Billie Eilish in Vogue

Has anyone seen the interview and pics?

In contrast to Billie's usual look of large clothes, avoiding a look of what is traditionally /media hyped as femine (tight or revealing clothes, lots of make up etc) Billie is pictured in retro underwear, blonde hair, flawless make up and says it makes her feel more like a woman.

Ffs, like our dcs needed another stereotypical woman posing in underwear... She cut such an unique no nonsense look and has been a breath of fresh air especially to. Girls t
And now there is this.

Change your style etc yes, but to basically mimic something that is such an age old entrenched style when it goes against what you previously stood for and what your fans looked up to. You for? It just seems such a shame for all. Those younger fans that saw her as saying it's okay to be different... Now it seems its not.

@Wilsonwilson

I think she is creepy as fuck, she looks so out of it/dead eyed. Wtf is going on with her.
You are talking about a teenager you have never met. Wtf is going on with YOU?
Thewiseoneincognito · 03/05/2021 08:35

A way of conforming for the sheep to get onboard with her....

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 03/05/2021 08:36

Always found her annoying actually, and saw that coming a mile off.

Was she not only 16/17 when she started?

She was 13 when her first song was released. Its great to hear you found that 13 year old girl annoying and thought about how one day she'd do a lingerie shoot 👍

@drpet49

** Sadly predictable and a shame.

She always looks dead behind the eyes or stoned too.**

^This. Her eyes are very strange. I can tour my finger on it.

She has a neurological condition,suffers from depression and night terrors and has been abused in some form as a child.

Is she just not happy and bouncy enough for you? I wonder why...

16purplecolour16 · 03/05/2021 08:45

@AccidentallyOnPurpose - even greater reason to have greater boundaries. That shoot now screams ‘vulnerable teenager being exploited’ and her peer group enabling rather than throwing a blanket over her and telling the exploiters aka Noel Clarke to fuck right off.

Jenala · 03/05/2021 08:48

I said to DH just a few weeks ago, I guarantee Eilish will be super sexy as the next thing. Bingo. I don't think it's really a good or a bad thing, beyond it being a bit annoying to bang on about not wanting to have to show off her body, only to show it off.

Her look has always been very, very carefully managed, possibly this is her doing something more how she wants to. I doubt it though.

I watched this video about her last year which is really interesting. As ever, the story is never quite as the artist wants you to think.

Mistressinthetulips · 03/05/2021 08:49

I think she has skipped a few stages unnecessarily between baggy jumpers and corsets/pants.
Saying I don't like it does not mean I am judging BE. Not so keen on the society she/we live in though.

@DumplingsAndStew

She was annoying 🤷‍♀️ still is. Not sure what her age has to do with it. I find plenty of 13 year old boys annoying too. And yes, I did predict that she would end up changing herself eventually. Didn't take long did it?

True. However when you have the internet raging at you and commenting on your body ,morals and principles for wearing a form fitting vest or a bikini on holiday you might as well skip those stages (and avoid years of it) and just say fuck it and go all out.
userchange856 · 03/05/2021 09:02

And prior we were simply talking about her work.

Really? Because I've seen the obsession with her baggy clothes being discussed since her first album? If women can't STFU about this shit we don't stand a bloody chance of men doing the same.

IT'S JUST CLOTHES. She's 19, she's finding her way, maybe the baggy clothes were a stage, maybe this photo shoot is a one off she'll regret, I don't give a fuck, but I do give a fuck about this boring nonstop commentary and the impact it will have on her and every other young woman witnessing it.

SimonedeBeauvoirscat · 03/05/2021 09:03

Trying to figure out how best to describe the ‘look’. ‘A homemade soft porn shoot using items from a 1980s BHS catalogue’ is probably about it, I think.

Joeblack066 · 03/05/2021 09:03

Well she’s been singing graphic songs about sex since she was 13, you’ve all played it to your pre teen daughters, and now you’re surprised?
FFS.

babbaloushka · 03/05/2021 09:09

@Time40

Oh, this is really interesting, actually. I read an article about Billie's usual look the other day - it said that she has avoided playing the celebrity game with her looks, but even she is in a way trapped by expectations about women's appearance because if she ever wanted to change her style and look more like other young female pop stars, people would attack her for "selling out" ... and no sooner than this was said than it's actually happened.

Therefore ... I couldn't disagree with you more strongly, OP. Every woman has the right to dress in any way she wants. Every woman has the right to experiment with fashion and looks. Just because Billie is in the public eye, that doesn't mean that she is morally obliged to be a role model. She has an absolute right to do what the hell she wants with her own image.

I agree, I thought most of her comments were great and uplifting.

It’s actually quite a ‘bleh’ look - neither burlesque nor pinup gal. Looks more like an ad for a lingerie store.
Branleuse · 03/05/2021 09:13

She looks so beautiful.
She doesnt owe us to wear baggy clothes at all times, although i did appreciate her stance on it all and i hope shes not under too much pressure

Do you think people should have the same style throughout their lives? We should all continue to be the person we were at 13?

There's women in the Style boards who won't wear the same clothes season to season!!

Branleuse · 03/05/2021 09:20

I wonder if its a reaction because in her last video loads of people were saying they could tell she had got fat and had the body of a 40 year old mum etc.

Margotshypotheticaldog · 03/05/2021 09:20

Being photographed in your knickers is not empowerment for women, it just isn't. That's just the same bullshit lie that women keep getting sold, by people who want to look at pictures of semi naked/naked women. If it was really empowering, people in power would be doing it.

MizMoonshine · 03/05/2021 09:23

What kind of anti feminist bullshit is this?

Billie was a literal child when she came to fame. She dressed the way she did because she didn't want to be sexualised and had a lot of body issues. As a child.

She created a look for herself which was very much on the extreme end of covered and really put herself in a box. She was known for this look and any deviation was going to be noted. When she left the house in a vest she was photographed and scrutinized endlessly.

She's taking ownership of her body and is discovering herself and her style. She will likely settle somewhere between the two eventually but it's not our place to judge.

Your daughters are your responsibility.

Billie Eilish owes you nothing.

Branleuse · 03/05/2021 09:24

This video. I saw so many comments online about her " mum bod" that I bet you anything it was to do with that.

tecatea · 03/05/2021 09:25

Well it's a bit more tasteful than Mileys "I'm not a child anymore" breakout but yes very predictable.

Margotshypotheticaldog · 03/05/2021 09:28

I agree with the pp who said this appears to be a vulnerable young woman being taken advantage of. I would be astonished if she came up with this idea on her own.

tecatea · 03/05/2021 09:31

But as women we have choice and we should support other women not rush to judge and put them down for their choices.

It's ok to question why those choices are always the same eg get surgery & wear underwear & the impact that has on wider society though isn't it?

Bimblybomeyelash · 03/05/2021 09:32

Of course women should have free choice to dress how they like. But we should examine what leads them to make those choices.
