£50 per person for a BBQ!

Couldn’t believe what I was seeing! This is an advert by a restaurant I have never been to but I always think it sounds lovely. It gets good reviews. However I would be very surprised if many people pay £50 for a BBQ! There are meats, fish/seafood, veggie options, salads & Da Bara rolls. You can go back for seconds or thirds but even so it’s a lot of money. £100 for a couple & that doesn’t include drinks. What’s everyone’s thoughts?

Depends on the quality, type of seafood and also where it is. Da Bara (unless they’ve gone UK wide now is in Cornwall)
There are some beautiful spots down here that I would be more than happy to sit and enjoy a delicious, lazy bbq, with a sea view and the children with the grandparents! If it is Cornwall, demand is sky high here for the summer so that will be factored into the cost too. For a treat, it would be worth it!

£20-30 max

delilahbucket · 28/04/2021 12:21

I can see what they are trying to achieve, £50 for three courses isn't bad if it's good quality, but if you aren't likely to be eating three courses then it's really steep.

I don't know about anyone else but I would be very dubious of the meat quality of an all you can eat bbq if the price was 20 quid.
theemmadilemma · 28/04/2021 12:23

We eat out a lot, and happily pay more for good food, but £50 is a bit much. Maybe if it included softdrinks, or a limited number of drinks.

I can see myself paying up to around £35 for what's described.

Me too. Great if you enjoy eating cheap shit.

FedNlanders · 28/04/2021 12:30

No way. Rather have a takeaway and keep the change

FedNlanders · 28/04/2021 12:31

£20-30 max
I wouldn't even want to pay 20 lol
Happylittlethoughts · 28/04/2021 12:32

£50 for a "Main" 🤣🤣🤣sone folk line up to give their money away !!

HeadNorth · 28/04/2021 12:32

Too expensive for me as a veggie with a small appetite. I could only eat 2 courses and so I would be subsidising diners who would wire into the seafood and meat.

ThursdayLastWeek · 28/04/2021 12:38

I wonder if that is near me, Da Bara is a bakery local to me.

The Hidden Hut?
Nancarrow farm?

It’s deffo about the ambiance etc too.
More often than not it’s impossible to get a ticket to these things so someone must be willing to pay it.

lurker101 · 28/04/2021 12:39

I think @Mangomoonlight has probably cracked it - if it’s a BBQ in Cornwall (with lots of holiday makers etc) it will sell out exceptionally quickly you would think, have a nice BBQ, no hassle and possibly some scenic views. I would love that - still want the name OP.

We rent a Seaview cottage in Cornwall for almost what one bbq at this place would cost my family lol
MiddleClassProblem · 28/04/2021 12:49

@Lifeisnotadressrehearsal7 can you post the menu cutting out the restaurant name/details if you’re worried about it being outing?

That's great, but it doesn't mean that the price of the BBQ is too high. The 2 things are not in any way comparable.

and? Confused

mam0918 · 28/04/2021 13:00

so its a buffet essentually but cooked on a BBQ grill, is that even currently allowed.

In answer to the cost question I would pay max of £20 as thats what a local buffet use to charge on the days they added custom grilled meats/steaks as an option to there usual buffet (which was £12) which I imagine is similar thing.

dropthedeadhorse · 28/04/2021 13:01

Fancy relaxing restaurant with great ambiance and music. Priced out the riff raff and children. Excellent quality food. As much as you can eat. Yes I’d pay it on a special occasion.

JustMeAndWheatley · 28/04/2021 13:09

For a nice location with good quality meat and fish then £50 is not unreasonable.

I wouldn’t want to eat meat somewhere that offers all you can eat for £20.

stackemhigh · 28/04/2021 13:12

I thought a relative or friend was charging guests £50 each!

I wouldn't pay that much, when you can go to a rodizio for half of that price.

Libertynan · 28/04/2021 13:14

The title led me to think it was going to a CF inviting friends and family round for a barbeque and then charging £50 per head.

I am slightly disappointed Wink

I wouldn't pay £50 unless it included unlimited wine/beer. There is absolutely no way I would eat my money's worth - especially as I am a vegan.

amusedbush · 28/04/2021 13:15

That would be great for DH but I can't eat a huge amount in one sitting so I'd be full after one plateful. £50 wasted on me.

thought that too Grin

I would at least expect the drinks to be included then.

Madcats · 28/04/2021 13:20

Hey @Lifeisnotadressrehearsal7 can you post a link to the restaurant? I think we're probably having a barbie at some point over the weekend and I am always on the lookout for new recipes.

I'd not heard of Da Bara but see they are down in St Mawes; location (and visitors with loads of money) probably adds at least a tenner to the price.

£12-£15 for a starter, £20-£29 for a main and £10 for pudding seems fairly standard pricing for a gastropub (and I suspect people would be greedy at a barbie).

QueenOfPain · 28/04/2021 13:30

Is it Brazilian BBQ? Like Fazenda?

£50 is a lot but it’s also high quality food, beautiful salad bar, very attentive service and a lovely evening.
