Billie Eilish in Vogue

Has anyone seen the interview and pics?

In contrast to Billie's usual look of large clothes, avoiding a look of what is traditionally /media hyped as femine (tight or revealing clothes, lots of make up etc) Billie is pictured in retro underwear, blonde hair, flawless make up and says it makes her feel more like a woman.

Ffs, like our dcs needed another stereotypical woman posing in underwear... She cut such an unique no nonsense look and has been a breath of fresh air especially to. Girls t
And now there is this.

Change your style etc yes, but to basically mimic something that is such an age old entrenched style when it goes against what you previously stood for and what your fans looked up to. You for? It just seems such a shame for all. Those younger fans that saw her as saying it's okay to be different... Now it seems its not.

The surgery comment I find pretty awful tbh.

@TDMN

Honestly, good on her. She's 19, she has body confidence issues, she got dragged online for having a normal body, she wants to change her look up to go with a new album, she's gone for this. She's 19! She's not responsible for the weight of you wanting a role model who dresses modestly for your child, nor should she stay the same forever if thats not what she wants. Oh and dressing feminine doesnt diminish your power... If you think someone showing some skin means their value as an artist or role model has been diminished in some way, then that is your internalised misogyny speaking surely....
Well said, I agree with every word. She's 19 years old fgs Experimenting with different looks is exactly what she's supposed to be doing at her age.
LunaNorth · 03/05/2021 06:06

It’s very jarring to watch old TOTP episodes from the 80s and 90s. The female singers are mostly fully dressed, and not even remotely ‘sexily’. Jackets, trousers, dungarees...

It’s fine to say BE cam dress how she likes. But she’s undressed. She’s standing in her pants saying it’s fine to get surgery. That’s depressing, however I look at it.

Interested in this thread?

Then you might like threads about these subjects:

Pyewackect · 03/05/2021 06:22

Nor me. She’s free to dress as she pleases.

KatherineJaneway · 03/05/2021 06:45

BTS are the biggest boy band on the planet and they're nearly always in suits. Little Mix are probably the female equivalent and they're running around in hot pants and corsets.

Because the record company think that Little Mix would be no where near as successful if they covered up.

PortraitOf44 · 03/05/2021 07:16

Totally agreed. The comments on this thread are disgusting from a bunch of so-called feminists.

PortraitOf44 · 03/05/2021 07:23

Some feminist you are. How would you like to hear someone describing your teenage DD as “dead behind the eyes”? Vile vile vile. Utterly shocked at the misogynistic cattery everyone on this thread is openly throwing around. You should all be ashamed.

She’s a young woman who is free to dress how she wants. Why should she be pigeon-holed by other WOMEN because she chooses to change her style?

She’s exercising her liberty to decide - one day she can wear baggy clothes, and the next she can wear lingerie if she so pleases. And neither outfit affects who she is as a person/her value! This is a message I think a fair few women on this thread could do with absorbing. So you think women are lesser because of what they CHOOSE to wear? Confused

grapewine · 03/05/2021 07:30

She doesn't owe anyone anything, least of all being a role model at 19.

AccidentallyOnPurpose · 03/05/2021 07:32

* “‘You’re going to complain about being taken advantage of as a minor, but then you’re going to show your boobs?’” She tilts her head and widens her eyes in a slow charade of contemplation. Then she swivels back, points straight at me and laughs. “Yes I am, motherfker! I’m going to because there’s no excuse.”

As I suspected, she was a victim of abuse herself. It's not uncommon for victims to swing from fully covered up (protection, shame, hiding) to very sexualised clothing (in an attempt to take back control over your own body).

On top of that complete mindfuck, every single time she wore anything that wasn't fully covered the internet exploded with outrage. She couldn't experiment at her own pace or wear whatever she wanted . A pap pic of her wearing a vest sparked discussion ffs. So I assume it was an issue of go big, get it over and done with , people can rant and rave , but it will eventually die down and then you have the space and time to experiment with your own style without it being such a big deal.

justanotherneighinparadise · 03/05/2021 07:38

I thought the same. I loved her look, it was so refreshing, and now of course being ‘feminine& involves removing your clothes. I couldn’t have rolled my eyes harder 🙄

OrchidLass · 03/05/2021 07:48

Well it's up to her of course but I couldn't pick her out from the rest now. I loved her look before.

Pinkypink · 03/05/2021 07:51

It's her body her choice blah blah but still disappointing

BlackCatShadow · 03/05/2021 07:56

She can style herself as she chooses but I really do't understand the "more like a woman" thing. Having blonde hair doesn't make someone more of a woman.

LoudestCat14 · 03/05/2021 07:59

@TheSpottedZebra

She's 19!

Didn't she say that she hated her body as she wanted to be modelesque-tall, small breasts, slim hips. And she's not.

So maybe she feels enough now.or maybe that is the best way to rebel against what you said and who you were?

Or maybe she's like all the others. Maybe we all are?

This was my take on it initially. She's 19, she's allowed to change her style if she wants, and she's rebelling against the expectations of her being this grungy pop star who doesn't care about her looks.

But really it feels like just a posh lads' mag shoot.

Bluntness100 · 03/05/2021 07:59

I just don’t get threads like this. Women have choice. She is permitted to look like she wishes without judgment from other women. I’m sure it’s not her last look, she’s young and will probably go another route in future

But as women we have choice and we should support other women not rush to judge and put them down for their choices.

AccidentallyOnPurpose · 03/05/2021 08:05

I suspect she means more grown up, rather than a girl.
DumplingsAndStew · 03/05/2021 08:14

Surely taking control of her body, of who sees it, where when and how, is a common - and positive, important even - step for any woman.

I think some are picking up on the surgery, and "more of a woman" quotes because of the hot topic on this forum.

Surely feminism supports autonomy over her own body?

DumplingsAndStew · 03/05/2021 08:15

I think one photo shoot doesn't make her a sell out but says a lot I'm about the older women coming out to judge her. You're putting huge amounts of pressure on such a young woman, it can be such a challenging time accepting our bodies at that age to then be going through it with the intense scrutiny of the media on top is unimaginable. I just think it's a shame we have to have SO much conversation around the body of such a talented woman, it's pathetic and utterly depressing. We really aren't getting anywhere fast are we.

SimonedeBeauvoirscat · 03/05/2021 08:22

Disappointing on many levels. Not least because the pictures are badly executed. It just looks cheap and nasty.

On a more basic level, getting your kit off has never and will never be a cure for body confidence issues. It is a really toxic cycle to get into.

drpet49 · 03/05/2021 08:28

** Sadly predictable and a shame.

She always looks dead behind the eyes or stoned too.**

^This. Her eyes are very strange. I can tour my finger on it.

No it doesn’t and what a horrible judgemental post. Women are allowed to dress and present themselves as they please.

Why do women judge other women like this? She doesn’t need to fit any stereo type you and others deem she should.

Her life. Her body. Her choice. Respect it.

BilboBercow · 03/05/2021 08:30

Funnily enough in this interview she's talking about the lyrics to her new song where she says she's criticised for covering up and she's criticised for revealing anything.
She's a 19 year old girl who doesn't have a responsibility to be what people want her to be

AccidentallyOnPurpose · 03/05/2021 08:33

True, however a lot of women/teens realise that after they do it. The majority then settle somewhere in the middle, in a style they're comfortable with.

However they need the time and space to come to that conclusion themselves.

@userchange856 I just think it's a shame we have to have SO much conversation around the body of such a talented woman,

And prior we were simply talking about her work. When we see Angela Merkel dressed similarly when discussing the EU’s position on sharing vaccines with India, then we can think similarly.
