What is the most beautiful surname you have heard?

I've been researching my family tree and there are a lot of surnames, mostly usual Irish, Scottish but some interesting ones and it got me thinking about surnames in general.

I always thought Italian surnames are very beautiful, Baccino, Santangelli.

I love ones that are simple such as Flower, Beach and Ocean too.

So, what's the most beautiful one you have ever heard?

bought our first house from a Mr and Mrs Wildgoose.

Mrs Wildgoose was my teacher. Her daughter was in my class too.

My sister in laws maiden name was butterfield which is lovely in itself.

When on holiday years ago the hotel staff called her Miss butterfly which is so cute

So many lovely names!
I like Trevellion and Trewartha, but Hellmeister is rather special!

TrixieMixie · 04/04/2021 17:28

A friend of a friend is called Fleetneedle which I think is cool.

I agree with OP about Italian names. I was always amused on the Sopranos when the murderous mobsters had names such as Belfiori or Moltisanti.
Hard to be a tough guy when your surname is Pretty Flowers or Many Saints. .

@CricketClub

Devine! The only person I know with this name is lovely!
I was bullied by a Devine at a job I had in my twenties and ended up leaving company, so the name still chills me to the bone today. Sad, because it is, as you say, a lovely name. I think she should probably have been called DeVil instead 🤣

Years ago at my friend’s children’s school, there was a Flowers and Honey on the staff. Lovely names.

GingerGurl · 04/04/2021 17:34

Flowers is very pretty. I used to be Veale 😖

Lillibee4 · 04/04/2021 17:37

I used to work with a girl called Danny Cool who had a brother called Johnny Cool

Mummyyyyyyyyyy · 04/04/2021 17:39

Sorrentino was the surname of a lady I worked with, it just tripped off the tongue.

GingerGurl · 04/04/2021 17:41

And through work I've know of a Crapper and a Minion. Their kids will learn to fight young !

@damekindness

I've always wanted to marry the BBC journalist Damian Grammaticas just so that I can become Mrs Grammaticas
I love his name too, sounds so dramatic! Tomasz schafernaker is also one of my favourites

Urgh NO. Anything like Trevelyan brings me out in hives...but I'm Irish so obviously!! We are still recovering from An Gorta Mòr. Ireland is unique among the famine hit countries in the world in that we have not ever recovered, so Welsh names like the horror that is Trevelyan is just....😭🤮
Pet8 · 04/04/2021 17:58

I know a few of the surnames that have cropped up in this thread - Baccino, Honeyball, Love, Devine, Valentine and even Peppercorn.
Knew 2 women who gave up their beautiful surnames (don't want to out them by saying) for the married names Peacock and Cruikshank.
Apologies to anyone with these names but Drinkwater, Snodgrass, Hancock, Cox, Higginbottom etc make me giggle like a 10 year old.

MrsBrightside10 · 04/04/2021 17:59

When my youngest daughter was little (she’s 24 now!) we named her tooth fairy Louella Rainbowtree. 😊

RosesAndHellebores · 04/04/2021 18:00

A boy in my class was called Butterworth
Collingridge was also rather cool.

Pet8 · 04/04/2021 18:00

@PhoenixandtheRug yes, I shivered too at Treveylyn.

kimmsutt · 04/04/2021 18:01

I know a ... Flowers, ... Sweetlove and a ... Loveday.

NameChangeExtraordinaire · 04/04/2021 18:01

I came on here to say Midwinter but I see it's already mentioned. I'm in a group on Facebook where there is someone who posts called Piers Midwinter. It's such a beautiful, medieval-sounding name

Pet8 · 04/04/2021 18:02

*Trevelyan even
