£50 per person for a BBQ!

Couldn’t believe what I was seeing! This is an advert by a restaurant I have never been to but I always think it sounds lovely. It gets good reviews. However I would be very surprised if many people pay £50 for a BBQ! There are meats, fish/seafood, veggie options, salads & Da Bara rolls. You can go back for seconds or thirds but even so it’s a lot of money. £100 for a couple & that doesn’t include drinks. What’s everyone’s thoughts?

Fools and their money......

If the food is really good and you can eat as much as you like, and pudding I think £50 is reasonable. Any music? If it could constitute a belly full of quality food and a good night out with friends I think £50 a head is fine.

It sounds like a Brazilian restaurant.

It will be a meat eater's paradise.

Most Brazilian restaurants are run like this; a fixed price barbeque where you eat as much as you like with a salad bar like a Harvester.

In my experience, the meat will be cooked to perfection and just keeps coming.

Look out for chicken hearts on a kebab stick; delicious.

I’ve just seen the menu - people will want to try all sorts - they will have a lot of over eating and waste. Lovely menu. 100% I would pay £50ph.
Not in Hertfordshire by any chance? We’d go.

Glorified all you can eat buffet & lots of people touching the same food? Swerve that

Am I missing something? Who cares. Don't want to pay it don't go. If the restaurant doesn't get enough people they'll stop. I don't understand why people spend £300 on a pair of trainers but hey their money, their choice.

That's the price that I would expect to pay for a celebration meal, infact a local Hotel popular with Weddings and Birthday Celebrations charge more than that for a BBQ per person,, but it's not just the food, it's the Upkeep of the Beautiful Lawns and Gardens, and the Grade 2 Listed Manor house venue that you are paying for. Drinks are not cheap either, Basic House wine starts from £18 a Bottle, and Fizz from £27, but they do this to not only make more proffit, but to somewhat discourage people from Drnken Rowdy behaviour and causing damage by doing so.

You can easily spend £80 for a decent braai including the drink, that’ll include full Fish Braai, 6 8oz Fillet Steaks salad bar, homemade bread, antipasti starter and chocolate fudge pot desserts fit 6 people.

This kind of thread is always polarising (and slightly amusing).

You get posters who cannot afford/would never pay that for a meal out anyway, and those who feel that paying less than £50 for a meal does not justify their time.

It is expensive, as part of the cost of a meal is the chef’s skill. There is minimal skill in this menu. On the other hand, good quality food (especially meat) is expensive, and they have to budget for people who will try and get ‘value for money’ by eating as much as they can.

I would have thought £35 would be a better price, as they will make a lot on drinks abs service anyway. But I guess it is a business decision. They will pick a price point to maximise their income abs, if they are full or nearly full, it is the right price.
