Has anyone seen the interview and pics?

In contrast to Billie's usual look of large clothes, avoiding a look of what is traditionally /media hyped as femine (tight or revealing clothes, lots of make up etc) Billie is pictured in retro underwear, blonde hair, flawless make up and says it makes her feel more like a woman.

Ffs, like our dcs needed another stereotypical woman posing in underwear... She cut such an unique no nonsense look and has been a breath of fresh air especially to. Girls t
And now there is this.

Change your style etc yes, but to basically mimic something that is such an age old entrenched style when it goes against what you previously stood for and what your fans looked up to. You for? It just seems such a shame for all. Those younger fans that saw her as saying it's okay to be different... Now it seems its not.

@Bimblybomeyelash

Of course women should have free choice to dress how they like. But we should examine what leads them to make those choices.
Definitely. However those discussions tend to go better when they're not targeted at a particular individual and dripping with disdain,disapproval,disappointment and even anger.
Chickychickydodah · 03/05/2021 09:56

I think she looks great!
She’s not the type of star to be showing her body off all the time in skimpy outfits .
Some “ stars” are walking round practically naked all the time and that’s a bad image for young ones.
It was tastefully done so good on you Billie .

FrippEnos · 03/05/2021 09:56

she is a grunge music star with a limited shelf life, she has had to change her image to stay relevant.

Its not s surprise that she chose this way to do it, but the bigger tell will what her music morphs into.

I don’t understand this thread at all. Personally I believe choosing how you want to appear to the world is one of the most empowering things you can do.
If she wants to wear a corset and get plastic surgery to feel happy within HERSELF what’s the problem?
We all choose what we want to look like on a daily basis. I find it rude and misogynistic to say she’s dressing for the menz. I like underwear, lip fillers and clothes that show of my legs. Couldn’t give a toss what men think of that because it’s how I want to dress and how I feel good 🤷‍♀️

toffeebutterpopcorn · 03/05/2021 10:00

She probably didn’t have complete choice - more likely spoke to a stylist who had been briefed by the editor. And as for the being blonde making her feel more like a woman - that’s way off message for her ‘young fans’ surely?

grapewine · 03/05/2021 10:01

@Wilsonwilson

I think she is creepy as fuck, she looks so out of it/dead eyed. Wtf is going on with her.
She's a teenager, and you're (I assume) a grown woman speaking about her this way on the Internet.

Honestly, have a word with yourself.

Roboticcarrot · 03/05/2021 10:04

@Totalbeach

Oh that's so sad.

I feel the same about Adele tbh.

Why Adele? Because she went from being obese to a being a healthy weight that will no doubt save her from a myriad of health problems in the future? Confused. Maintaining a healthy weight isn't just about appearances, its intertwined with health so I don't think it's fair to say its a shame they conformed to a beauty standard when it will actually enhance their life in many ways.

Nothing is surprising about this. Be yourself, let the music do the talking, but also go blonde and dress like every other woman in music. Yawn. Of course she can do what she wants, but how tedious.

grapewine · 03/05/2021 10:04

@MizMoonshine

What kind of anti feminist bullshit is this?

Billie was a literal child when she came to fame. She dressed the way she did because she didn't want to be sexualised and had a lot of body issues. As a child.

She created a look for herself which was very much on the extreme end of covered and really put herself in a box. She was known for this look and any deviation was going to be noted. When she left the house in a vest she was photographed and scrutinized endlessly.

She's taking ownership of her body and is discovering herself and her style. She will likely settle somewhere between the two eventually but it's not our place to judge.

Your daughters are your responsibility.

Billie Eilish owes you nothing.

👏👏👏
MizMoonshine · 03/05/2021 10:09

Also - directly from the Vogue article.
Here she is addressing it herself.
It stuns me how so many grown arse women can't get their head around this.

Unfortunately oversized jumpers and jeans don't sell records!

However, I was a large breasted teen like her and tbh I think it's good that she can also represent an image to young women that they don't have to 'hide' themselves away.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 03/05/2021 10:17

Vogue - I haven’t seen this cover but whenever I have seen a Vogue cover - it seems to be dead eyed anorexia crack addicted will jills who look like they leave the club at 6am to return to their filthy bed sit, munch a lettuce leaf, collapse with exhaustion and only surface layer when the sun has gone down.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 03/05/2021 10:19

That should say later, much later, probably midnight.

Thatisnotwhatisaid · 03/05/2021 10:21

Disappointing to say the least but predictable, the wholesome image rarely lasts.

She wasn't exactly typically wholesome either, was she?

@Totalbeach

Oh that's so sad.

I feel the same about Adele tbh.

As soon as it was announced that Adele was getting divorced, that was what was coming.
Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 03/05/2021 10:28

*Do you think people should have the same style throughout their lives? We should all continue to be the person we were at 13?

There's women in the Style boards who won't wear the same clothes season to season!!*

@DumplingsAndStew

You're sort of getting off track here. Of course people can change their style, but to go from completely covered, in baggy clothes, telling women/girls they don't need to conform to the half naked, "sexy" look to get places in life, to posing in underwear on the front cover of vogue is a bit ott. Is that her new style? Will she now be walking around the streets in corsets and fishnets?

And no, I don't believe it's to empower women. Even with the quote above, it's just another narrative to make us believe that women can feel empowered when they strip to their underwear. This is sheerly for the publicity, and they are marketing it in a way that's designed take people believe that it's all for empowerment. No, actually it's OK to keep your clothes on. You don't have to prove any points to anyone.

DoTheNextRightThing · 03/05/2021 10:29

Oh no! A woman doing what she wants and dressing how she wants! Whatever will we do?!

/sarcasm

ElphabaTWitch · 03/05/2021 10:37

Depends if she goes back to her ‘usual’ style though. Then she’s saying sometimes I like this, and sometimes I like that, and that’s showing our kids that you can change it and shake it up every now and then and that’s ok too. Doubt she’s going to start walking around like that.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 03/05/2021 10:37

I’m not convinced she is dressing how she wants - she has been in the industry long enough, so has stylists and managers advising her and promoting her image. It’s all very stylised looking and a bit boring actually. It’s up to her. Whatever she wears will be commentworthy - I can’t say that I’ve ever actually heard one of her songs.

It’s hardly the same as Sinead O’Connor shaving her hair off in response to her recoded company telling her that she will sell better if she promoted herself as ‘all girly’.

Reinventinganna · 03/05/2021 10:38

I like her. I like that she can be in baggy clothes one day and this the next. She powerful and talented in both. She’s doesn’t have to be one thing.
I remember being really into grunge, wearing grungy clothes and then going to a party in a 1950’s dress. Friends were shocked that I had a body under the baggy clothes and that I had stepped out of the box they had put me in. I felt powerful.

CarmelBeach · 03/05/2021 10:41

I found this depressing too.

MrsMiddleMother · 03/05/2021 10:42

I agree, disappointing.
