£50 per person for a BBQ!

Couldn’t believe what I was seeing! This is an advert by a restaurant I have never been to but I always think it sounds lovely. It gets good reviews. However I would be very surprised if many people pay £50 for a BBQ! There are meats, fish/seafood, veggie options, salads & Da Bara rolls. You can go back for seconds or thirds but even so it’s a lot of money. £100 for a couple & that doesn’t include drinks. What’s everyone’s thoughts?

I think it’s fine, especially if there is seafood included.

Lovemusic33 · 28/04/2021 13:32

I guess you would pay £50 each for a 3 course meal in a restaurant? A BBQ isn’t much different if it’s done to a high standard?

dotdashdashdash · 28/04/2021 13:35

@sashh

OMG is it fillet steak with fillet steak on the side?
Probably.

The BBQ places near us are all you can eat quality meats, fresh cooked and served at your table, including King prawns, fillet steak, lamb leg etc. I personally think it's good value, but I don't eat the whole day before I go and I plan no "actvities" for after as they have to roll me out of the restaurant (yeah, I'm greedy). We only go once in a blue moon though (less than once a year).

I wouldn't, but as PP said, I'm not the target audience, because I'm not interested in spending that kind of money on any type of food, all in one meal. I'm completely satisfied with cheaper fare, and I couldn't enjoy something if I was mentally grumbling over how much it cost, the whole time.

Nightbear · 28/04/2021 13:41

I wouldn’t choose it as a veggie, but as a meat eater I think it sounds reasonable. It’s a restaurant meal so you’re paying for them cooking and serving the food. It’s also about the quality of the meat. You could easily pay £40 for a good steak in a restaurant.

I’m thinking somewhere like Hidden Hut too. Just down the road from us and their Feast Nights are like gold dust now, particularly this year!

Tambora · 28/04/2021 14:16

£100 for a barbecue meal for two people? Good grief. You'd have to have more money than sense to pay that.

Mangomoonlight · 28/04/2021 14:19

If you compare it to the hotel based, high end brunches (free flow alcoholic drinks are an extra) you get in places like Dubai, HK, Abu Dhabi, etc then it’s reasonable.
With very limited travel opportunity outside of the UK this year, the demand is most certainly here. Particularly in Cornwall.

apooagnuandyou · 28/04/2021 14:23

Barbecuing is a cooking method not a type of food.

Seems like some posters have extremely low standards when it comes to their idea of a "bbq".

I’ve given up trying to get a ticket - it seems impossible to be quick enough!
But I make for it by going for lunch as often as I can Grin

( like yesterday, and then I stopped off at the new Da Bara cafe on the way home - I feel like maybe I AM the target audience for this BBQ!)

It's very much a type of food, if you are doing it properly!

what type of food is "bbq food" and not food that can be cooked on bbq among other methods of cooking? Confused

swimlittlefishy · 28/04/2021 14:35

Is that a serious question?

Desmondo2021 · 28/04/2021 14:37

£50 pp in a nice environment for a good range of meat with beautiful sides and salads PLUS a pudding station. Hell yeah, I'd be all over it, sounds lovely.

We never come away from our favourite restaurant having spent less than £120 anyway.

dotdashdashdash · 28/04/2021 14:42

Barbecuing is a cooking method not a type of food.

It can be both a type of cooking and a type of cuisine.

In the American south, BBQ is a cuisine of it's own and the thing it is cooked on is a grill - the BBQ is the food, not the style of cooking. In South America it is the same. It is to do with the preparation of the food as well as the cooking method, in a similar way to tandoori.

please do enlight us...
swimlittlefishy · 28/04/2021 16:18

Really amazed I should have to. Do you know nothing about food or other countries? Surely everyone knows what barbeque means regarding certain parts of America?

Lifeisnotadressrehearsal7 · 28/04/2021 16:44

It’s not 3 courses

'Barbecuing' is a verb and is therefore the cooking method. HTH

I'm not google, petal. If you want to find out where you went wrong try searching and reading. Or just stay in ignorance.

It doesn't. There are different meanings to bbqing. In the UK, it's generally a cooking method because a BBQ (noun) is means an outdoor grill. In other cultures bbq is a cuisine. Like you get Chinese food but different styles such as szechzuan - distinct cuisine. It would be perfectly reasonable to say you are szechuaning your steak but it wouldn't tell me the cooking method you are using.

That sounds delicious!! I'm really surprised if that's the type of food being offered you were shocked at the price. I honestly don't think many people would object to paying £50 to be able to eat such lovely sounding food in a nice restaurant atmosphere.
