger fans that saw her as saying it's okay to be different... Now it seems its not.

OP posts:
LunaNorth · 02/05/2021 23:01

It gets to most of them, eventually. Such a shame.

ImFree2doasiwant · 02/05/2021 23:18

Depressingly predictable.

partystress · 02/05/2021 23:24

Yup. I’m sad too. My 17yo DD is a huge fan. Telling me this is a great thing because it shows she has choices and is empowered. FFS. She was the one woman in the industry who had the clout to hold out and instead she’s joined the rest. Actually, I’m more than sad, I’m despairing.

To be honest she might just have wanted a change of pace. I think it’s ashame to say she has to stick with one style forever if that’s not what makes her feel good. I am a bit sceptical though that she hasn’t done it because “sex sells” ie has kind of given up her values.

RoseRedRoseBlue · 02/05/2021 23:27

Utterly predictable

FightingTheFoo · 02/05/2021 23:27

I was disappointed. I also thought it was cool she was so non conformist.

The cover shoot is unoriginal and not even flattering (the layers of what looks like M&S bras). Doesn't look "fashiony-y" at all really. More like a Primark Madonna.

It's times like this I do wonder whether we have got something different if Vogue currently had a female editor.

ChrissyPlummer · 02/05/2021 23:28

Not many kids read Vogue from what I remember (parents owned a paper shop). Part of being young is experimenting with different styles/looks. She can change her mind if she likes.

Babyroobs · 02/05/2021 23:29

The shots are bloody awful.

Babyroobs · 02/05/2021 23:31

@Babyroobs

The shots are bloody awful.
Sorry I meant to say the underwear is awful, looks so uncomfortable !
TheSpottedZebra · 02/05/2021 23:31

She's 19!

Didn't she say that she hated her body as she wanted to be modelesque-tall, small breasts, slim hips. And she's not.

So maybe she feels enough now.or maybe that is the best way to rebel against what you said and who you were?

Or maybe she's like all the others. Maybe we all are?

NiceGerbil · 02/05/2021 23:33

'Billie told the publication: ‘Somehow, I feel more like a woman,’ before adding: ‘It’s all about what makes you feel good. If you want to get surgery, go get surgery.'

???!!!???

What's happened? Of course she can do as she wishes. I remember how angry she was when a mag put a drawing of her on the cover in skimpy clothes as she said. I deliberately wear baggy clothes because I want the attention on my music and why should women have to get their kit off (massive paraphrase!).

The outfit also is not just underwear. It's a really tight corset thing and knickers that look like they're made of plastic...

What has happened to make her change her tune so massively? The surgery comment is Shock

TheSpottedZebra · 02/05/2021 23:35

Well she's probably had surgery with that comment.

Goawaymuppet · 02/05/2021 23:39

It made me sad. My DD loved how she looked just normal and not perfect. She was quite downcast when she saw the pictures.

Time40 · 02/05/2021 23:40

Oh, this is really interesting, actually. I read an article about Billie's usual look the other day - it said that she has avoided playing the celebrity game with her looks, but even she is in a way trapped by expectations about women's appearance because if she ever wanted to change her style and look more like other young female pop stars, people would attack her for "selling out" ... and no sooner than this was said than it's actually happened.

Therefore ... I couldn't disagree with you more strongly, OP. Every woman has the right to dress in any way she wants. Every woman has the right to experiment with fashion and looks. Just because Billie is in the public eye, that doesn't mean that she is morally obliged to be a role model. She has an absolute right to do what the hell she wants with her own image.

DartmoorChef · 02/05/2021 23:42

Sadly predictable and a shame.

She always looks dead behind the eyes or stoned too.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 02/05/2021 23:42

I know very little about this woman - but read something along the lines of her having a stylist. So it’s all just a carefully created image - not authentic.

Saltyslug · 02/05/2021 23:42

She’s got a lovely figure. I really like her edgy look

GreenTeaPingPong · 02/05/2021 23:51

I felt disappointed when I saw the front cover. Unless it's just an image she's experimenting with, and will go with something else / different for future album covers and appearances, which I really hope is the case.

EdwinPootsLovesArchaeology · 02/05/2021 23:52

I remember every woman or girl on the X-Factor ended up in some glittery underwear eventually, or at least a cleavage-displaying glittery corset top. The 'dancing in their pants' look.

BE is so far above the X-Factor, they're on different planets.

Yet this still happens.

It doesn't feel quite right to me tbh.

NiceGerbil · 02/05/2021 23:52

The thing I wonder is that maybe she had insecurities and that was the real reason for covering up?.

The change in view just seems so huge.

For those saying whatever. She was a woman that many girls looked to, as a role model in a world where women are constantly objectified. She totally rejected it. She said my body isn't important. My music is. Why should I have to show my body to sell records etc.

This massive about turn especially with yeah go get surgery is going to throw all those girls into confusion etc.

It's like having a woman who is a brilliant in engineering suddenly giving it up and saying oh well girls aren't that good at that sort of thing really.

Poor comparison probably but that's the gist.

Anchoredowninanchorage · 02/05/2021 23:53

I was hoping there would be a discussion about billie, in the interview I thought it seemed like she chose to style herself as her fantasy glamour image , an opposite to her usual look , they referenced a 50s singer in the article iirc , personally I was really disappointed to see billie in the typical corset pvc agent provocateur styling. Her usual look is so distinctive and cool .

MyDcAreMarvel · 02/05/2021 23:54

She looks beautiful, elegant and feminine can’t see the issue at all.

Sparklfairy · 02/05/2021 23:58

Gosh, the hair and make up in the pics make her look a lot like Scarlett Johansson!

Mistressinthetulips · 02/05/2021 23:58

Isn't she still a teenager? I don't like that style at all

Anchoredowninanchorage · 03/05/2021 00:00

She’s 18 I think
